Well after a 24 hour cool down period, i have gotten an apology, and also sent their TO one as well. We were both hot under the collar and let it get the better of us.

Alamo GT>> Lol, sorry i unloaded on you should have known better than to email in the frazzled state i was in last night, especially to a fellow TO. It wasnt you i was mad at, and that was immature of me. My sincere apologies, and your money will be refunded as soon as i get back home.

Me>> yea, also i apologize as well, was pretty steamed, but you know how it is in the heat of the moment. I was in the wrong just as well.

What exactly is the point of this thread?

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

It probably wasn't you. Maybe he had dealt with 3-4 other stressful things right before he replied to your e-mail, and the aggravation from those spilled into his reply.

For what it's worth, Alamo was a fun time.
The TO did seem a little scattered but that might've been just me.

I'm not even sure what there is to be upset about other than not getting to go.

Seems like any other thread showcasing customer service blunders. AlamoGT appears to me to have acted unprofessionally and I see no problem with Hachieman sharing his displeasure.

I don't. I've been to the Alamo GT 2 times and loved both trips.

It appears as if they filled up before the OP paid, he inquired and was answered that they filled up.

Are you sure there wasn't an email from you between his 2 there?

I can understand that you were upset that they filled up earlier than they thought but it appears as if you both got a little hot under the collar.

Yeah, I don't see where the AlamoGT guy was rude, but the last response from the OP was a little harsh.

It seems to me like you should have sent an email before you paid to register, and then upon confirmation, paid up. That's how I've handled every GT I've ever been to and it's not failed me yet.

That being said, you certainly did not take disappointment in stride and you will certainly not be winning us over with trying to poison the well. The TO is obviously stretched thin trying to run the event, and cannot be held responsible for your eagerness to hand over your cash.

He was in no way rude, and handled the problem quite well by offering to return your money without even being asked. Again, you should really reconsider how you handled this situation and take that into account the next time you attempt to go to an IndyGT.

He didn't offer to return his money, he TOLD him he was returning his money. There was no reason for Alamo to go off on that customer like he did.

The website says in a couple of places that spots are not guaranteed until paid for

If this is true as well then that could explain the confusion by the OP. Apparently money changed hands so he assumed he was guaranteed a spot.

Ah, yes, excuse my poor choice of words. I certainly did not see that as him going off; it is the written word, so you have to give a little leeway for thoughts and feelings being lost in translation.

Looks like no big deal to me... I think you're reading too far into it, OP. Posting his emails was a bit low, too :-/

It sounds like a lot of frustration and confusion could have been saved on the OPs part by the TO just admitting he hasn't had time to devote to updating how things with the event were progressing (I.e. updating the website to announce that the event has filled and a wait list was starting). As someone that has run medium to large events in the past, I can understand how real life conflicts and the hobby part of it can get overlooked or pushed off for later. However, nothing bothers me more than seeing someone start in about how they're doing things for the love of the hobby (I don't think I've ever met a TO at a wargaming event that doesn't love the hobby), and how they lose money every year. If you're filling up with people paid in advance it can only mean funds aren't being properly budgeted. I don't want to look like I'm picking on the TO (because I really do sympathize with being in the position of having to turn people away, been there myself), but it seems like they were overwhelmed and just couldn't say that.

Sounds like you just didnt pay in time.

Alamo GT ROCKS!!!!!!! i have been there a couple time and the beer is always good

try again next year and this time pay when you register so there is no worries when it gets close to GT start. Alamo always fills up regardless of whether it is fantasy or 40k so plan on there not being room for error and pay when you register.

Strong thread backfire OP

Also posting personal emails back and forth by copy paste - I'd honestly respond harshly if an anon posted a public thread about an event I ran

Seems to me like this was more of a business oriented exchange than a personal one. That's like being mad at someone for posting an email from any other customer service rep.
