New Update

There we go! Now that's a proper header? Why didn't I think of that before? My wife set our marriage date on June 6th, many years ago. Even then, she knew me well enough to know that I'd remember the date allied forces stormed Fortress Europe in operation Overlord before I'd remember our wedding anniversary. For that and so much more, I treasure her in a way that is beyond the ability of my poor words to express. She's reading all your comments so you'd better behave! We talk together about the highlights of each day.

As I sit here writing on this hot summer evening in August, John Roberts is working on the demo video you have all been clamoring for. We live two hours apart, he in Georgetown, just north of Austin, Texas, and I'm in San Antonio. I was all set to head up there this afternoon but ended up spending the day working here on the campaign. What a day it's been!

We broke through another stretch goal! 3 more free Sturmzombies added to most pledges. Make sure to check the icon associated with your pledge level and follow it through the stretch chart to see what you'll be getting. We're still working on the expanded pledge chart. I am confident that we'll get all the really good stuff into the campaign. It's all highly compressed from where it was at the start. We're learning as we go.

Let's try to hit another stretch this evening, shall we? We've had _alot_ of pressure to put up some more add-ons sowe've done just that. Dice, plastic doors, and a special "x-treme gamer" Bomberzombie pack. The dice and doors will become upgrades to the base game and SNAFU expansion when we hit the appropriate stretch goals. The special Bomberzombie pack will also be worked into the stretch goals so that Buckets of Blood pledge level gets it for free when it unlocks.

Here are the new add-ons!

It's ticking through the stretch goals now (up to 95k - extra Grunt APE). I would have thought this kickstarter would be getting more love - it's definitely the best board game of this type I've ever played.

Well it has just nipped over 95k and the game play video is is the offing - possibly tomorrow- so there may be a surge over the next two weeks.

The goals are more realistic and hopefully we will see the new goodies once we hit £100k - Jim keeps dropping hints - and possibly if the German Para Drop infantry are in there at a reasonable stretch level, it could take off.

My expectations are short goals to fill out the requirements for the M-13, then doors and possibly objectives, then possibly the Jerry drop boys at around 175-200k

I can dream can't I?

As much as I would like to see this make enough for Jim and company to produce the drop troops, it just doesn't look like they are going to get that far.

A real facepalm moment was when I found out/realised that SNAFU ($60!) only includes a paper board. Then again, the 10-model add-on for SNAFU is $40, so they're asking for near-miniatures prices for the plastic boardgame pieces that are included, so...

For many of us the value simply isn't there.

For me the KS simply doesn't give me enough benefit to pledge. You're not getting it any cheaper thru the KS. The addional miniatures, at this point, are pretty slim. And there's lots of other games out there like it.

ok I get that as each of us has our limits on the amount we can pledge. I know I am tapped out with my current pledge.

And that Value for each of is different...

Just trying to find out what makes us decide thing,

So for me I like this game due to the comments from those that have played this game before. its been out since 2009 so its not a brand new rules set untested.
And the rules aren't changing [well as far as I am aware]

Also the comparison to it playing like Space Hulk got me drawn into it. As I sold all of my space hulk off [even the 3rd edition] and my kids could play that game. [son's 5 and daughter is 7]
by the time I get this game he'll be almost 6 and should be well on his way to becoming a board game geek like his old man [he loves playing Zombicide and has the highest body count... Dam Dave and his Molotov Cocktails.]

for me this is a game that my kids and I can play and have fun together so it has a good value even with out the added minis.
The other part is the Solo missions so when the kids are at school I can play the game if I choose.

I am in for the long haul.,. do I hope they get more free minis added of course.

Good to see another father getting his kids into gaming. Let me make one suggestion in regards to Incursion. I also have a daughter (11 now) and painted up Gretel up as if she were wearing tights instead of panties. My daughter had asked 'Why would she be fighting in her underwear, that is stupid' so we made it less 'stupid'.

Been there with regards to minis that my wife is not fond of,. [she gives me that look, the one that screams "WTF are you kidding me......"]

I had a card game Kanzume goddess now my Daughter is really good at playing that game even beats me quite a few times now. But my wife put her foot down and said no more due to the large assets the girls have in the art work. [all of them are dressed so its nothing rude] My Daughter knows that they are not real [not every girl has big assets]

the lad is fine to play the game but he is only 5 and not into reading much... eventually he will and we can play Kanzume goddess together as its ok. cause he is a boy....go figure.

