Sadly it is expensive, with a gun taking up half my paycheck.

Which is cheaper? Airsoft, or 40K?

40k has the added value I can do something with it the moment i buy it, Airsoft I would most likely play it less often then I do 40k.

I'd say airsoft. For $220 you can get a great starting gun, bb's, and a mask. Boom.

If something falls through, you can put it on Craigslist for about $100. I know I'd never get a return like that for selling my Tau!

I went paintballing once. It was fun. There was a group of 5 of us that went, and we used their rental equipment. The kids and young adults that we played with and against had better personal equipment (guns that shot 30% further and such) and they knew the courses well.

Despite that, and the cheating kids that kept playing after they were hit, it was lots of fun.

Regarding the surrender rule, I'm pretty opposed to it. Shooting someone in the back of the head from 5 feet is a dick move, and you should get expelled from the game for crap like that. But yeah, just pop them on the foot or arse and move on. Calling out surrender gets you sprayed.

My solution to surrender rule? Roll around with those nerf weapons. At dday 2012, I bought a...um...it's that clip you use while mountain climbing. Anyways it had a small end and a large end. I clipped it to my tac vest right shoulder strap, with the large end sticking out. I took a nerf warlock axe and stuck the handle down through the large end. I'm big on actions speaking louder than words, and I try my best to be humble, but walking around with two postol waist holsters, a bandolier across my chest of co2 and 10 round tubes, and a large axe head looming over my shoulder like I just walked out of skyrim, I felt pretty bad ass. Friends said I looked the part too.

Also, if you aren't a fan of bruises and cuts, paintball is not where you need to be. I was so close to getting a crescent moon scar when a tank lit me up during dday 2010, but my stupid body denied me that privilege and healed it in like a week.

Edit - also meant to say that you use nerf weapons to barrel tag. Also, if your gun screws up or you run out of air or paint, the only honorable thing left to do is charge them with nothing more than courage and a foam weapon. Cup is optional.

I haven't played in years and should sell my gear. Is tokyo marui still popular and is the EG700 still considered a good motor?

I went out with a bunch of foreigners. It was amusing, since we shouted starting at eachother in hungarian and slovak. We understood every one of the enemy team's instructions, and countered everything they threw at us, meanwhile, despite having to translate orders from hungarian to slovak, we managed to keep them on their toes, and far far back. In fact the fight went so quick, we spent another 5 minutes slinking around skirmishing bolt-holes and trees before we realized we killed them all. This, all the same day that I looked like this:
and man oh man did i get a lot of stares that day. I was also the only bloke with combat boots, and it'd been a long weekend of raining, and I was the only person rocking combat boots, so of course, I was ignoring all puddles, any kind of slope, and jumping into craters with a good foot of standing water, all with impunity. Even the veterans with expensive and custom gear were being Prima Donnas... I never understood how one could purchase all that fancy gear, like padded vests, and then hide behind a hill without making a break for a better piece of cover, and just sit there taking suppressing fire. Not sure what that padded vest will do for you if you don't actually get to use it.

nice suit. I wasn't sure if that was you in your avatar, now i know! As Dr. Frazzled said, respect is in low orbit.

which adds auxiliary benefits? 40k will help you become the best dad evar, as you will learn skills that are usable both for making doll-houses and awesome stuff for your son, and really, you won't be concerned about seeing being played with dolls if that's what your daughter is into..... on the other hand, airsoft offers exercise benefits. Nothing like adrenaline to push you past what you think is your limit. The last time I went paint-balling I hurt for 3 days, not from the paintballs, but from the physical exertion I put myself through. I think the cost is about the same for the two once all's said and done.

It depends on where you live, the laws are different in each country. In UK airsoft guns are supposed to be 'non lethal' to distinguish them from firearms. Non lethal is usually accepted to be around 1 joule, which works out something like 320 to 340 fps (depending on the weight of the bb). There is a common misconception that single shot rifles and such, can be more powerful (500 fps). While it is true that you can legally own a 500fps sniper rifle, it is technically illegal to fire it at people (even in games). However most airsoft sites seem to have their own regulations and safe distance rules, and I don't think the authorities really care, so long as replica weapons aren't being brandished in public.

With regards to the topic, I came across this video on youtube which made me chuckle http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttS6Ut4Eatc

I go once a month or so, have done for the last 5 years at combat south and ground zero near me.
350 fps limit on automatics, 500 fps limit on bolt actions, just no close range shots (under 20 yards or so)
Lost a tooth here and there and allways end up with cuts and bruises, but its half the fun.

Also, ill go to the mall or asylum in reading once in a while, just for a nice change.

