The Golden Throne GT is growing - we've partnered with WaCon, the brand-new game convention in Waco, Texas, to offer the Golden Throne Southwest to players in the Lone Star State!

The Golden Throne GT Southwest is a five-round Swiss format tournament. That means that every player is able to play each round, and at the end of the tournament the player with the best record is the overall champion!

Players are awarded 3 points for winning a game, 1 point for drawing a game, and 0 points for losing a game. In the case of tied scores our primary tiebreaker is strength of schedule – that means that the player whose opponents won the most games will rank highest.

Like the Golden Throne GT in California, the GTGT Southwest is a 2000pt tournament that lets players compete in the way they were meant to - with double force organization and 40k-approved Forgeworld and missions straight from the rulebook!

Tickets to the Grand Tournament can be purchased through the GTGT Southwest website, and include Saturday and Sunday convention passes. If you have questions about the event, please post here or join our Facebook group!

Sounds delightfully chaotic. Definitely not what I look for in a tournament, but it should be fun.

I'm there.

I've added an option to our website for a GT ticket without a convention ticket, in case any of you have already purchased your WaCon badge.

In regards to requiring the FW books, a few units have their updated rules on the FW website. SoB Repressor APCs, a few characters, etc.

Do we still need the book, even though the entry in the book is completely outdated?

A GT ticket (including a Saturday & Sunday WaCon pass) is $65.

The preferred hotel of the convention is the Courtyard Marriott, which is $109 per night. There are other hotels in the area that my be cheaper, though.

Hope to see you and your Necrons there!

Now that the GTGT 2013 is on the books, we're turning our full attention toward the inaugural Golden Throne GT Southwest! We have a ton of awesome terrain and we're working with our sponsors to bring a truckload of prizes with us to the Lone Star State!

Sorry I didn't notice this sooner! You should bring the most current version of the rules with you. If that's a PDF from the FW website, there's no need to bring the book with outdated rules.

I was looking at this but it looks like only 16 players? Is that correct?

No, it's not. Where are you seeing that?

We're expecting between 30 and 60 players. We've worked with the convention to make sure we have plenty of space!

I was just looking at the Wacon game schedule page because I was curious to see what else was there. The reg system says 0 judges 16 players there. So looked like there was a limited amount of space to sign up.

Thanks for the info! I'll have the convention update that.

If you're planning on playing in the Golden Throne GT Southwest, please note that our deadline for new releases is September 7, 2013. Any official rules released before or on that date will be allowed at the GT; any rules released after that date will not be legal for play.

Hmm... I might be able to go! Any idea on the entrance fee?

Are you gonna be using the new FW IA Apoc book? Only people who went to Games Day have it right now.

-Edit: Found the fee! I'll try to be there!

Is this the book you're asking about? It's got a release date of August 9, so it's legal for the event.

Hope to see you there!

It looks like the new Space Marine codex drops on September 7 - which means we may be the first GT in the country where the new book will be LEGAL! What army will you be bringing?

Ticket sales are picking up! Come on out to the new con and help us build a great, long-lasting grand tournament presence in Texas!

For those of you who haven't seen what the Golden Throne looks like in action, check out this awesome photo gallery by Adam from the Dice Abide - it's full of photos from the GTGT 2013!

Preliminary prize information has been posted on our website! Our Tournament Champion will be taking home a Dreamforge Leviathan Crusader titan in addition to assorted other goodies. We'll post more in-depth information about prizes as soon as possible!

I like how there's going to be a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place. Gives something for us average players to shoot for.

We have a pretty large pool of prizes to give away, and we're generally pretty generous with them. In addition to 1-4 place and Best Painted Army, we're also bringing our Bounty Matches to the GTGT Southwest - each round we'll select one game to place a bounty on, and the winner walks away with the prize! Bounties are typically things like Secret Weapon Miniatures resin bases, conversion bits, or other cool items.

Is there a certain objective marker size you'd prefer we us? 25mm, 40mm?

As long as all of your objectives are the same size, either one is fine.

On another note, registration for the GTGT Southwest closes this Wednesday night at 11:59pm. This is a hard deadline - after that point we will not be accepting any more players either in person or online. If you haven't picked up your tickets yet, get them now!

Registration closes tonight at 11:59PM Pacific time, guys! After tonight there's no more signing up - not online or in person. We have to use a hard deadline so that we're able to accurately assess the amount of terrain we need to bring to Texas.

See you this weekend!

UPDATE: We've just learned that the exhibit hall at Wacon Game Convention won't open until 8:30am tomorrow. As a result we're going to be checking players into the GTGT Southwest from 8:30am - 9:15am, and Round One will begin at 9:30am (instead of 9am). See you tomorrow!