The Incursion game is going to be for me and the boy as its more his style, Men wearing big suits of metal charging down corridors hunting Zombies. every time I am on the KS page he runs up to see the minis and points out what he wants.

We both love WW2 tanks though he prefers WWI planes. I also have 4 Battlegroup armies for the Kursk and Overlord rules. every time I have them out to paint he's there watching me.
"I am looking with my Eyes Daddy not my hands" he is learning and will be a great gamer one day.

So in away I am buying this game so we can spend time together battling out in dark corridors with US APE's fighting Nazi Zombies, what could be cooler then that.

yeah,
Funding is currently at $95K
I have the Grinder level pledge plus a box of extra zombies...
Looking at it I don't see any of the next stretch goals as being of any interest to me.

The extra grunt apes Stetches aren't that useful there's already 4 in the box.
The extra Flamer and HMG apes are sorta useful...
However I'd don't see why the Drohne and Bazzooka ape stretch goals are not included at the grinder level stretch goals?
They are the first things that would actually 'add' something to the core game.

They could encourage people sitting on the fence to come in at grinder level.
Wait for the boxed game to hit retail or buy into the kickstarter now and get more variety of apes and a drohne for free!

Panic...

In a few years, look into Tide of Iron to play with the boy. If you get him into gaming and are willing to simplify the rules/use intro/basic rules, he might be able to get into it even earlier.
All those little tanks and soldiers.. it'd be heaven for a kid who's into WW2 stuff.

After looking at that vid it seems to be much like Battlegroup Kursk or Overlord which I have four armies [2x Germans 1x Soviet and 1x Brits]

just trying to build up the terrain I need for Overlord.

The dungeon crawl style is what he prefers and he is excited about Incursion ..

Yeah, I'm not trying to put you off Incursion, and I know you're very much on board with it.

Check out the D&D dungeon crawls (Ravenloft, Ashardalon, Drizzt). As they're co-op and not all about bewbs, you could play co-op with both your daughter and son as well as playing on their side yourself. (Since Descent is the GM versus the players). They're also quite simple and very accessible.

I am looking for a good fantasy dungeon crawl that my kids can play but I need something that can cater to different creatures I got from the Impact Miniature Chibi Adventure KS.
[but trying to find one that would enable my daughter to use her Ponies is becoming a bit of a fruitless quest.]

I have a big buy into Incursion cause ,my son does and that's what matters to me. still want to see that game play VId and hoping it will be out soon.,.

You can use those to cover Ravenloft pretty easily with a small amount of proxying.

Fantasy Characters are pretty generic to use as substitutes. Use your daughter's unicorn to proxy as the Elven Mage. We've always used nicer proxies for the characters, anyway.

Mobs are: (all x3)
Skeletons
Ghouls
Zombies
Wolves
Rat Swarms
Giant Spiders
Skeletal Casters
Gargoyles
Wraiths
Kobolds

The Big Bads are a:
Hag (easily proxied with anything you like)
Werewolf
Flesh Golem
Undead Dragon (small)
Skeletal Dragon (large)
Vampire
Kobold Mage

I may be wrong but the reason the stretch for the Bazooka APE and Drohne (as well as the free M13 chaps) is non Grinder is simply because the rules and cards needed to use these models are part of the expansion SNAFU.
I have !st edition and all the metal minis but still feel the Buckets of Blood option gives me. as a non US backer. a good deal. Incursion with new components (including better quality cards) SNAFU with printed cards and markers plus the new Character pack etc ....

Okay even allowing for free postage initially I was about RRP, but given that this is not likely to be available at online discount no issue there. The first kicker is the option to swap out the T shitrt for more Sturmzombies around £20 there if you could get them direct. Lets be a pessimist and say we do not hit the heights to bring in the Para Drop infantry (200k?) if we get close to that all main options are covered and there is a distinct possiiblty that a box of bomberzombies to meet the extreme use of Han von x ;sability will be in place as well/

Each to their own and I will be the first to admit that Wrath of Kings gives you a lot more plastic but the theme is not for me. I am a great fan of Incursion and a chance to keep it in print and possibly expand is, at least to me, worth a bit of my hobby budget.

yeah,
I have the first edition too and I'm sure it has the drohne and bazooka dude cut outs. I can check.
I understand why the MI13 guys are double feature up as they increase the force unit selection options for MI13 forces.
But I don't understand why they have choosen to exclude drohne and bazzoka guys from grinder level backers as they are the first stretch goals that would add anything new to the core game.