Still tinkering with the M14 with thoughts of an EBR kit for it, simply because i love the way it looks.
Other than that, the only gun ive really bothered to tinker with is the G36, and ive gone a bit OTT with it as it now weighs a bit more than i'd imagined it would have lol.
All fixed with a sling though, just dont plan on carrying it in my hands for more than 5 hours at a time.

Nah, really only older players still use them. They're still just as reliable, but I think of several different companies that are cheaper, shoot harder/faster, and are easier to work on. TM just kinda died off.

Did paintball back in the 80s, but once I joined the army, never did airsoft or paintball again...a few years ago we did MOUT training and they introduced SimAmmo

kinda looks like the stuff we used.

It sucked, and drew blood, but had a nasty accurate range..can't imagine the liability required for civvies to use these.

But the airsoft guns look cool at least.

Honestly, warhammer is cheaper. What is it, like 200 bucks for an army that will still be useful in like 20 years?

If you know what to look for you can get a solid beginners paintball gun for 60 ish (tippmann or go home). Then you're spending 40 bucks for 2000 paintballs which you can eat through in a day. Then you're paying admission every time you go.

You realize, wearing a suit and shouting "BLAME THE VICTIM!" while firing away would be just about perfection?

Love paintball. I do woodsball, I have never enjoyed speedball.

I have a few dozen stories, I'll share a couple:

Buddy's parents have about 5 wooded acres. Great field, and free to use to boot. Had a work friend want to hold a birthday party out there and play. Sure.

Then sixteen 12-14 girls show up. They start out really scared and afraid to get hurt. By the end of hour three, they were insane serial killers. The dad of one of the kids thought charging them would scare them and get an easy win. He took about 30 hits in under 3 seconds. HILARIOUS.

Every time we'd play out there we would do a "noob vs. experienced" game. Usually it isn't a bad game, we experienced players usually just outmaneuver them and win quickly. Then we grab a couple of the noobs and start teaching them how we do it. Most awesome win was 13 noobs vs. 3 experienced guys. Noobs lost without us taking a casualty. We'd never do that game more than once a session unless the noobs really wanted to. Sometimes they would want to do it several times to try to get better.

On a damn hot day, I decided we would do a quick game, but didn't tell the other team it was anything but a normal game. I told my team we would "Gettysburg" them. We all just walked forward, not using cover, and laying down fire. We won very quickly, and without taking any losses. The other team had not idea what to do against the WALL OF PAINT.

On the subject of noobs, specifically young ones, I've noticed they have a tendency to freeze up a lot in the game if a shot even sorta goes their way. With that in mind, whenever my nephew gets a little older and I take him to play (he keeps begging), I'm going to wait for him to freeze up like that. If he doesn't, I'll be mighty proud, but if he does I'm just going to snatch him and run forward while screaming "NO SOLDIER LEFT BEHIND!!!"

Also, I hate woodsball for the most part. Woodsball can be fun but only if heavily regulated. Ive never played a game that involved a bunch of guys just meeting up that didn't turn into hide and seek in the forest, except when you go seeking you get shot up by the hiders. That's why I like speedball, it's fast and in your face, none of that wandering around and not shooting someone for who knows how long. Of course, a woodsball game regulated well is awesome. Like Dday or any other forest heavy scenario event.

Woodsball is playing in a sectioned off (usually) portion of the woods. You want terrain? You got trees and such.

Speedball is playing in a much smaller arena style setting. The Official NPPL Field is 100 x 180 feet border to border and 120 x 200 feet net to net. Terrain comes in the form of fancy stuff like inflatable barriers, or cheap stuff like pallets and crates and such.

I'm with you on that. Unless it's a small woods field, I'd much rather play airsoft/paintball on a COB/speedball field. Walking around for 10-15 minutes trying to find the other team is boring if you ask me. Go MilSim if you want to do that

they call it simunition now, basically only the military is allowed to shoot it at you

speedball is a practice in sitting against a fluffy peice of cover and wasting as much money as possible in as short a time as possible

I loathe speedball fields. I think the "stalking" element of trudging through the woods or hiding in ravines, etc is half of the fun. As far as I'm concerned, there's no kill like hitting someone in the back (if I'm close enough to headshot, then I won't, because shooting someone in the back of the head is a dick move).

Getting shot in the balls drops me like a sack of bricks. It's just so rare I don't worry about it. Played for...oh...6 years now? Been shot there twice I think. Both times because I was running full on at someone. You learn to attack from angles or suffer the consequences.

It's just that some people REALLY shouldn't have anything like a gun in their hands. People shooting paintball guns gangsta style (dear lord). I'd never play anything else than woodland tbh, it's a lot more fun and a lot more exciting than playing with those bouncy-thingies. Too bad you gotta drive right over the border to the Netherlands if you're German.

We frequently drive there with my team, team-building training etc. Much better than this "Close your eyes and your partner will catch you" crap. Plus: free paintball!
