The board as a whole, due to it being 8 ft long it's hard to see the details but gives a overview of how it looks.

Looking sweet man really really nicely done. Only thing I can pick at would be the amount of charred earth around the Thawk. I would say more scortched earth around it, but that is literally the only flaw I could think of

Another thing, taken from another baord thread, where the squares used for the terrain were interchangable to alter up the game board. Also perhaps some alternate squares with more fortifications? or are they to come? At the moment I dont think those orks are gona enjoy the open field

Favourite Game: When your Warboss on bike wrecks 3 vehicles simply by HoW - especially when his bike is a custom monowheel.

Fear not my friend, fortifications are currently being painted up to go on the board. A Skyshield landing pad, a fortress of redemption and various other bits and pieces. And yeah, the boards are interchangeable, we swapped them around a couple of times to check they matched up near enough.

With regards to the charred earth I do see what you mean. I might lighten that up a little to make it more subtle.

Cheers mate.

Ah phew! looking forward to the forifications! man you make me want to build a table

Yeh an interchangable board is such a useful trick, as imo boards quickly get played in a certain way/style. But in general really loving the work Just realised, its actually quite a large board especially compared to the ones at my FLGS. could get some nice and big ork hordes on that board!

Thanks Solar, and I totally agree that a board needs to be chopped around for variation in tactics.

With regards to the size, yeah.. It's pretty big, 8ftx4ft. I couldn't believe how much the extra 2ft made a difference. When the fortifications are done I will post pics.

Have a look at my battle report thread, a couple of the WIP pieces of terrain can be seen on that. They still need a bit of work, the fortress of redemption isn't in it but has been given it's undercoat.

Hi all, I'm a gaming partner of this project. Drachen and myself have had great fun building this board and have recently had our first battle on it

Solar Shock there is a battle report of our first game on this board in the batrep section "tau vs sons of medusa" you can see some of our scenery on there Although it's not all totally finished it gives a good idea of what we have in mind once it's complete

Change of subject back to the Bad Moon's now, been slow going recently but the meganobz are finally finished.

Could have done more on them, but am eager to start getting the army together.

They look fantastic! So much character , first time I've seen the squad all finished . I love the banners and basses and the yellow looks awesome. I would say I look forward to facing them in battle but that's a scary thought haha!

Great job

Thanks mate, am fairly pleased with them. The rest of the army won't be quite as yellow, wanted these guys (being the richest orks) to stand out.

Next in line!!!!

Couple of pics of the first of 4 boyz squads. The nob has been made using an older metal body and a power fist from the space marine kit.

Hopefully get these done on my next days off work.

Looks absolutely incredible, mate, I would kill to play on that board! I'm not a big Ork guy myself, but I have to admit, those looted rhinos are prime

The next time you do a wreck like the Thunderhawk, might I suggest AK Interactive's chipping fluid? You spray it on prior to painting your basecoat, then go at with a brush afterwards. Leaves a really good scratched/worn appearance, which is perfect for wrecks. It looks great as is, don't get me wrong!

Cheers

Hey Kittens,

Thanks for the comment about the board mate, means a lot to hear that.

That chipping fluid sounds awesome, the Hawk is actually airbrushed. Would it still work when airbrushed over or does it need to be brushed?

Thanks again

Have you tried using weathering powders.

The next stage for the forgeworld panels is to add more foliage to them and to weather them. This is something we wanted to do with all the panels at the same time for ease of using materials etc... Will add more pics once this is done.

Lol, no mate. It's a panel that forgeworld do, I didn't buy a thunderhawk and then smash it up. Although that would be cool.

Oh I figured that out later, I was thinking you were mad, or briliant, to smash a real FW Thunderhawk GS. Will you come build my playing table, and make some Bad Moon Clan for me?! HA! No mates around here with me to sit around and help build terrain, or paint models. Miss those day, now all I have are you guys.

Ok, I see you have updated photos, I love the table! Did you use spray adhesive for the sand? It's perfect!

I had a flat, re-enforced 4 by 8 foot table in the west wing of my old home. I didn't use modular boards which are fantastic, I just had throw cloths for terrain like urban I used gray, and then the terrain would get set down over it.

It has always been my goal to have the entire list of possible "maps" or boards that one can roll up to play a battle on. Still working on that project.

I absolutley think you guys are doing a bang up job! Terrain can really make or break a good game!

Kelly,

Thanks for your kind words.... I laughed when I read your request to come build a table and paint minis with you. I am lucky to have a fairly active and keen gaming community near where I live.

This board is in my outhouse so I can keep it in place all the time which is nice. With regards to how we applied the sand it is as follows:

Board itself given an undercoat
Whole board given a liberal covering of PVA glue
Sand then sprinkled over the board
Allow time to dry fully and shake off any excess
Using dulux paint we painted over the sand to seal it in place
Then we chose a darker shade of dulux paint, watered it down and effectively used it as a wash
Last stage of paint is to 'drybrush' the board once they are completely dry with a lighter shade of the first dulux paint

Seems to give a nice texture and feel to the board.

We will be adding more pics of the terrain pieces as they get finished.

Thanks again for your comments mate.

Hi Drachen mate, I love the Ork Nob with marine power fist!!! It really keeps that looted theme running through the army even into the troops

Great conversion and the boyz look really cool, can't wait to see them.

My plan is to paint the fist still in Ultramarine colours. It should add a nice contrast to the yellow and make the nob stand out from the crowd.

Quick update on my painting of the first boyz unit.

So far it's all been done with an airbrush, just adding layers of yellow, lighter in colour each time. Next step will be an oil wash, then out with the normal brush to finish them off.

Comments as always warmly welcomed.

Thanks

Thanks Ectus,

All paints used were all from the vallejo range, started with the poly undercoat dark yellow, then gave a thin coat of the mole air dark yellow, then a ratio of 3:1 medium yellow and dark yellow. Then to finish just medium yellow.

This should leave a distinct line highlight to pick out the very edges with a lemon type colour from the mole colour range.

When are we gonna see a WIP thread of your Sons?

I'm having some laptop problems at the moment Drachen but I hope to start a thread for my sons of medusa soon

If anyone wants to check them out and see our first battle on this board. Drachen has written up a very cool batrep tau vs sons of medusa in the 40k battle reports section

Had a bit of time to paint some orks, got a lot of the base colours done on the squad but decided to finish one so I could see what the completed boy would look like.

When painting boyz I balance making them look ok, but being aware they are 'cannon fodder' so not to spend too long on them. I have some nob bikers which I will spend more time on.

As always, comments are encorouged and welcomed.