1st edition hade drohne stand ups, but the rules did not come in until SNAFU. The Bazooka troop didn't come in until SNAFU.

Yeah,
You right 1st edition gave me drohnes chits but no rules. No bazooka guys.

They also included.
4 Grunts (same as new of second edition...)
2 Hmgs (new second edition contains 1 standard)
2 Flamers (new second edition contains 1 standard)
2 B Hounds (new second edition contains 1 standard)
4 Bombers (new second edition contains 2 standard)
2 Drohnes (new second edition contains none)

So why not make the stretch goals worth while? People are looking for value in the kickstarter!
So far this kickstarter doesn't even match up to the chits in 1st edition?
Right now I have more options playing the edition I already own... I Might pull out. who am I kidding I want the models!!

I know that that 1st ed gave slightly more options in terms of standees but I do not get the argument about value in relation to the KS. The KS will use actual models to replace the standees so there must be extra value in that.

1st edition Blloodbowl gave you something like 8 teams of cardboard standees but surely noone could argue that 2nd edition even though it only included two teams of figures represented better value? Bit an extreme comaprison but I hope you see my point?

The deal for SNAFU makes even more sense value wise as the expansion was only he book with cut out pages - if you wanted- or you used the downloads to get your standees.

I still believe that if the KS gets to around the £160k mark you are getting a decent deal - especially with the newly offered potential to swap out things like the t-shirt and extra board for other add ons.

Just wanted to mention that both gameplay videos are up on our KS homepage. The short version just covers aspects of gameplay while the long version is a full game. You can simply see how the game plays or just enjoy watching a good game of Incursion or weep openly at my radiant beauty!

Day D+ 20 More Drop Armor and Designers Notes
Update #11 · Aug 20, 2013 · 6 comments

105k! Another day, another stretch. We're starting to get into some really meaty freebies now in the form of specialist troopers. Let's get this campaign in gear!

I have just posted some designers notes written by John Roberts on the new characters from the Exclusive Pack #1 here on our blog. Check it out:

http://www.grindhousegames.com/blogs/incursion-blog/8717265-designers-notes

Everything I needed to know I learned from comic books.

Well, not really but there were some comic images that stuck really fast to my impressionable eight year old mind. I bought the two comics you see below from the rack at the local corner store: one in 1977 and one in 1978. These were DCs belated attempt to join the war effort :-) I of course went on to read alot of the DC war titles and Marvel Bronze classics like the Invaders. Later in life I started collecting actual Golden Age Timely and Fawcett classics including some early Captain America, All Winners, and Captain Marvel/Whiz comics. My favorite was Captain Marvel Junior facing off against Captain Nazi. These two comics below kickstarted my deep fascination with "Weird" World War II, though.

Why is this pertinent? I suppose it's to give everyone a sense of the genesis of the madness, really, as we are about to roll out the Fallschirmjager Drop Armor as a stand-alone playable force in Incursion. We'll be dealing out info over the next few days including spectacular imagery of Hauptman Hilde Becker: our version of the Valkyrie in 1949 :-) WOW! Working as fast as we can...

In the interim,it's time to werf some flammen (sez John Allison)!

And a trooper:

Thank you all for your support!

and:

Day D+19: Fallschirmjager 1st Sighting
Update #10 · Aug 19, 2013 · 9 comments

Fallschirmjager MG-42 initial sketch. Thanks again to Andy Cooper of West Wind for the design and thanks to John Allison for the art. There is a bunch more but we're still working back and forth internally on the various character loadouts and poses.

Loving those drop troops!

Panic,

It's a good question and the answer is no. The old version was based off the AH rectangular bookshelf format whereas these are based off of a square box format. Current dimensions we're working with is 12"x12" but we might need to adjust slightly once we get the new version into production.

Can I ask about the box size?

If you are looking at a likely 12x12 is the depth remaining the same? I am wondering as given there are now miniatures in the box, I want to know what the storage may be like, nothing worse that having to cram stuff in simply to get tje lid down, especially if you have given them a lick of paint or two - I know that more than likely I opt for a separate case but ....
