I used to use the excellent Gale Force 9 Hobby Glue - Which went off super quick like sub - 10seconds....

I cannot get it anymore, so I was told by my FLGS that P3 Formula Super Glue is just as good.

IT ISN'T!!!!! It's water, it takes over 2 mins to set.

So any recommendations? Because I am sick of crap Super Glue!!!!

I've always had good results from loctite brand glues.

As a side note, water (or rather moisture) accelerates superglues drying, but would make it weaker/more brittle.

The cheap crap i get from poundland does the job for me - also I find that if you put a tiny blob of GS on one side of the bond and superglue on the other and then squeeze em together i get an almost instant hard wearing bond.

Can you get BSI cyanoacrylates (Bob Smith Industries) in the UK. They make multiple consistencies -water thin, medium, thick- in rubberized and un-rubberized formulations and all their glues are marked with an estimated set time.
http://www.bsi-inc.com/Pages/hobby/ca.html

I have two (or more) cyanoacrylates of different types at my desk at all times as well as a plastic solvent glue so as to always have the right tool for the job.

As to the thin P3, are you possibly using too much? My experience with watery superglues is that if you use just a tiny bit it sets almost instantly. However, watery glues are only good when the surfaces are very well matched. If the surfaces aren't well mated then you need a thick or gel superglue.

Thanks guys lots of good pointers.

I usually put 3-4 drops of Glue in a Disposable plastic spoon, I then use a paper clip or piece of wire to add tiny amounts of glue.

This is usually because I work on 15mm Models 80% of the time.

Just a bit disappointed with the P3 stuff, I will give it another go, and use micro amounts and see if that makes a difference.

Loctite but at the moment, I am using Wickes own brand which is surprisingly effective.

I've had great success with the LEPAGEĀ® ULTRA GEL SUPER GLUE. It's made in Ireland so should be available where you are. it isn't cheap and you don't get a lot in the bottle but the applicator is fantastic and the results are amazing.

I swear by the Loctite brush on super glue. That stuff is ace. The real trick though is actually finding the damn stuff because it seems like nobody around here actually carries it.

I'm a fan of the 'control' applicator from loctite, have sene most of their glues in it, where you squeeze the sides to control how much you get at the nozzle, works upside down with this, so glueing at any angle is a breeze.
Beleve the rubberized flexy grip one has black and grey packaging, while regular gel glue has blue and grey.
For liquid superglue I find that basically any brand is good, the cheap brands where you get lots of 1g tubes in a pack suit me, I find that watery superglue always glues its own lid on after a few uses, so the 1g tubes dont waste too much if i can't get it open.

I love my BSI glue. I get the purple stuff (Insta-cure gap filling) for everything from metal to finecast. Sets in 5 seconds or less on plastic and it has a very handy narrow dispensor end. http://www.bsi-inc.com/Pages/hobby/ca.html

I just used any cheap super glue in wilkinsons or pound land really and it worked fine, although I have to get some more real soon because someone (dont know how the glue got like this in the first place) left a nail in the pot and is now stuck in it like excaliber.

Wargamestore.com still have gale force nine glues on their website? Or is unavailability not the issue?

I've always found the gale force the best followed closely by the loctite range depending on use

I've actually bought two bottles of Gale Force 9 from Ebay...

I've just used Gale Force 9 for like 2-3 years, and not all super glue is the same.

An interesting thing has come up, our US cousins certainly have a better market and more diverse products to choose from, I do get a little bit jealous of the great amount of cheap but good products that our friends across the pond, get.

I'm sure they see all this stuff from the UK, Europe and the southern hemisphere as over priced.

Yep, we pretty much do.

I was speaking on just this topic a week ago with a friend of mine who was visiting from Ireland. Even when taking into consideration exchange rates and increased salaries it still seems that things are alot more expensive over there in the UK. Everything from rent and utilities to McDonalds. I was kind of shocked.
