Very cool. Best of luck!

insaniak - Thanks! Sorry to hear you don't think its robust enough. But from what i have seen in the prototyping, quality 2mm high density board, laminated and sealed stands up pretty well when stored properly.

Ma55ter_fett - Thanks! And thanks for the vote of confidence! 'WHEN they retail'. Much appreciated!

If you do an infinity themed board, I'd like to point out that infinity is a clean future (mostly) and its absolutely important that there are hexagons, lots of hexagons kerbs could be represented by neon lines.

I'm definitely using the space corridors for boarding actions in infinity, with doors and scatter terrain. Possibly creating airlocks to dump offending TO camo troops into space.

I think people would very VERY receptive. I know that if I were to pledge right now, it would be for Choice 1 because I like the cityscape layout, and Choice 3 because it would give me the most variation of cityscape on a 3x4 board when added to Choice 1.

I have to wait until at least halfway through the campaign to think about funds, but if a pledge goal came available for a double side cityscape, I would get Choice 3 and that.

Honestly I have no interest is board tiles. If I had the room for a permanent setup, I'd want fully modeled roads and curbs not print-outs.

But it does seem very innovative, and I'm sure many will go in for this,

6'x4' Early birds are all gone! Might be worth adding a "Later Early Bird" at 68 pounds (maybe limited to 25). I've seen those work well, and as that is clearly going to be the really popular pledge level, might as well incentivize more people hopping on there since it sold out day 1

Intriguing. If a 6-10mm scale option came up I'd be tempted, as it looks like Robotech Tactics will be our next big game.

It'll take some serious pondering to justify the cost ($140 Canadian with S&H), but this is definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Sounds very cool...excellent graphics.

A few questions;

1 - What is "board". I assume that is some kind of chipboard or heavy cardstock? Or picture frame matting?

2 - Do you have a protoype of the physcial board unfolded on a table to give good pictures of? Mainly, how flat is this thing?

I have used cardboard folded maps before (from old battletech to the newer d&d ones) and many times they just don't unfold very flat (necessary due to beeding to compensate for thickness in multiple folds).

How flat are these?

Finally, since your art is so good, have you considered offering them just printed as maps? Or on vinyl? etc.

I applaud your creativity and entrepreneurial spirit, and hope this goes well!!

Update #3 · Sep 23, 2013 · comment
Just added in a new reward at £69 as the early birds sold out before the end of day one. This reward level is limited to 50 backers and there won't be another reward added in at this level again. So grab em while you can!

Nice . And actually, now that I've thought about it, a board that had sci-fi on one side, and fantasy / a landscape on the other would've been a good idea for versatility, too. But I think I prefer cityscape on both sides so that there is more variable layouts possible

1) Will this be a limited Kickstarter run, or will you continue to produce boards after the Kickstarter if it is successful?

2) What are the dimensions of the roads on the cityscape board? I want to know if my miniatures will fit on the roads (e.g. a 40k Rhino and/or Landraider). Ideally the roads would be big enough for two rhinos side by side, or 1 Landraider. Maybe some of the "side alleys" are only 1 Rhino wide. Something like that.

3) What about an option for cityscape on one side and a grassy/wasteland on the other instead of the corridors?

You stole my idea!

I was thinking .. "ya know, with all these board game boards I've been researching, wouldn't it be cool if someone made printed wargame boards that you could fold up real easy."

These look great .. probably won't be able to back since funds are too tight right now but if I can I will

Great minds think alike . I'd be torn between a double-sided cityscape and this, but I would prefer either option over the corridors on the back.

That's pretty good. Just big enough for 2 rhino's side by side or a Landraider on the small. I would be totally happy with a second city set on the back instead of the corridors, either as a second map or (preferably) one that can be interchanged so that you can flip the tiles around and create a new map every time.

Will the 4 board carrying case be included in the 4 board pledge option, or will it be additional? Assuming it hits the stretch goal.

It looks like it would be rather hellish to drive on those streets. But, you know, in the future maybe vehicles handle better.

Fine idea though. My concern would be the boards having a tendency to slide around during play. One might have to lay down some non-skid liner underneath the boards, or use some heavy terrain or something.

Whoa! I leave the thread alone for half a day and theres almost a new page of posts! Thanks to everyone for there interest, its all seam to be be pretty positive thus far. We're at just and i mean 'just' over the half way point now and pledges are starting to slow down. So keep on passing the word around!

Ill try to cover all the points and questions as precisely and concisely as i can, but i'm going to have a meeting with the manufacturer very shortly, so this may be posted later than i had planned.

- So far i have had a lot of feed back about the possible 2nd corridors design for the 2nd side of option 2. Its looking like an overwhelming number of people would like to see it replaced with a grassy battlefield.

- 6 and 15mm scale cityscapes options have also had a fare mention, so i think they will have to be moved up the priorities list. Maybe a specific board for those types?

- Thanks to RiTides great idea i have introduced a 'the second mouse' reward to entice more backers. For £69 you get 4 boards of your choice and cases, it also includes UK shipping, international is at an additional £13.

