there was a lot of other things happening too, guy asks the game group if they want to do a mini tournament. I said no because at that moment i was teaching a new 40k player with a new dark eldar army how to play/use dark eldar more effectivly. Other sheeple were quiet untill i spoke up, then they spoke up for themselves and agreed that we just like freeplay to choose our point levels and our opponents. Guy then tells us from now on both warhammer nights each week are going to be campaign only. Campaigners get table priority and the "douchebags" that dont play it get to fight over tables with the heroclix crowd. Tells us he cleared it with the owner so dont ask him about it... Guy doesnt work there, is there everyday because his wife drops him off there like daycare and picks him up at closing. This guy really dislikes me for taking the game"too lightly", challenging his non existing authority, and best reason so far because im a BRONY(his words) The last one makes me laugh, love and tolerate eh?

Raise this with the owner, express your ire with this guy's attitude at the same time.

Do it in an adult, calm and non-insulting manner, you will gain more support from the owner this way.

Include reference to trying to teach another new player the game and the attitude of this manchild putting that guy off/coming across as bullying.

Reference that tutorial games for new players should not play second fiddle to a tournament that is unofficial and hostile to newcomers.

Remind him that Newcomer = Sales...

I'd say that isn't the sort of persistent annoyance that this thread is about, but more a one-off situation that needs handling carefully.

Yeah I should have thrown in an end rant. Or do it differently. Carry on.

I'm not sure if I should...

Hmmm...

I've got to say people who decide to make a wargame but don't really care about others opinions or are downright rude and shallow minded (anybody remember Diognesethedog's short-lived time here? Yeah. That guy.)

It's also probably just a pet peeve of mine, but people who develop a game without any sort of reality check; those who refuse to show a product because it's 'revolutionary' and they're afraid people will steal it (I've tried to explain they have copyright over all of their work, including the games, but to no avail); those who without any product to show ask for the classic 'design team to work on little to no wage'; the people who haven't even playtested the game more than once, and get incredibly defensive about any of their decisions.

Now I feel like I've hurt somebody...

No, they don't. As was established waaaaay back in the early D&D days, you can't copyright a rules system, only the words in which it is expressed. So if someone thinks they really genuinely do have a revolutionary and utterly original system that will forever alter the landscape of wargames, then they probably should keep quiet about it until they've developed it to a publishable product.

However, it's also fair to say that, if someone thinks they really genuinely do have a revolutionary and utterly original system that will forever alter the landscape of wargames, they're wrong.

Yeah, I guess. However, publishing does put a stamp on it to state it existed at this time, which is useful if you really need to keep it secure. To be honest though, you shouldn't tackle a ruleset for the public without testing and contact with them unless you have an incredible pool of experience, and even then you need focus groups and beta runs. Listing out a few mechanics or the theme without context really isn't contact.

Ulimately: Don't ever listen to me, lest your face melt.

people with either unpainted or poorly painted armnies who don't just roll the dice but instead launch them across the table at your painted minis. Too many times I've had to ask people to chill out with their dice when they're knocking stuff over.

Similar to that, the guys who insist on scraping their models against yours when their base-to-mini size makes true b2b contact impractical.

Basically people who don't respect the time it has taken to build and paint an army because they have never done so themselves.

*bursts though room with axe* HEEEAAARRRS JHONNY!!!

I don't have really too much peeves in real life, I get more peeves when on the internet and people get new releases for their army then complain about how it has been all "ultranerfed" and how the army is rubbish now when the new releases have been out for less than 24 hours, I mean c'mon talking about not giving it a chance... I mean I went on to the General 40k discussion here to see what the new Tau were like, obviously silly me forgot that people like to see instantly a safe "autowin" with spammable units and all I see are a few people (note: I did not say all people just a few) crying that their rail guns are S8 and how they are useless now... S8? USELESS? I play CSM and Orks... S8 is amazing and you also have AP1 and (from what I have heard) TWIN-LINKED? I use a Forgefiend regularly as well as Deffkoptas and S8 takes down MC and majority of vehicles, also you get extra shooting buffs from other units, etc... HOW CAN YOU COMPLAIN? then I guess after a month people will be saying that Tau rock the shores, which leaves me to another peeve... Hypocrisy, I mean it keeps happening when a new book is released, because from what I see a few people are not seeing "draigowing-cron-air-of-awesomeness-autowin" and cry every time they see balanced books (which to me is great I love the way they have balanced everything, one thing that the Games Developers in GW got right) then after a month they think its a decent dex... but still not Draigowing 5th ed... Newsflash: the codexes are not going to have an "instawin" button anymore and you should be grateful that we will be seeing more variety in lists now instead of the same mirrored lists like in 5th ed.

*Deep breaths*

/Rant over

As long as it looks like they've done some research or word the question correctly, they're not entitled are they?
I see far more of the "google it" type posts to poorly worded or zero research posts than I have the latter.

