Hey all, Im new at this so C&C is welcome and needed. Here's my first crack at making an army list.

HQ:
Cadre Fireblade w/ 2 marker Drones-60pts.

Troops:
3 Squads of Fire Warrior squads-162pts
add 6 Fire warriors to each squad-162pts
each squad will have 1 Shas'ui w/ Markerlight and Target lock-75pts
2 full squads will have Pulse Carbine
1 full squads will have Pulse Rifle
1 Shas'ui will take Marker drones (the ones in the rifle squads)
2 Shas'ui will take Gun drones (the ones in the carbine squads)

Elites:
2 squads of Crisis Suits-22pts
add 1 Crisis suit per squad-22pts each
add 1 Shas'vre per squad-10pts each
Now not sure what to take with the suits for their weapons/systems lists

XV104 Riptide-180pts
add 2 shield drones-50pts

Heavy Support:
Hammerhead Gunship-125pts
Longstrike-45pts

This gives me a total of 967pts, so I have some room to play with add-ons and such. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

1) Cadre Fireblade costs 60 points for the base model. Adding two drones will make him cost 84 points.
2) You didn’t leave enough points open for the Crisis Suits. The weapons on a Crisis suit can cost more than the suit itself.
3) You Said you’re taking 2 squads of Crisis suits but quoted the price for one (you probably just forgot to say each).
4) I calculated the actual point cost for this army and you’re at 1017, and your Crisis Suits don’t even have weapons yet.

Hmm. Ok... Well I looked back at the Codex, and for Cadre, It says "Options: May take up to two Drones from the Drones List" doesnt have a cost for them.
As for the rest, I didnt really think about that >.< So I think i may be taking out the Hammerhead. Or possibly the Riptide.

If you look at the page before the HQ choices you'll see the available war gear. It's there that it says that the 4 basic drones are 12 points each. You'll also find your weapon choices there as well.

As others have said your math is wrong. Now on to being helpful The cadre Fireblade is not a bad option, but don't over look an ethereal though they are good to. Drones do have a price they are under tau empire wargear list. Take another good look through your codex and really read what its says (not being rude but a lot of your questions will be answered there). At this point level don't waste your points on longstrike, hammerheads have a good bs so don't worry about him right now. Give the hammerhead submuntions as well as a blacksun filter (dirt cheap and really helpful) also SMS are really good so take them. Pulse carbines on firewarriors are a waste so keep the pulse rifles. Keep your firewarriors base don't really worry about have markerlights on them take pathfinders for markerlights. They are cheap and a squad or two of five (no sarge needed) will really do your list wonders. You can take three squads of firewarriors, but give them a sarge that ld 8 is a lot better than ld 7. Next think about devilfish transports they have a price tag to them, but the are good at what they do and you get gun drones with them. If you choose to take them drop a squad of firewarriors you can get by with 20 at this point level. Battle suits have to PAY FOR THEIR WEAPONS you can't take what weapons you would like on a unit like that for a base cost of 22pts. So if you take them you are going to have to drop the riptide.

Now that is good for right now if you post an update list I will being more than willing to help you out from there, but the biggest thing is right now for you to do is go read through the codex there is a page that tells you how many points things are (once again not being rude, but that is a big thing).

Exactly as the above post says, I'd try to keep the riptide though. If you take the pathfinders I would drop the Shas'ui from your squads and drop 1 fire warrior... You'll open a bunch of points and if you take an ethereal instead of the Fireblade all your squads will get to use his leadership (assuming you keep them in range) plus have a higher shot output.

He's right about the rifles v the carbines the pinning doesn't make up for the extra range.

Also if you take the riptide don't waste the points on the drones. He's already a tough mamma jamma and has a wicked damage output without them especially at this point range.

As for your crisis suits you gotta figure out what role you want them to fill. Without the hammerhead I would go FB/FB target lock and drop the leader from that as well. Give your pathfinders a recon drone to help deep strike these guys in if you want

Dropping most if the drones and Shas'ui and scaling back to 1 crisis team should allow you to keep the hammerhead as well or trade it for some more suites
