Cab farsight be chosen as an ally and still take his big body guard team or does he have to be the warlord to be able to ? This is Farsight from the suppliment

Doesn't it rely on Farsight being the warlord? Then you can't.
Do you have the supplement or are you asking out of curiosity?

Originally, yes. But, after an update to the rules Farsight is required to be the Warlord in a Farsight Enclaves Army to gain access to his Commander Team, so No.

Zagman thanks. Was this a dirrect update to the digital version or faq ? Also does it apply to the normal Tau codex farsight as well ?

As i read the tau dex , farsight can take the 7 suits as bodyguards and not be the warlord. However i dont have the suppliment farsight and the question came to me today.

Direct update. There are no such limitations on C:TE Farsight. They are the same barring the additional Commander Team.
