Love the new freebie! Any chance of kill markings? That's useful for almost any vehicle
Also, I hope we can at least put "preferred freebie" in the survey, so at least it's possible to get the one we like best (even if not guaranteed).

Hey guys.
sorry got not getting back to you sooner, as you cam imagine i have been pretty busy
Ouze wrote:These are kind of expensive but they seem so nice I don't think I can resist.
nope, couldn't resist.
Glad you are on board. i will just point out again that each sheet will do approx 3-4 28mm vehicles.
also i'll mention that something similar to your avatar will hopefully make an appearance
RiTides wrote:.................
But it sounds like there is a lot of demand for at least one sheet of smaller designs (hello, hexocam!). So... a good stretch goal, perhaps as it also broadens the appeal. I wouldn't think you could do a lot of the designs in a smaller size, but just doing one would be nice
Also, are you really going to randomize the freebie for the lower pledge levels (who aren't getting all of them, if multiple ones are unlocked), rather than letting folks pick their freebie? It'd be nice to pick
For 10mm, I am going to do some tests to see what works. Some people have been talking about using the Hexo Cam with that, but i worry when you go that small it may end up looking like circles from a normal gaming table distance. But we shall see, the tests shall answer that.
the other issue is it may take AGES to cut a whole sheet, so i dont know if i can do them at the same price/size. but anyway, untill i do some tests its all guesswork, so you'll have to wait and see
Freebies. the plan with the freebies is (as mentioned on the KS) to combine them onto 1 sheet.
This is purely to save time sorting and packing, if you can choose them at 3's company, I wouldnt be able to do that. If i had to add a whole new amount of work to the making/sorting/packing, i might have to do less freeebies total.
Azazelx wrote:Looks great. I went down for 10. If I could make a suggestion, please add photos of the sheets that aren't yet displayed on the KS page. Digital #1 for example (and how does it differ from #2?)
Also, skull mesh doesn't appear to be one offered yet? Stretch goal?
great! thanks for your support
for the Digi, it isnt so much number 2, but more "size 2". what that means (and its mainly just to help differentiate the designs as we plan other sizes for digi) is that the shortest side dimension of any digi is 2mm, hence the 2. i just got it in my head 2mm digicam might confuse things, maybe i'm wrong, heh.
oh, and Skull mesh was a typo, as in in typed delete at some point by mistake, heh. it is a starting design and up now.
cheers,
Brian

Clang wrote:The hex and digi camo designs look super useful. I too would like to see those same designs also in a smaller scale - not only to make them useful for small scale vehicles, but just maybe they'd also work e.g. on 28mm infantry, especially armoured figures?
Things like dragon scales or the suggested flames seem rather niche interest - ideal for a one-off project, but otherwise hard to justify the cost.
Skull mesh just seems silly, IMHO.
As mentioned in my lest message (and again sorry for the delay in answering) i'm going to look at smaller scales.
Some designs are indeed a little more specialised, and so will only appeal to some people. The plan is to try and have something for everyone, with both niche and more general designs.
I know at least 1 guy backed becuase i told him flames are coming, and at least 5 people say the skulls are their favourite, and these are just the ones i know of.
I am personally very glad that different people have different opinions, otherwise we'd all be buying/painting/gaming the same armies, which lets face it, would be pretty dull

RiTides wrote:Love the new freebie! Any chance of kill markings? That's useful for almost any vehicle

glad you like it. my thinking with the freebies is they will be mostly small things to add a little flavour but who knows where we will go with it, i mean its not even 24hours old yet, lol.
as for kill markings, thats on the list. But what would you think the markings should be? i have a few ideas, but i'd like to hear yours.

i dont think detail on the model is a problem, but some designs may work well on DZC.
hmmm, feathers. do you mean wings? or what are you thinking?
Yes, wings would be exactly the sort of thing, but perhaps in layers of different sizes, so you have smaller ones for the initial layers working up to larger ones for the primary feathers, also allowing for different sizes of wing in different areas.
The big drawback I could see is that they wouldn't tessellate well, so perhaps wouldn't be a practical or efficient use of space. It isn't really even a finished thought, but it is something I have done on models before (chiefly on the wings of a 40K Stormraven) and had to make my own mask, which was a p in the a, so I thought I'd throw it out there for your consideration.

Just went in for 10 of these, they look good. Nice price compared to other stencils I've seen too, for the quantity and semi re-usability. Like RiTides, I have some Dreamforge begging for some camo! Kill markings would be a great freebie.

Hmmm, suggestions on kill markings? Just roman numeral I's with a five roman numeral with the slash through it, as well? Perhaps X's, or small skulls? Or all of them since you only need a few of each if you re-use (and simply spray a skull red to represent 5 kills, for example) and they'll be popular. I'll think more on it
Thanks for all the replies! For myself, the skull camo could look great with just a few used here and there, you don't have to plaster the side with them.

