So anyone have to deal with people who have superiority complexes?

Generally don't like posting about my "first world problems" on the internet, but curious how people deal with them.

I had to deal with them on a frequent basis. Alas I won' t be divulging further information for propriety's sake.

I have... and they're almost all called LT.

There's also an alarming number of people I've dealt with like this whose alma mater is the USMA (aka West Point/ AFA, etc.)

I participate in the YMDC subforum, so clearly I see this kind of behavior on a regular basis.

Honestly, I think this kind of person tends to self-select into wargaming, so it probably isn't that uncommon.

Feed their superiority while inwardly laughing at them utterly.

Or, get an axe and a hockey mask. You'll know what to do.

Pfft, of course I have to deal with it.

I have the pleasure of working for a company run by a mother and daughter team. When I'm not trying to get the daughter off her phone to run the forklift for me like I'm infirm (even with about five years of experience they refuse to trust me...or get me a license), I'm listening to her mother actually get angry with me for being "too much of a perfectionist" when I'm inspecting product to go out the door- especially when it's product where the flaws are her fault.

Gotta love it.

My wife and I have a running joke where she pretends to frisk me for matches when I leave for work.

I don't think of it so much as coping with a superiority complex as being forced to put up with all the people around me's inferiority complexes.

LT learn quick how fast NCO's can screw them over real quick when on the 10% inventory it comes to light that he/she is missing equipment he/she is signed for. Though the "smart" captains will ensure that when the LT Platoon SGT has something of value to say that its best for him/her to "STFU and listen"

Though I will admit what some of you all consider a major F'ing crisis that has a possible world ending situation in your reality is but golden entertainment to me

Best one I've had in 9+ years, whenever the SI inventory rolls around, I am usually the one called on to escort whatever idiot they decide needs to do it... well, on deployment number 2, we had the same LT 3 months in a row... and all 3 months, I had to explain to him each time what each piece of equipment was. The best part about that was that 80% of it was on his personal hand receipt for the platoon

Well most fanboyz seem to have a superiority complex, or they are over compensating for their inferiority complex.

That sounds like what someone who considers themselves superior would say.

Yes, though I think I have been on the other side of this equation as well.

I recently had a personality conflict at work where I was sworn at and accused of having an answer to everything, after I offered a suggestion on how to locate an answer to a questioned posed by one of the VP's.

Sometimes it is just a misunderstanding, I try to be a helpful person, but sometimes help is not desired, and even seen as having a Superiority Complex. Hard habit to break.

Not knowing the situation or the circumstances, who can say.

The easiest way is to bait them into a trap that sets them up for failure. Then you wait until they reach out for help because they know they are failing.

If they ask for help, they have learned. Then you help them in a respectful and professional manner.

If they don't ask for help, you let them fail repeatedly until they ask for help.

Give them enough rope to hang themselves.
Do exactly as told, right until it all goes tits up.
Get everything in writing wherever possible.

Let them take the flak.

Unless they actually are superior - in which case, just do exactly as told

However, firing ordinance at someone isn't nearly as threatening as firing ordnance at someone.

Superiority Complex: An attitude of superiority that conceals actual feelings of inferiority and failure.
That should then fall into the narcissistic personality disorders as well (but more in a case of denial rather than aware).

Raised by one, worked for two of them, have a scary one at my work.

Detection:
Lack of empathy (you do not mean enough to them), frequently interrupts (feels more important), sense of urgency (their time is important, being made to wait is viewed as being a put-down), always has a better story that "trumps" yours (I have better life than you!), only nice if they need something from you, always tries to steer the conversation to about them.

Dealing with them:

"Casual contact":
Reducing contact where possible, minimize giving personal information, keep everything "neutral" so they neither take offence or look at you as a possible source of attention or "narcissistic supply". Never talk about anything of "concern" or "worry"; they like that stuff. Clearly define limits and enforce unrelentingly. Allow some downtime when forced to spend face time with them.

"Relationship" (family, boss, co-worker, employee, spouse):
Same as above but more. Correcting them in anything is pointless: it will only anger them. Document EVERYTHING they will lie to suit them or try to re-write history or remember it how they wish it had gone. If they think you are a "sap' they will feel obligated to stick it to you to show dominance and will point out they were doing you a favor for showing how stupid you are. You really do not matter to them other than a means for attention or some physical gain. They are nosey, never give them a means to casually look at your desk or emails: always lock everything.

"Hostile":
Cut off all means of their contact. Call block, ignore etc. If you bump into them, ignore. They may try something to "get back at you", if you think you have sufficient evidence involve the police (do not give them a chance to try the same to you!). Hopefully if you stick to ignore they will try to do the same back and "cut you off from their greatness" this is the ideal situation. Worst case: you have to sufficiently prove to them you are more scary than they are and give clear rules of what they are to do if you were to back off.

Summary:
Got no time for these people, life is so much nicer without them.
Happiest time in my life excluding these people from me, tends to get them upset (they do the dumping!) when I figure them out and "drop them".

A revolution is an idea which has found its bayonets.

Talizvar has summed it up pretty well. Where possible - just get rid. Where not possible - well - if I had to sum it up in one line, it would be "don't feed the troll".
The approach of documenting *EVERYTHING* is a good approach to working relationships in any respect, because superiority complex or not, there is always someone who does document things willing to take advantage of those who do not. For proof, look at the fact that divorce lawyer exists as a career choice...
