yeah,
The casual way he threw stuff around gave me the impression they are bored of this kickstarter now!
Great to see the minis!

I was plaing on dropping everying and painting it all when I got it, but some minis looked quite like bendy plastic army men!
The Grunts look solid enough, it's just the rest of it... So I'm 80% sure this isn't something I'll paint.

However I'm super excited to get it all and play the feth out of the game!

Panic...

Jim was pretty clear in the update comments he was not going to address soft details. That kind of bothered me. At least show the faces of the darned figures in focus so we can see what we'll be getting.

I would like to see more pictures too.

However, from what I've seen things look pretty cool, it has been refreshing to see some progress on this KS.

Clearly seeing progress is good. Clearly they meet Jim's expectations at this point.

Not sure that negates the fact details look soft, and the video didn't really give us a clear look at most of the figures.

As a long time miniature gamer I always have to take a step back and remember that the game is a board game and needs to appeal to that community first.

I'm happy to see that the pieces are assembled and ready to play out of the box compared with other games where "some assembly required" was an understatement! It gives me hope that if he's somehow able to get this into retail it will appeal to a broader board game audience. I feel like after Sedition Wars, a few bent barrels are easy to correct! LOL!

I didn't offer any criticism on bent gun barrels.

If only companies using Boardgame PVC would start calling their models "boardgame figures" instead of "high quality plastic miniatures" while showing pictures of painted metals and resins. Of course that won't ever happen, but what the feth, I'm pretty much done with KS barring rare exceptions at this point. I'm certainly out on KSing Boardgames now - with perhaps Zombicide seasons as an exception.

The pics look interesting enough that I may want to pick up a copy of this for the figures

That may be difficult to do, except on Ebay. This may not get a retail release.

Very true. The difference between the resin studio figures and the game box plastics was an eye-opener in Shadows of Brimstone. So far the only one that might live up to it's expectations is Journey: Wrath of Demons, but I'm still waiting on that one to ship.

Update #48

November 2014 Update

Okay gang, here it is:

I just got off the phone with Andrew. Homeboy's ears are burning but he was a trooper. I gotta say that he is really good at dealing with angry clients. He can't call the shots but even so, he's a damned good rep. He's still around even after all my rants... that's saying something :-)

December 15 is the target date for sending the lot of finished product to the shipping company. I should have an advance copy of the final set of everything as produced in shrink-wrap, etc. several days prior to that. My birthday is Dec 12. Andrew said that might make a good birthday present however I don't celebrate birthdays anymore. My kids are required to say "happy 40th, Dad!" if they must say something on that day. My 40th was several years ago :-)

I'll do a video unboxing of all the final stuff when I get it in.

If they send on Dec 15th, it could sit in port awhile and take forever in US customs. 2 months= February 15th until we have it in hand. Folks outside of Europe will get it within a couple of weeks of that. We have to pack EU orders and send by overseas freight to UK so it may be April for you guys.

Just being as transparent as possible here.

Andrew says that Michael is offering to split the shipping charges with me as a gesture of goodwill. That's very nice of them considering that I am contemplating a lawsuit and have been for some time. Alas, I think that just getting this awesomeness into your hands is the biggest win John and I can achieve at this point.

Okay, just gotta vent. Here it goes: [CENSORED]!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, feel a little better :-) Love you guys! Go see John at MCON in Austin this weekend.

I think he's sabre rattling over the massive delays from Panda.

Maybe there's a breach of contract issue here?

Maybe?

Either way, 2015 (but BEFORE CNY 2015! Maybe.) it is!

Which probably pushes out the launch of SoTR2 as well...

And lo, an Update:

Update #49

Man, this seems like it's going on as long as WWII. Posting not just months but years in the title. We started working in earnest on the Kickstarter in March of 2013. Next month I'll be posting a 2015 update!! My favorite line from a band called Drive By Truckers:

"So I'll meet you at the bottom if there really is one, they always told me when you hit it, you'll know it. But I've been falling so long it's like gravity is gone and I'm just floating"

First the positive. You'll have to read to the end for my rant :-) Maybe by the time I finish uploading pics I'll chill and it won't be a rant. Let's find out together!

Andrew just sent the following pics of actual production copies a couple of hours ago. Apparently Fedex tried to deliver to me this morning at my office before office hours...duh. I think it's part of their business plan to piss everyone off by attempting delivery at weird hours and making you drive across town to pick up. I'll do an unboxing video when I get the goods. I note that there are no dice in the following pics. Hope they are in the hard copies I am getting.

