I'm writing a story called the Emperor's will. Its about a ww2 german inspired IG army that is going fight the orks. for immersivenss, I wrote the story in german( you can put the story into bing translator for the american speakers)

i cringe at this german attempt...sorry mate... but stick to your language...the story doesn´t just get better and more intense just by changing the language...

syntax and grammar errors galore all over...

I'd rather see it in English mate. If you're running it through a German translator to get these up, why not post in English and say "For the added awesome benefit of reading in the German tongue, use this translator."

It's a cool idea, and I see where you're coming from, but if VvD reckons you're not hitting the mark, and he's listed as German, then you shold stick to expressing yourself in your native tongue so that the message you're trying to get across isn't lost in translation - literally!

No just no, we do not need to read about yet another semi nazi army in space. Just drop the idea and thank me later when you realize how a horrid idea it was.

I was rather hesitant to mention that fact... good to read that others think the same!

That's amazingly incorrect.

Whilst some officers and members of high command were party members (essentially via necessity) the vast majority of the Wermacht was apolitical. The Hitler salute was only adopted after the July bomb plot in 1944. Hell the vast majority of Germans were not party members.

As a second generation German American whose family came over after WW2 I take crazy amounts of offence to this statement. My family served in the arm forces of Germany. And some were in fact affiliated with the political party in power called the Nazis. More importantly some were not and executed for speaking out, while others jumped ship swam to a French fishing boat got arrested by the allies and taken to America where the decided to stay and be free. Making blanket statements like all Germans in the German army were Nazis is like saying all soldiers in the US army are Republicans. Now if you made the statement all soldiers in the SS were Nazis you would be correct like my great grand uncle who died during the siege of Stalingrad. My great grandfather served on a U boat and wasn’t a Nazi and didn’t agree with his brothers or his father’s choices. My great grandfather was a Kriegsmarine and a German man, these two things do not make him a Nazi they do make him a sailor and a proud German. Just like I grew up to be a proud German American just like my brother, two cousins, one uncle and most importantly a grandfather, who served with distinction in the American armed forces.

While I can't deny that the Germans were definitely in the wrong in WW2 many soldiers in the Third Reich were indeed not adherents to the Nazi cause. Hell look at Erwin Rommel, aka "The Desert Fox". During his campaign against the allies in North Africa he was seen as a professional and respectful enemy in which he was honorable in the sense that he ignored orders to kill Jews, civilians and captured POW's; many of which were treated humanely. Heck, he was one of the people involved in one of the many assassination plots against Hitler, for which he was caught and forced to commit suicide to protect his family from persecution. He even specifically asked that at his funeral that his body be free from any Nazi paraphernalia but obviously the Nazi were sure that he was festooned with swastikas. If anything it was his loyalty to Germany that was his downfall and despite him fighting for the wrong cause you could at least see that there were some like him that weren't delusional. Unfortunately honour and duty to the motherland can lead to many decent people fighting on the wrong side.

I am a ok with being ignored by you a clear racist. Btw being Norwegian I am sure you’re aware at least of the SS Viking this Nazi division was raised in your motherland. My great grandfather was a soldier and fought for the fatherland not for the party that held power, up until he AWoled. This is just like my brother who I support who fights for his country and not for the political powers running it. Bring this full circle I doubt every Imperial guardsmen agrees with the planetary governor or high lord that sends him off to war. He does it because of duty as a soldier. I quote the famous WW2 army saying of a soldiers duty “It is not to question why, it is to do and die.”

That's actually from the 'Charge of the Light Brigade' poem written by Lord Alfred Tennyson.
As it is German armies are part of the cliché of most fan fiction stories in 40k because it is an easy way to make things grimdark.
I'd suggest choosing a different culture to base it off of mostly because that would be interesting.
As for the whole written in German part...
Well VvD has said your grammar is poor and i am inclined to trust him. I also don't think it adds impressiveness, maybe the odd word or two as the appropriate character struggles to express something in his second language that he only knows in his first language but not the entire thing...

Yeah there's nothing wrong with once in a while when discussing something having a character go 'the...the how do you say [le french/ die german/ze russian/thing word]' to show that he just can't get the word out in the common tongue of the area, but not a whole story.

On another note, apparently google translate hasn't got something for 'the' in russian. Or else mine is just acting up. So I went with ze. Sue me.
