So i was thinking for my 1,500pt army, since I can only bring one given the amount of points (and even then i'm skimping on a little bit) what would be better;

a 6 man squad of bikers with two melta guns and a combi-melta Or a 3 attack bike squadron with 2 multi-melta and one heavy bolter? They both have the same amount of wounds, but one has longer range while the other is scouring in a biker army...

The 6 man bike squad. You can lose 3 wounds before you lose a special weapon with proper positioning. the attack bikes can only lose 1 wound before a weapon is lost.

Multimeltas bikes. The extra 12 inches of range is a huge difference. And it's two unsaved wounds before losing a weapon for attack bike squadrons

No, you lose 2 wounds and a weapon is gone.

With regular bikes, its 4 wounds to lose 1 weapon.

That's what I just said. Two unsaved wounds in an attack bike squadron. A regular bike squad could theoretically sustain three unsaved wounds without losing one but the shorter range on meltas normally means you are leading with only one or two spare bodies.

I think we have a difference in verbage.

I always think of how many wounds I can take and still function fully.

I can suffer 3 unsaved wounds on that 6 man bike squad before losing a weapon. I can only suffer 1 on the attack bikes.

Anyway, the range difference shouldn't be a problem because of the speed at which bikes can move.

Yes, you guys are agreeing, just phrasing it in different ways. (It's like watching two people have the "this Friday/next Friday" debate. )

Depends on what you want them for. Dedicated monstrous creature hunting? Bike squad. Dedicated tank hunters? Assault bikes. Dedicated TEQ hunters? Bike squad again.

Why not take 3 bikes with two meltas and a combi melta and a MM attack bike? Thats the most AT you can get in a squad like that, only issue would be different ranges but you've got plenty of movement

If you're not using your fast attack slots and/or don't have troop bikes, MM attack bike squads are a good buy. A little more expensive in this book, but still damn good.

The max strength attack bike squad can suffer up to 3 wounds without losing a weapon by spreading out the hits through switching which bike is being hit and swapping each time a wound is suffered.

Only if the shooting is originating from a different location and a different turn.

Its unlikely you will be able to pull that off.

I find the multimelta to be a much better weapon than the meltagun, however. Bikes don't move THAT fast.
