Do you do a bulk of your playing on the internet at the online discounters or in your home?
If you expect to spend hours playing on someone's tables in a
FLGS, but then not buy anything from them, how do you expect them to pay the rent on the space you use without you being a customer? "Oh I bought a snickers bar once, that covers the 40 hours I played there this month" doesn't usually mesh.
Having people playing and having a good time is free advertising to anyone who happens to see. Anyway, if free tables where that big of a deal, regardless of renting the space, they wouldn't be a thing. If a store offers free tables then its not something you should have to pay for. Hence the "free" part.
Thats another good point, having a group of people in a
GW store playing (regardless of where they bought the minis) is good for
GW's business. Aside from the saying that nothing attracts a crowd like a crowd, when I worked at
GW I always found it easier to sell starter sets to new to the hobby people when the store was full of people playing. It shows newbies that there is a community of people for them to play with
