Its all down to the weight of them - they are HEAVY! Especially when compared to figures etc!

We have set up discounted shipping for each and every pledge level - and its all on the KS - we have discounted it well below the cheapest unrecorded shipping available for this size/weight (for each pledge level)

I looked through your website which has all the basic KS info on it for those that cannot get to KS. I like the idea, I'm with Pretre that shipping would kill it for me though .

I think it would be cool if someone could do silicone molds where you stuff greenstuff, plaster, resin (probably not that last one) into it and let it set. a silicone mold would allow for someone to make edible bases .

I was totally all for getting one until I saw that I can't. I hope this works so you can A) Get a US distributor, or B) Sell them yourself so US can purchase singles.

Is it affordable to do this for basing? It seems like the amount of greenstuff required might make it rather expensive, even though it's DIY...

You could probably do it with Dental plaster ala Hirst Arts Molds.

i don't understand what you mean bud - i am selling them myself - as i made them! the singles shipping cost was more than the single Basing pad MSRP is - getting 4 or more is the only way to get them shipped without doubling their cost! if it was practical to ship singles we would have done (as loadsa people would be after 1) its just not fair to ask you guys to pay £50 for 1 - so we offer 4 for £92 instead. would people like to see 1 up for £50ish?

also - you mentioned that you cant get them - you have a USA icon on dakka - are you not in the USA?

You can get tons of green stuff on eBay, works out ok cost wise.

And to anyone in the States, Royal Mail are ass hats and decided to extortionately increase their prices for international shipping

I would just like to add that as a US based gamer I was also all about supporting this until I saw the US options.

i didn't say that Mr Royal Mail honest , but yeah - he IS right about RM shipping you know...

The other thing its worth noting is that there is NO add on for shipping these pledges - other heavy KS project's UK to US or US to UK shipping adds serious $£$ to the total needed to be pledged etc ... we don't.

The whole thing is that they're nice, they're just extremely cost prohibitive.

50GBP works out to about 79 US dollars for a single basing pad.

4 for 92GBP is almost 150 US dollars (144). So it immediately goes from something "this is a cool project, I'll back it because I feel like I'm getting my money's worth" to "I reaaaaallly have to decide whether or not 4 resin basing pads is worth the cost of 108 bases of various sizes from Secret Weapon Miniatures".

It's just too expensive for US backers :-\

With that being said, I do hope that your project succeeds, and I do hope that you can get US distributors.

Ah - therin lies the rub as they say - don't think im being grumbley either! cos im not - thanks for the discussion on this - as your ideas help us think things through.... i guess id say that as a gamer looking for bases you need to ask yourself if you want 108 bases (with many many duplicates) from another company for your army, or if you want every base to be unique - and don't forget - they can make much more than 104 bases (so club with yer mates or gaming clubs to get them). i don't know about you but i have more than 108 miniatures in my collection. to be honest i need to actually paint my lot before i let myself get any new stuff or so the missus says also - with these you can do much more than you can with a resin base (see our KS).

I usually don't comment on Kickstarter topics here but this actually does seem like a really good idea. The price for 4 different pads shipped to the USA doesn't seem that bad if I can get 3 of my gaming buddies to split them with me. Do you have any plans to make a "spaceship" type pad? That will be the ultimate selling point for me as I'm planning on basing my army that way to go with my Zone Mortalis board.

YES .... WE...... DO!!!! but its gotta wait as a stretch goal - as we have not completed the master sculpt yet!!! that and a sulacco one, and a steampunky one, and a and a and a... the missus is telling me to shut up here....

I'm gonna keep a close eye on this one it looks ace. It's nice to see US backers commenting on the P&P it's usually me lol! That's why I rarely back projects from the US now!

This actually looks extremely intriguing, although honestly, I think you're shooting yourselves in the foot a bit with the USA/RoW pricing. I know it's bizarre, but I suspect more people would actually be more willing to pledge for one Pad and pay the shipping out of pocket than to go in for four with heavily discounted shipping included in the price.

I'll probably go in for one or two later in the campaign, but I'll second the request for a spaceship/industrial themed Pad - recessed inspection hatches with pipes and suchlike seem like they'd come out very nicely.

I am in the US but to me buying 4 of something I may want 1 of is not ideal for getting something.
I wouldn't mind paying around $50-60US for something like this. I think that not offering the 1 off is silly. Perhaps have a blanket pledge (1-2-3-4 base) levelsand have the shipping tacked on like other kickstarters do?
You can make it so that you don't scare off the few US customers you could get. I find your bases are a TON more detailed that the existing "greenstuff base" examples that have been on kickstarter for the past few weeks.
You could also do things to the sides of the base (if you haven't finalized the molds) for stuff like tire tracks/tank tracks/strafing runs to add just a little extra bang for the money.

I have 4 40k armies, 4 Warmachine/Hordes Armies, every Malifaux Faction (not every mini mind you), and a few armies from smaller games/games that don't use bases like this. Most of those armies are already based and hand done. The Secret Weapon Miniatures bases were an example because the basing pads have a similar feel to some of the SWM bases I was looking at. I was comparing the cost of 4 of those pads to what I could get from another base maker. I'm not saying your stuff might not be worth the price, it's just not worth the price when there are cheaper, quicker alternatives here in the states. I like your product, I just can't afford to drop 150 dollars on 108 bases or 4 basing pads, which is why I wished you the success of getting distribution here in the states, that way it can become affordable.

Since I can't see the Kickstarter page (just going off of your website), how much is a Brit paying for 1 basing pad?

A UK based backer pledges £20 for one pad so probably about $35 (including a bit for CC curreny conversion)
