So I think we can safely stop with the idea that the Wave Serpent is getting discontinued.

I don't think anyone seriously entertains the idea of the Wave Serpent going out of production, but becoming unavailable as a single kit (and merged with the Falcon kit to become a double kit) is likely.

Or they want to screw LGSs out of potential sales that are forced to only GW. But lets go with your suggestion, not my cynical approach.

direct doesnt mean LGS cant get the product, from what I understand it just means that the "cost" to get the item for the LGS goes up and the shipping time increases by a lot. My order with my LGS was still sent off to GW, its just there margin is lower and the shipping is silly

It will be 'great news'.

Unless they redo it as FineCast. Of course then it would be "Great News! Transporting vehicles can be a pain, but our new FineCast Wave Serpent conviently breaks into smaller pieces for transport at random. That keeps it exciting and is also great news for those hobbyist who need more excitement!"

No no no no no. You've got it all wrong. The FineCast Wave Serpent conveniently breaks into smaller pieces cinematically.

As much as I give GW hell, I still have a Wave Serpent conversion I want to build one day - turning the kit into something that hearkens to the old bireme style of Rogue Trader/2nd Edition while maintaining modern design sensibilities. It will be quite a challenge, and basically I am waiting until I have my housing/work life settled down enough to have a long, ongoing project. I hope the current kit is still around then and costs less than $100.

Seems like a bad move to move to direct-only before having the repackage available. With the book being so new still and new people likely still starting up Eldar, making it harder to get a core piece of the army just seems like bad business sense, even for GW.

Eldar shenanigans are the best shenanigans!

No worries, the Eldar Battleforce box still has a WS in it, just buy one of those any time you want a serpent

You can pretend you are getting the Dire avengers for free to ease your grudge on that one too!

They told me about two weeks ago that they were moving it to mail order only.

used to be that meant a new kit. Now? who knows. Stuff disappears from the shelves right and left. The ones that bother me are things like ogre butchers, basilisk tanks, high elf archers, wave serpents and other really good selling units that are needed for armies. Half the fantasy armies are unplayable if you don't order stuff from the website or special order through stores.

Did you have that many people buying High Elf Archers?

The crummy core are one of the biggest things keeping me from going all out on High Elves. If you are not getting Lothern Sea Guard models, you have models older than some of your opponents--and those models did not age well at all.

Quite a few people start up armies whenever a new army book comes out. Every one of them buys at least a box of archers. Well, or used to. Now I have to try and special order them. Special orders are taking 1-8 weeks. Most stuff in about 2-3 weeks.

While it's the same time it would take for the customer to order from GW, its not always perceived that way by the customer.

And it's clearly not a supply problem. Presumably you can still order things that contain those items (like Eldar Battleforces)?

It was a badge of honor to scratch build your wave serpent if you were to be a "true" Eldar player. I still have mine from long ago.

I still use the three that I built for GT Chicago 1999 or 2000, whenever that was. I actually own a couple of the new kits that haven't even been built yet. I guess I should get to that now so I can do some "proper" serpent spam.

If GW still had model release waves, I'd assume they're just waiting to be reboxed, like the Basilisk, but Eldar was just updated, why take it out now? Since they did release those boxes of three bike equivalents with Eldar, perhaps the next 40k release will see them slip in as well, or they might remain in limbo until all the 'dexes are released.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

Now that you mention it... Rec'd an order from GW recently that was packed in a cheapo Chinese cardboard box. Along with the ordered items was a letter saying that they were testing out a new box supplier and to please provide feedback if there were any problems with the box. Sure enough there was a 1" diameter hole punched into the crappy cardboard on one side of the box. So yes, there are indeed Citadel FineBoxes™. Have not seen a cheapo FineBox since...

So how much did the baneblade go up when they repackaged it to add in the extra parts to make a variant?

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

I wouldn't mind a reboxing that much.
Build all the wave serpents you want, and magnetise (if it's that much trouble), the Heavy choice skimmers.
After all, the only difference between the Falcon and the others is hatch panel (door or engines) at the back, and the turret.
Currently, Night Spinners and Fire Prism share the same turret, and having surplus helps with that.
Or, make a quad-gun out of the spares.

Yep, just checked: Not a single Eldar or Dark Eldar box mandatory, but 5 boxes of Grey Knights and 4 boxes of Dark Angels.

It's horribly selfish of me I know, but since I could use a serpent or two more to go with the four I already have, and I've been on the lookout for some separate falcon turrets to give some more versatility to my 3 fire prisms (those things turn out to be all hell to DIY in resin...) this would actually suit me quite well. I feel for new players though - that kind of price rise just *has* to hurt.

And no, there's no way you're magnetizing a WS to double as falcon/prism - not only is it significantly different at the rear (and in a nasty to magnetize in a decent-looking way!) there's also the six protrusions at the front which will always chip paint here and there if magnetized, IMO. Nope, Falcon/prism is the best double you can hope for with any realistic amount of work, to a good result.

I hear ya fellas...

The move to direct only is completely absurd.
GW is systematically screwing the FLGS.
By moving the core units to Direct only and still forcing the retailer to purchase BUNDLES of WHITE DWARF!!

So basically what they are saying is this..

We want you to stock our lesser quality miniatures that we have rereleased as finecast and then we are going to take the items that people want and need for their armies and make sure that the customer orders from us instead of you, Mr. Friendly shopowner but you still have to buy our INSTORE ADVERTISING FOR PRODUCTS YOUR CUSTOMERS CANT BUY AT YOUR STORE.

Not the best way to maintain a working relationship.

Im fortunate enough to have crafted 2 out of Faclons from back in the day. But for my son , he had to purchase the Battleforce to get a waveserpent. pretty sad...

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

So one of the most useful units in the new Eldar book is moved to direct order only because of the pre-eldar release sales evaluation? That's laughably incompetent.. no consideration for how it may sell with a new book and better rules?

... hardly surprising.