I'm fairly easy-going when it comes to asshats permeating my LGS, if only because the 40k crowd is sparse from time to time. But generally everyone acts respectfully and knows how to do laundry and utilize soap and water.

Although, my LGS plays host to a wide variety of gamers, which tends to be hectic, but cool mostly. For a while there was a conflict with 40k/Fantasy/Warmahordes folks and the Yu-gi-oh guys. Usually the tabletop guys would be adults, guys who I'd known most of my child and young adult life, and the random newcomers, but by and large, a cool lot. The Yu-gi-oh players on the otherhand? Not so much.

The smell was pretty impressive too. Given that the room we played in was no very well ventilated and on the small side, it got pretty disgusting. The range of players was certainly different and in some cases, creepy. But it's a card game so...whatever. The attitudes, man, all of these guys were some varying degree of asshat. It was shocking really, watching some ten-year old snot tell a friend of mine to take his "Gay little toys and GTFO.". I'll never forget that.

So yeah, card players. They've ruined two separate venues I've played at, using the same tactics every time. Second most annoying on my list would probably be a WAAC player(s). I get wanting to win, everyone wants to win, but that crap just takes it to a level that can't be understood.

I strongly dislike the card players at my local venue(s).... Thankfully at my current FLGS, the store owner regulates them to the basement, so unless gaming gets hectic up on the main floor, they're all downstairs, out of sight and out of mind.

Unfortunately they're also where all the terrain is stored... You walk down the stairs, and they just look at you like you've broken into their home, a few have been friendly enough to give me a hand when I try to carry three tubs of terrain and a GW grass mat up the steps, but the majority of them are annoying little stench-fiends. They're loud, they smell, and they're offensive in site and language they use. Granted, when around friends, I'll curse like a sailor, but when I'm in public where people take their kids (my FLGS is also a model car, train, and remote controlled car shop and is the majority of his business), my language would rival a saint for purity of word. Yet, I hear these kids telling each other to go feth themselves because they're cheats, or because they're gay, or w/e slur of the week is hip with the kids.

I've yet to play there during the summers, but I'm not looking forward to it... It was bad in the winter when the heaters down there would be on, and the warmth coupled with the thirty bodies down in an horribly ventilated area just makes for a gagging level of stank. The worst was a few weeks ago during a Friday Night Magic Tournament when one of the guys was leaning back and got his hair caught next to the heating element of this old heater... Smell of burning hair, failure, and card gamer stank... I asked the store owner for his spray mask before I went and grabbed terrain...

I understand this well. Once a group of my friends and I went in on a sunday to our FLGS when yu-gi-oh was playing, and played some 40k. We have designated tables in the back for 40k and the are supposed to be used only for that. As we play, the card crowd swelled until all their tables were full and they sat there glaring at us for using the 40k tables. Then when the dude (teen) in charge came in we had to listen to him go on and on bragging to his card friends about how he is in charge and how he owned that place, little did he know I am in charge of the 40k. Yeah, a room filled with a bunch of asshats and their flocks of sheep. we had multiple problems with them.

Not to mention my best friend and I letting slip we play yu-gi-oh. We had a kid up are asses for games for weeks. I'm playing 40k and he is asking nonstop for a match (yugioh) and he's complaining about how long 40k takes because I said "after my game, maybe.". Next week, my friend and I are playing naruto ccg and he is up our ass again wanting to play one of us. He pissed me off when he says (about naruto ccg) "This game sucks. It takes way too long. You should stop and play a game of yugioh with me." I felt like going " you.". Since then I haven't wanted to play card games with anyone other than my friends; too much aggravation.

End rant.

And don't let me forget the magic players that say that they feel bad for curbstomping new players at a tournament. Then in the next sentence laugh about how weak their decks, and most powerful cards, were. To then go on and mention how rare and expensive their deck is. Putting down...a new player!...and ego-boosting in the same sentence; I couldn't believe it.

I share the annoyance that many people feel against players of certain CCG's that are popular with the younger set. However, it is important to remember that in many cases, those little munchkin-ankle-biters are the reason that you even have a FLGS.

There are a few rarefied stores that can sustain themselves all or mostly on miniature wargames, but ask most FLGS owners and they will usually tell you that they make as much or more money on CCG's than Wargames.

Oh we know, the problem is that at my FLGS, they only tend to make up the majority of purchases within the few weeks of a MtG release. Buying large amounts of cards during a prelease, and on release night. Other than that, they rarely buy stuff... I played ringer one night when I was just getting Malifaux going (no one had shown up), they were 1 short of a tournament because they had five people not want to play in the tournament for some reason unrelated to the cash needed to pony up for the tournament...

I know MtG players buy a lot, but at my FLGS we don't have to deal with those players. The yugioh and pokemon players barely buy enough to keep the store from shutting them down, and for the most part don't run tournaments to help support the store. When those games players finally started to buy more it was when the #s dwindled and only diehards were left. But I am still skeptical of both games.

The store pretty much told me that the miniature crowd and MtG was where they made the money for games. And miniatures were there 1st.
