Hi,
seems the times of cost-free GW content is nearing its end. GW is starting a fee-based series of micro-releases with one-unit-tactica, starting with Wraithknights in October:
http://www.blacklibrary.com/games-workshop-digital-editions/Tactica-eldarWraithknights.html
Games Workshop wrote:Even the lowliest units that fight on the battlefields of the 41st Millennium have the potential to achieve great deeds if they are properly employed; in the case of more powerful units, the capacity for making a game-winning impact is even greater. Each Tactica in this series provides expert guidance on using a specific unit in the most effective way possible on the tabletop, with advice ranging from the most efficient weapon configurations and optional upgrades to practical tips on target priority and how best to combine its efforts with other friendly units. Each Tactica also contains full rules for using your unit in games of Warhammer 40,000.

I appreciate how they spend so much space describing the unit's statline.
I wonder how horrible the 'tactical advice' itself will be.

Gotta pad out the page count somehow. Else how will purchasers get value for their money?

Another nail in the coffin of White Dwarf. I remember reading a Chaos Space Marines tactica by Christian Byne in WD that was actually pretty insightful and geared towards semi-competitive play rather than just 'the new expensive model we've just brought out is awesome, you should take 3, or even better, buy more models to take it up to 2000 points then you can take 6!'
Perhaps in the future they will charge for the bland and insight free battle reports in WD. Ever noticed that if the new great model performs badly in a battle report then the other GW drones commenting bang on about how good it would have been if it hadn't been blown up in the first turn?
If you can't work out the benefits of units yourself without spending money then you deserve this tactica.

So basically WD will never feature any content again bar pictures? All the old 'articles' are now sold separately? Tactcas and extra Apoc formations all now available on the ibook shelf thingy for our convenience (for a small {not small} consideration), thanks GW.

In all the time I've been in and out of the hobby, it's been the fan made tactica that have been useful. Anything from GW has never been insightful. And now they are going to charge? If works then more power to them. Not from me though.

Is this truly news considering the first Tactica article (Space Marine Heroes) for sale was released and has been available for sale on iTunes since July?
More importantly, is the Tactica available in German!??

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

If I'm not mistaken there was a short tactical bulletpoint either in WD or GWs website from one of the developers when the Storm Raven came out, it was something similar to this:
"The new Storm Raven has room for 10 Tactical Marines. You can fly up the Storm Raven, disembark the Tactical Marines next to your opponents miniatures and rapid fire their bolters!"
Yeah, cause that's what you'd use a Storm Raven for...

This is great news! Now you will no longer have to get your strategy advice from third-party blogs and forums, you can get it directly from GW! As a side bonus we will also fix the fact that you keep winning all of your games, once you are equipped with our new "wisdom" you can concentrate on forging a cinematic narrative instead of trying to win! And just to make things even more awesome, now that you have spent money on this advice instead of getting it for free you will buy fewer models to add to your painting to-do list!

They are working towards changing a subscription service for their website. They've already worked out how to get people to pay for their advertising brochure, next step is to charge people to use their website. Hell, they even got people to pay double for the codex because it had a different cover.
I'm sure a local print shop could print off a quality customised sleeve for a regular codex for a fraction of the price.

no it's not.
Bundling together some 'tactical insights' doesn't mean gw are going to shut down tactica websites, especially when said tactica websites already host scanned rulebooks and leaked images - both of which would allow gw to shut it anyway.
