Poll
How many transport slots is a Thunderfire cannon considered to be when embarked on a drop pod? (A HWIPI Poll)
I would play it as the TFC taking up one space just like any other infantry model.
I would play it as if the TFC had the Bulky Rule.
I would play it as if the TFC had the Very Bulky Rule.
How ever my opponent/TO or tournament pack wanted to/said to play it.
Other/ Something else (Please describe below and note
I did not read the thread but I am voting anyway.

This is for How you would play it, if you want to get into RAW, that is fine, but please specify you are talking about RAW as a header for your text that discusses RAW. Thanks.

How many transport slots is a Thunderfire cannon considered to be when embarked on a drop pod?

It is just one model so would you play it as one slot, the gunner another slot and the able to fill the rest of the space with IC's?

would you play it as one space, bulky, very bulky etc.?

Poll created, let me know How you would play it.

I'd personally play it as if the cannon was extremly bulky (counts as 5) due to the size of it and the physical space it'd leave inside the pod.
But once again GW dropped the ball ...

I voted other.
Per the Drop Pod's own rules:

Transport Capacity:
• Ten models, one Dreadnought or one Thunderfire Cannon and Techmarine Gunner

While not the TFC has no "bully, very bulky" designation, the Drop Pod can only carry 1 TFC + 1 Gunner according to its Transport Capacity.

Actually I'll agree with that, that'd make the cannon itself worth 9 models ...

This doesn't seem like a question that is up for debate or that would require a poll. Surprisingly for GWS, the rules are quite unambiguous in this regard.

Agreed, I will review the rule when I get back to my library but it seems straight forward: 9 Slots!

I'm just curious, but how is there even a debate given the clarity of the drop pods own rules? What am I missing?

I voted "Other" simply because HIWPI (and how I do play it), the TFC + Techmarine takes up the entire Drop Pod and no other models may embark.

RAW - Seems to be it takes up one space as there is no other rule attached to it to say otherwise (bulky/v. bulky, limitations, etc).

Ah, I knew there was a reason this was HIWPI, I just completely forgot about the DP's own specific rules!!

because IC's can join units, and there is space for 10 models in a drop pod.

There is space for ten models, OR 1 dreadnought, OR 1 thunderfire cannon and techmarine gunner. You do not get the space for ten models if you embark a Thunderfire Cannon and thus have no capacity to carry ICs.

Yup, the rules are very clear here. The tfc and gunner take up the entire pod.

The real question: how does the cannon fit in the pod? I mean, do they remove that center console or what? And who lifts it back out once it lands, the techmarine? Because, servo harness or not, that looks really heavy.

Yeah I play by the clear rules. Why is this even a question?

Yes my Colour is Black but not for the reasons stated mainly just because it's slimming... http://imperiusdominatus.blogspot.com

Same problem for a dreadnought, really...

Hell, for that matter, how do 10 power armoured marines fit in there???

There are 10 harnesses in the normal pod.

40k-noob got it. "One Thunderfire Cannon and one Techmarine Gunner" is it's own amount, and that's what I think it's restricted to if you stick a TFC in it.

I'm thinking there's a rule not allowing ic's to join artillery somewheres in the rule book

You're thinking wrong.

I would advise to read the artillery rules before you join an IC to them. Not that it isn't legal to do so, but there are certain artillery rules which are limited to the 'crew' that begin the game with said piece. One needs to keep in mind what these rules are, and honestly I have not done so because I do not have any artillery pieces in my army, but certain limitations are in place that need to be respected by any attached independent character.

The only limitation is that the IC can't fire or move the gun. And?

And what?

My post was just to keep these rules in mind, because if you don't then you end up with certain shenanigans. For example; a Tau commander with a Velocity Tracker picking up an elder artillery piece in order to shoot down a flyer. Even without that sort of situation, a lot of the time you might want to get the Independent character joined in order to fire the main guns at a higher ballistic score. Those rules prevent you from being able to actually do so, so they should be recognized.