Camo stencils for 28mm troops would be great, I'd definitely add a couple of those, especially digital camo. Troop scale-wise for freebies, the tribal marking thing could make some good tattoos for minis but would probably be pretty hard to pull off on that small a scale. and again with kill markings, what do you think they should be?
The tank one you did is great. Another option would be both dirty and clean tallies (ie. chalky lines vs crisp lines) or a neutral (pref. useable for modern through sci-fi) air kills marker. Perhaps the design could be a mechanical, feathered or bat wing but the tallies would probably be best.

You could say the same for the US States one, but more so. I could see the Skull Mesh working well for Chaos Cultist/Renegade Guard vehicles. That was my first thought when I saw it. (though not in the camo shades used to illustrate it).

I agree with the "tallies" idea. Another one could be any kind of unit marking- a claw, the head of a falcon, a bomb with teeth. You can go crazy with it

stencils for camo for 28mm troops would be TINY. when you get that small, there is a good chance it wont cut properly, but they would also be very hard to use.
maybe for guys in huge armour, but i dont think so for cloth wearing infantry)
the same goes with the tribals for tattos, but, they might work if it was 1 big tribal covering most of an arm.
On an ogre sized model though, that would be cool.

I have a suggestion for one of your freebies although not sure how feasible it could be but anyway; checkered strips of varying sizes for the ork players out there (and some SM Chapters!), maybe the dog tooth design as well, should be useful for orky vehicles and aircraft
well done BTW on getting funded so soon!

Some nice and versatile things coming which is great. Looking forward to seeing the tiger strike camo, a google gave some nice designs that I can see working well. I can use all 3 images in that pic you linked for various things. Hotrod flames could be great. I'm assuming it's targeted more towards cars but flames can be equally applicable in tabletop wargaming vehicles if they're suitable. I've seen some tutorials for doing flames with templates, but they've never seemed quite right to me. Brother is keen on me using some of this stuff on his $1K RC which still has a boring stock body much to his distress.

Thanks Yonan. my plan is to try and have a wide range of stuff so there is something for everyone. some people may not like some of the more "fun" designs, but then thats to be expected.
The hotrod flames are just in that style, i have tried them on a tank and they look great
And yes, many designs could be used on his RC Car. Later in the campaign i plan to add an option to enlarge the normal designs, so that may be more to your brothers liking (i am assuming his RC car is much bigger than what we are normally used to on Dakka)

Hey guys.
Quite a few of you have been eager to see some smaller scale stencils added to the campaign, here are the first 2 test paints, the Mini Digi Camo and Mini Hexo Cam.
The yellow tanks are 15mm scale, the grey ones are 10mm.
Obvioulsy these could be used on whatever scale you think they will work on, I'm going to use them on smaller size 28mm vehicles and mech's.
I would love to hear your thoughts.

Wow, it looks fantastic with the DigiCam on the grey tank in particular (lower left image). Emailing my Dropzone Commander playing friends Right Now
Edit: Are these unlocked already, or will they have to be stretched for? I am really stoked by the hexocam one... I likely will get it in the smaller size now, if available, since I want to paint my Dropzone Commander models first anyway. And if that works well, I'd buy the 28mm ones later when I get to that project.

Thanks and yes, there will be plenty more cool stuff to come.
As for adding more, there is already the option (mentioned on the main page to add additional sheets to you pledge for £8 per sheet.
HOWEVER, for the higher level pledges such as yourself ( especially as you have an EB ) this does not look like much of a deal, so i will be adding higher pledge amounts for more units.
I have not decided on numbers yet, but it may be something like 20, 35 and 50 (yes i have had a guy wanting 50 ) with a similar increasing discout as before.
So watch this space for those, i just want to get up some more painted pics to replace some of the concepts today.
Just remember that at no point (with pledge and any addon units) and you order more then 10 of any single design ( I'll point out here that different sized stencils are different products) during the kickstarter.
After the kickstarter, you can buy from my web site, and order as many as you like, its just KS rules say no more then 10 of a single item.
JoshInJapan wrote:Well, heck. I had sworn off kickstarters for the rest of the year, but the mini camo stencils will work too well with Paulson's Mecha Front models to pass up. At least it's not more miniatures...
Heh, sorry to have broken your vowe, but then somehting that helps you paint all your other KS stuff cant be bad
I see you have a KS sig pic, maybe i need to make my own.
Clang wrote:Mini Digi Camo and Mini Hexo Camo both look great. I'd love to see some pics of them used on Space Marine or similar 28mm armoured infantry - I suspect they'd look great there too.
Thanks Clang.
on a normal Heroic 28mm armoured infantry, they will probably be a little big, on larger armoured infantry, they should work nicely.
