It struck me as mildly similar to this.

IcarusDA wrote:$80 for an E-book license that isn't even physical property? Call the police son, you're being mugged. You're better off getting the codex on E-bay and dealing with the shipping. And somehow, I would be a thief if I were to torrent it.

You know, this seems like those of us who have flgs discounts could hook our friends in Oz up. I know that I can get a hardback rulebook shipped to Australia for a grand total of about $63.60. not great, still more than $50, but what does GW sell the physical books for?

Most flgs here in Aus typically offer 20% off RRP, some do 25% on larger orders and specials sometimes attract 30% off. I've been buying through a friend in the US since 2007 and prior to that it was via companies in the UK/US (whoever had the best deals/rates at the time).
I've found people in the US to be some of the most awesome and helpful folks around when it comes to helping out. Not only are they great with their asking prices, but very obliging/happy to ship outside the US down here. None of my armies would be anywhere NEAR the size they are without the bloody sensational help i've received from them.
With rare items, one lad in Canada sold me his mint Phantom Titan for the original selling price ($180USD). I've kept his details so one day (when the full army is painted and set up on display) I can send him a photo of his "baby", now a fully fledged Warlock Titan flanked by the rest of the Warhost haha.

$124 AUD, or $127.5 USD.
Equivalently, a saving of 50.22%.

You do realize you can order directly from stores in the US with their store discount from Australia, right?
There's absolutely nothing stopping you from doing so. You don't need to 'do it through friends', even if it is nice you've found people over there to ship to you. US stores generally charge bugger all shipping as well.

The reason I do it via my mate is that he gives me 31.5% off the RRP there. He has his own trade account. You may also note that I did say I used to do it the way you're suggesting prior to going via my mate - the very prior sentence mentions this.

You've also got to consider what may happen after the 15th of June with the new trade agreements - now that retailers are being told if they're caught shipping to Aus they may be cut from supply.

According to the retailers that have spoken about it - nothing. It's the same agreement they've always had.
The reason we get stuff cheap from websites with carts is because they're stripped from boxes, thus second hand. And for all GW wants to, they cannot control second hand sales.

I didn't mention anything about bitz sales - which are also being targeted in the latest update. I know alot of retailers in the US go through either alliance or e-figures and neither company will knowingly want product being sold against the retailer/distributor policies for fear of being cut off - This is clearly detailed in section C of the retailer policy;
"North American Retailers are only authorized to resell GAMES WORKSHOP products domestically in their respective countries of origin. Accordingly, United States Retailers are prohibited from exporting GAMES WORKSHOP products for purposes resale to Consumers located outside of the United States. Similarly, Canadian Retailers are prohibited from exporting GAMES WORKSHOP products for purposes resale to Consumers located outside of Canada. Foreign sales of GAMES WORKSHOP products by Retailers can be disruptive to GAMES WORKSHOP’S vertical distribution networks in other countries."
Note; Prior to this updated agreement, this was not the case for retailers, only distributors were prohibited from selling outside of the Northern US.

Sure, people will still be able to get goods via some ebay retailers. As noted on here and other forums, quite a few of the known Bitz sellers have decided to stop selling GW products entirely. Some discounted eBay sellers will still continue to sell, however GW will try to crack down on the supply channels they are getting stock from. I would conservatively say, expect a decrease in the number of available options we as Australians can purchase from in the US. Simply put, I wouldn't say "nothing" is the correct term, as there will be an overall noticeable reduction in availability. GW loves fear tactics and uses them whenever opportunity presents. Just look at what happened with Wayland Games in the UK - arguably the largest retail distributor in the world of GW product and despite their best intentions weren't able to continue their "Rest of World" orders.
