Right, here is my dilemma; I am looking to create a thematic force, which will include a couple of squads of Tanith-style light infantry. Now, since this will be a display project, i want to include various support vehicles for use in themed games/campaigns with my mates (essentially, Not only do I want to have the core 'usable' sections of the army, I also want to be able to tell the story of how they get TO the various theatres).

To this end, I am looking for suitable scale troop trucks with which to ferry the Tanith about, (the novels putting me in mind of the generic transporter trucks used by the allies in WWII), and so far the best I have come up with is Warlord Games' Deuce truck

www.warlordgames.com/store/bolt-action/us-army/deuce-2-and-a-half-ton-truck.html

Has anyone got any other suggestions, or seen this done before? What do you guys think of the aforementioned example?

Dave Taylor's Ork Trukk retro-conversion (de-orkied).

The Warlord one is at least scaled for 28mm - since it's for Bolt Action (28mm skirmish WW2) however, bear in mind that GW's figures haven't been realistically close to 28mm for many years.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

Oh aye I know that much... Luckily Victorias "not tanith" are a lot closer to a realistic scale, and I get round it by virtue of Vostroyans being in full armour (and bloody gorgeous models).

Iv seen DTs truck, imo thought the cab was brilliant, but overall too mechanical. Dunno why...

1/48 ww2 trucks, although ideally, you'd want to find something around the 1/40 scale, which I dont thin you'll find. Maybe 1/44, or something like that, but I think those are non-army scales...

I think that you should try looking about in toy stores, even the cheap ones or Newsagents that sell toys. I have seen at various times in the past fairly cheap looking WW2 army type trucks.

That one you have linked to does look good but at £20 a pop it is alot. Try Amazon even, there may be something you can use there.

Tamiya's 1/48 WWII line has trucks and cars of varying types. They might be a good place to start. I'd recommend getting them from Hobby Link Japan or a similar etailer though if you're interested as the actual Japanese price is way better than what I've seen hobby shops around here selling them for.

Looks okay for a WW2 truck, but do you want that in a SciFi setting?

Had a think. If you are good with your custom-work, you might be able to make something nifty by grabbing 2-3 SM bikes and mixing them up with a scout land-speeder. You'll have to saw off the engines, add a bit more cargo/carrying space and find a way to add the wheels, etc. Its techy, and would look more like an extended halo warthog, but hey, it's an idea.

If I can plug one of my works, I did a monumental article on civilian vehicles for 40k a while back

http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Civilian_vehicles_in_40k

My favorites are the Chinese trucks I found but I've not seen them outside of China.

I think WWII trucks would work but I would go for 1/35. While 1/48 is correct, it always looks small because G models are on bases and have dramatic poses, 1/35 makes up for that. Besides we expect Imperial equipment to be huge.

You might also check out the new Dystopian Legions line. They have 2 supply vehicles that are a bit small but would look perfect in any IG army.

that reminds me. Almost any 1/35 armored car will do for IG transport. One will have to bulk out the cabin and add an access door, but for scale, they are spot on.

I would be hesitant about the Jackel in 1/48th scale, its pretty small in RL and the heroic scale of 40k tens to make real scaled stuff in 1/48th seem tiny..doors hatches etc are all very small.

But those are very cool models..I was looking into some 1/35th stuff to do a themed elysian force with supracats as "Taros " vehicles.

I couldn't rate Tamiya's 1/35 scale kits more for their suitability for 40k. Admittedly they require conversion work so as to adjust the interior fixtures so they suit the models better. For the Tanith I'd suggest the M5 American Halftrack series perhaps, though as I recall they used the trucks more for moving from one zone to another, not for actual combat, so I'd suggest going for a civilian one instead (though with suitable plasticard plating). The price of the Tamiya trucks also trumps their competitors from my experience. I was searching for some halftracks for my Chaos force a while ago, settling on the Sd.Kfz. 251, though I enclosed the interior one to save on conversion work, and two to make it suit the rules more. ...Not so much two though. ...It just looked cool that way. =P

Yeah Im not looking for a combat-oriented transport, more of a thematic piece for display...

Got plenty to think about, cheers
Oh, and KidK, it was your article that got me thinking about this, so thank you...

LOTS of 1/43 scale diecast heavy trucks out there.
