UK law dose it a lot. The basic concept of civil law in the UK is to return the parties to the point as if the action had not happened. We work on the basis of covering the costs to the wronged not a punitive system (like the US, which is why they have the massive payouts we don't).

Therefore when somone dies as the result of the actions of another the surviving people will only recive the amount that the person could have contributed to the other, plus some other costs (such as funeral expenses and probably some costs for things like visiting them in hospital).

As an example, in the US the death of a chiled through neglegence will genraly result in a huge payout (if you have the right lawyer) as there is huge emotional damages. In the UK it is normaly tiny, as the child was not contributing financialy to the family. It's not normaly socioty, but the direct losses to the family that are worked out.

Indeed, it's in good taste to mock a man whose wife has just died.

When you see death up close and personal few times in combat it gives you a new outlook....then later to find out your stage 3 in a bad sort of way with cancer death becomes "Death" in a buddy way

SO eventually when Death comes and get me. I hope he had to get someone that was 30 stones before me. I even provide a lunch and a beer....because it'll be one long drawn out fight because I am not going peacefully....unless its Death from Supernatural.....then I know I get a slice of pizza and glass of sweet tea before I go peacefully....I would even ask for an autograpth

It also took 45 minutes before the crews got to the scene it seems if I remember right. Thats not going to help survival chances.

Yeah... I'd have to say when you need to call in the military to airlift you to a hospital, it's a bit bogus to be placing all of the blame on the Dr's shoulders.
