Subject: MA Metrowest - Comments on the Gaming Clubs in the Area?

Hey folks,
This mainly applies to the people in the Boston area, as I wanted to get some thoughts from you guys. I've been prodding and poking around the various stores in the area that are decently close to where I am in the Metrowest area. Locations like Hobby Bunker, or either of the Battleground Games/Hobbies are a tad far for me. So far from my research, arranged by distance from me, it's been narrowed down to DorkaMorka in Watertown, 'Arvard 'Ardboyz in Cambridge, and The Whiz all the way west along Route 9. Has anyone here been to all three and could share some insights as to each of them? I'm looking to find out more about the crowd, are they TFG WAAC players or more casual, snobbiness, gaming availability/group size, fun factor, activeness, costs (I know that 'Arvard 'Ardboyz has to pay an annual club fee, for example).
Thanks in advance!

Ardboyz have a few good people but the whole paying for parking sucks. I go to the whiz and every Tuesday is 40k night but no real clubs there per say. Small amount of space but not worth the drive. Dorka is good as they focus on the hobby as a whole and from what I understand have good events.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House! |

I've only played at the whiz and battlegrounds plainville so can't comment on dorka morka or arvard ard boyz. But the whiz hosts monthly events and does warhammer every Tuesday. They have a team tournament tomorrow June 15th that should be fun. It's a bit of a hike(45 min) from Boston but everyone is friendly and offer a great variety of casual and competitive gaming.
The dorkamorka guys seem pretty casual and nice as well. Although I've had mixed reviews from people attending their events it's mostly positive. I Was hoping to go to their tournament on the 29'th in Watertown but life got in the way so that's unfortunate.
I live out route 2 about 30 minutes from metro Boston. In a town called boxboro. Non of the stores around me besides the whiz are any good for play space though.

Yeah. I heard a lot of grumbling about parking for Ardboyz. I'll probably run down to check out Dorka. Can anyone speak as to whether it's a good crowd there?

I'm just starting to get into the play part now that I'm almost finished painting a decent mob of Speed Freaks
the 'Arvard Boyz seem pretty chill and were friendly to me and my son when we checked it out
Good parking tip for Cambridge is all meters are free after 8:00. Arrive at 6 and put two dollars in the meter and you are good to go
I'm hoping to get more active with them over my son's summer vacation

I just recently started to check them out myself. They seem like phenomenal people and I definitely look forward to getting some games in there on Thursdays, but they are not overly interested in "hardcore" tournament play like some of the gents who frequent Battlegrounds are.

The dark star elite are more tourney plasters as well as the cold Steele mercs. All solid guys just different hobby focus. The ardboyz are not as active as they used to be but my favorite member is Jared Friedman (I will leave his nickname out of this as it may offend some).I've been ticketed for not paying the full amount on a night at pandemonium so no one can tell me theirs any trick and I have vet plates. The only place I tell people not to go is the hobby bunket as they are dark and dingy and smell funky (the store). I feel like I'm walking to my death every time I descend into their store. Battleground has the best events in the region though hands down but I've also encountered some of the most prickish players I have ever meet to during those events so it goes both ways.

You shouldn't get a ticket at the meters after 8pm with any plate, My office is on Magazine Street and I'd like to believe that I have a reasonable understanding on parking in Central Square
And thanks one and all for the recomendation for DorkaMorka
Definitely gonna check them out

Could you let me know how Dorka turns out compared to Ardvard Ardboyz? Also, do you just walk into the club, or do you need to sign up on their forums first, tell them you're coming, etc.?
