8th edition WHFB is pretty good, and so are the LotR/Hobbit Rules, though it's damn annoying how important fight is.
Fight value in LOTR important?Actually these days lower fight is better:you lose nothing from feint and flails.

Space Hulk 1st Edition.

WFRP 1st Edition was also a lot of fun. Not strictly balanced, but that's not so vital in an RPG, anyway.

I would vote for Blood Bowl as its the GW game I have played for the longest time and STILL enjoy playing .(15 years on and off.)

I think it's very telling that specialist games are getting mentioned so much.

BFG would have been my #1 if Babylon 5 had never been released. B5: ACTA was literally just BFG changed enough that GW couldn't charge Mongoose with plagiarism. I LOVED playing BFG, but B5 improved on it in every single aspect to the point that I never had the desire to go back to BFG.

Mordheim is still one of my favorite games of all time. It was extremely unbalanced, it got even MORE unbalanced as you gained experience, and I loved every single moment of it. even when I was tearing my hair out and literally throwing models across my living room for permanently dying. Again. For the 4th time. The very game they finally got the skills I needed for them, for the 4th time. Yeah.

And of course Epic: Armageddon. I've heard 2nd ed is better, but man, it would have replaced 40k completely for me if I just could have gotten more people to agree. The amount of tactical depth was just fantastic, having to balance killing with holding objectives with completing certain criteria. A lot of it became victory conditions in 5th and 6th 40k like first blood and line breaker and such, but Epic just did it so much better. Relatively simple rules with tons of options that made you really consider between staying put and shooting with a bonus or moving more with a penalty or charging into deadly assaults. The very definition of what streamlined games SHOULD be: easy mechanics requiring complex decisions.

I had a lot of fun with 3rd/4th 40k and 6th WHFB, but nowhere near as much as with Specialist Games

That pretty much matches my feeling as well - I still run a Mordheim campaign, and am still enjoying the heck out of that game.

Mordheim has always seemed to me to be the perfect gateway drug for WHFB.

The reason I bought rules and became a real wargamer was because I wanted a properly thought out structure to govern the action instead of just making things up as I went along.

I've been playing tabletop wargames since 1988. Out of all the GW rules sets, my favorite one was Mordheim. Currently, I enjoy WHFB 8th ed., but I'm not happy with how hard they beat my Daemons with the nerf-hammer in the most recent army book. I'm waiting to see what they do with Dwarfs, as that was my first and favorite army; I haven't enjoyed playing Dwarfs ever since the Slayer army list stopped being an option. That was a really cool mix of effective army with really interesting fluff.

My enjoyment of 40K has been decreasing for 3 editions now. I haven't played a game of 40k at all in 2013.

GW used to do a lot of really good games that they don't support anymore. Modheim & Necromunda, Blood Bowl, Dark Future, I'm pretty sure that the original Talisman was theirs, Dungeon Quest, etc.

As far as my current interests in tabletop games, GW games have largely been replaced by a variety of other skirmish game systems.
