After doing a few Ultramarines (and a Chaos Marine, or two) I decide to give Orks a try.
As a beginning painter, I'm using different miniatures trying to get a feel for painting, layering, highlights etc.
So far, for me at least, Space Marines seem to be the "easiest", but its not supposed to be about what's easy, right?
Here's my first Bad Moon Ork. It's a work in progress but, any suggestions and critique would be greatly appreciated as he still has 3 friends in the box...
I see a bad moon arising. I see trouble on the way...
Automatically Appended Next Post: Well, I spent most of yesterday and the better part of today finishing this bad boy up. let me know what you think
and a side view...
to be honest when I started the model I wasn't to hopeful. The snap and fit Orks have a lot of leather belts and straps and such that aren't really that visible (they don't stick out as much as I would like), but int eh end after washing and highlighting I think it cam out really well.
3 more to go...

Just a quick update. Got my Bad Moons Ork based and other than drilling the muzzle, he's ready to go (at least, I think he is).
Let me know what you think. Cheers

Looks good! I'd recommend drilling the barrels, and maybe adding a quick line highlight to the hard edges, mostly on the metallic bits. Still, it looks great! You have a very steady hand, which is really good.

Certainly looks good enough. If suggest if you really want to enjoy painting an Ork either paint a nob or grot. The nobs have so much going on and look awesome, and grots are just pure character.
Keep it up.

I'd highlight the tan pieces with a bit of yellow for that Bad Moon feel... otherwise, looking good!!

Eh...
Inmygravenimage: That's sweet dude. I bet her ass is bad...
Camkierhi - What a load of rubbish... Amazing!
Rogue Wolves - Its rediculous how much character you pack into those guys
Skalk Bloodaxe: I know those will be awesome when finished, but right now they look like crackers.
Necro-pocalypse weirdness:

Thanks for the advice. You're right, I need to get a drill and do the gun barrels.
The pics aren't the best, but if you look closely, i did a few highlights on the shoulder pad and on the front sides of the helmet. They are a bright yellow color which looks better on the actual model. I will try and brighten those up and maybe to a few edges on the gun itlsef.
I try and take my time and not rush through anything. Luckily, my hands don't shake

Yeah, I'm definitely gonna pick up a pack of 10 once I finish the other 3 snap and fits
After all is said and done, they are rather fun to paint...

Thanks, gonna do that.
The pic quality could be better because the tan is actually a mustard yellow (Aver-something sunset base with a Sepia wash)

A splash of dried blood on the choppa would look nice, as would a hint of rust in the recesses of the metal parts. Mud, blood, and rust can add character, but don't overdo it.

Hello All
Finished up the second Bad Moon Ork... I swear these things have too many belts and buckles and such 2 more and I'm done with the snap n' fits and I can move on to the "regular" bad boyz
Automatically Appended Next Post: of course I still need to base him and do the bolts on this helmet and around the horn. maybe do a bright yellow highlight on the from part of his helmet too...
(I know, I know - drill the muzzle)