- Just to reiterate the boards make up. Both board and case are made from dense 2mm board laminated with the prints and sealed with a silk/mat finish.

- I do currently have a prototype but this was cut by hand so i am loath to post pics as it is not the quality i would like. But i can confirm that it sits perfectly flat with little to no movement on an mdf table.

Right, the manufacturer has just arrived so i'm off for a meeting. I will post back soon if possible!

With the base goal, you're having 3 different designs of boards printed, right?

Currently listed as:

Board 1- Front: Cityscape 1, Back: Corridors 1
Board 2- Front: Cityscape 2, Back: Corridors 2
Board 3- Front: Cityscape 3, Back: Cityscape 4

The problem with making "Corridors 2" into a Grassy battlefield, is that then you won't be able to use the other side of that board easily, as you'd have four duplicate Cityscape 2 boards.

My thought is that you need to replace both Corridor 1 and Corridor 2 with a Grassy battlefield, if you were to go that route. Just replacing one doesn't leave either theme enough options to work... imo, of course!

Edit: I think it'd be ideal to have 4 board designs to work with, instead of 3. Then the 4th board could either be grassy on the front and back or, which I think would be more useful to more gamers, simply have each of the 4 boards have cityscape on one side, and grassy on the other. Ultimate versatility! Perhaps this could be one of the very first stretch goals, as it might be even more useful than the 4-board box (it's a toss-up to me, but those are definitely the two highest priorities I would think).

Also, when I and others say "grassy" I think they just mean "non-sci-fi compatible"... not necessarily green fields

What are you using the corridors for, Bolognesus?

And I'm not necessarily against them, I just don't think you can get away with 1 corridors and 1 grassy. You need 2 variants to make any theme worth doing, imo.

Well boys and girls, Just had a great meeting with the manufacturer.

Between us we have managed to figure out a way of printing a much wider varieaty of designs without significant cost increase, and no increase to backers!

I need to map it out properly, but its looking like will will ba able to offer:

city 1 / city 4
city 2 / city 3

city 1 / corridors 1
city 2 / corridors 2

city 3 / battlefield 1
city 4 / battlefield 2

With the option of not only adding extra variety as stretch goals, but also an additional set of board types. Battlefields and something else. The process of mapping out the prints/cuts is a bit complex to explain, but the long and short is, design must be kept as pairs on one sheet and these sheets can be flipped but not mirrored (as there must be a leading edge to maintain the continuity between boards)

But wait, theres more! What about a box that can carry 4 boards i hear you ask. Got that sorted too, price to be set in stone but a correx box with handle which can fit 4 boards including the individual cases should come out at £5!

And finally, to drop a little weight but maintain quality the cases will be made from coated e flute cardboard.

Hows that for good news!?

back to some other Q's

- if all goes well and there is a proven demand, i will of course be looking to pitch the product to retailers.

- boards would only slide about if the surface were excessively slipy, like a marble work top. But i will look into adding a slight texture to the finish to make sure.

Hope that helps!

Shadeglass Maze

Wow, that is fantastic news!!

In that case, I might go for these 4

city 1 / corridors 1
city 2 / corridors 2

city 3 / battlefield 1
city 4 / battlefield 2

As long as "battlefield" doesn't have sci-fi elements (can have all sorts of other features, though).

I'll also add on the £5 for the 4-board carry case if it ends up being that. Although it sounds like they'll work fine in their own cases, and I guess if you were getting the 4-board case you wouldn't need the individual ones...

The only thing that has me torn now is that it doesn't look like I'd be able to get a full battlefield (i.e. it would only be 3'x4'). Would've loved to have battlefield 1 & 2 on the back of cityscapes 1 & 2, if the double-sided cityscapes are just repeats anyway. But I am still pretty ecstatic about this

Edit: For the record, that would be this:

city 1 / city 4 battlefield 1
city 2 / city 3 battlefield 2

city 1 / corridors 1
city 2 / corridors 2

city 3 / battlefield 1
city 4 / battlefield 2

Maybe take a poll and see which the backers would prefer?

RiTide - Job done. Just mapped it out and added it to the kickstarter update.

city 1 / city 4

city 2 / city 3

city 1 / corridors 1

city 2 / corridors 2

city 1 / battlefield 1

city 2 / battlefield 2

city 3 / battlefield 1

city 4 / battlefield 2

with additional options for a stretch goal set.

Spyguyyoda - Thanks! glad to be of service!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Ironicsilence - I'm there with you, its up on the kickstarter as a possible stretch goal. But unfortunately you are one of the one people to mention it so far. A reduced scale board with grass battlefield on the reverse seems to be the most asked for option.

I'd be up for a fantasy / Victorian themed board as well - perfect for Malifaux / Empire of the Dead / zombie games etc. I bet if you posted on the Infinity forum you would get backers for that style board, Malifaux forum for those style boards etc. Dakka can be a bit GW centric.