Incursion:

SNAFU!

Buckets Extras

Next up, we have a few not-very-good photos from the plastics factory showing off some bulk. These are pretty fun :-) Ignore the color rendition. It's a function of the bad photos.

Okay, posting those photos was actually pretty fun so I'll take it easy on Panda. Here's the deal:

Per my last update and conversation with Andrew on this matter, Panda was to be shipping on the 15th. That would be four days from now for those who are counting. In order to do final assembly however, they need my sign off on the above-mentioned copies which I do not yet have. Furthermore, Panda has not received the plastics bulk and don't know when they are getting them. Clearly they are being produced. We have photographic evidence! I don't know what the feth is wrong with these people that they can't just SEND US THE GAMES but John and I are apparently utterly powerless to affect the course of events. I've been grilling poor Andrew all week. I hope to have more info to share shortly. I'll post any additional tidbits with the video unboxing.

This Kickstarter has been a life changing event for me. It's taught me a great deal. I think that besides heretofore unknown depths of patience and an even greater sense of humility, what it has taught me is that being militantly committed to the ideals of excellence and honesty pays off in the long run. In terms of money, we're still looking at break even with zero compensation and zero return on investment for YEARS of work but we have jobs so that's not such a big deal. The big payoff is from you guys. It's your support and enthusiasm and kind words and the awesome interaction we've had. I know John feels this way too. You people are why I continue to do this. For almost years now I have been dreaming of what I will say as an epilog. Still not there yet. A few months ago it would have been an unbroken string of expletives. Now...I think it may be just an outpouring of relief and love for all my new brothers. Well, maybe a few expletives for Panda :-)

One of these days we're going to have to convince John to "share" like this :-) Think that may be tough.

Take care folks,

Jim

This one has definite "After CNY 2015" potential still...

Update #50

Dec 16 2014
December 2014 version 1.1
Comment

Well, I got the "finished" set today. They accidentally shipped to John in Georgetown rather than me in San Antonio so had to wait a couple extra days. All in all, it looks FREAKING AWESOME but there are some major issues that need to get rectified. The board is gloss finish, the cards are not linen, missing a figure, no dice in any boxes, and other stuff. I'm hoping these are just minor coordination issues but Panda seems to take a minimum of a day to respond to my emails and they still haven't responded to the one from last week asking for clarification on schedule. I'll do a video unboxing soon. My homeboy Erik was out of the office today so maybe tomorrow. I pulled off the shrink wrap already so you'll miss that part :-)

On to the important stuff:

Steve Bullock is an uber geek and longtime supporter of Incursion. He also happens to be a massively talented cartoonist. I'd like to invite you all to check out his work and his thoughts on our group experience :-) He's done a couple of panels over the years about it and now has a fresh offering.. Thanks Steve. You rock, brother.

Yeah, I suspect even if he can get Panda to commit to fixing everything it is going to really delay the project even more.

yeah,
Jim seemed to have been very clear on the materials he wanted.

I'd guess panda used some incorrect materials in this first 'proof' to buy some time and delay the project further.

Me too. But then I have to wonder if the retail release will hit Sedition Wars or Robotech levels of discount next Black Friday.

Yeah - according to the Grindhouse Games Guys, there aren't many (any?) of these left over for retail.

And I don't think there are any plans to do another run either - at least, not at this point?

Yeah,
I sold my 1st edition of the game. I figured who needs two copies.
This year I've had zero copies, so I regret doing that... I'm now without.

But at least the end is in sight!!
I had 'buckets of energy' for this game during the KS and was planning on having a fully painted set.
Not sure thy will happen.

Right now I just wanna play!

I'm a lot less enthused now that I was then, or around the original ship date!

I'm still hoping that they can somehow spin this into an accelerated SoTR2 launch!

Looks like the home stretch now, the components that werenot to spec have been created and the run should now be on its way.

It has been a long wait but not too much longer now - so much weird ww2 goodness

Looking at the components it looks like better quality boardgame figures, certainly on par or better than recent offerings from Mantic. This one could be a serious contender for a retail relaunch later in the year

Unless they've changed their plans, any 'retail launch' at all was considered very unlikely.

I certainly hope that's changed, and they've been successful at whatever they needed to be successful at so that they could be...more successful here!

They've gone back and forth several times on the likelihood of the "retail" aspect of it, so who knows?
