Good afternoon DakkaDakka,

The subject of this thread is my question to you; the main point here is that it states for bikes & jetbikes that they CANNOT run, which is what is specifically prohibited under the rules for moving the relic. So, can you turbo-boost with the relic?

You can but you can't move more than 6".

After Turbo Boosting, would they be able to use their JSJ in the Assault Phase to go up to 6" again? This would make Eldar Jetbikes the go-to scoring unit for this game type...

Wow, really? Hrm... that's pretty awesome, as now I have another use for my Windrider allies. 18" with the Relic in a single turn is boss.

My Dark Eldar with Eldar allies just got better at scoring

I dont think the relic itself is allowed to be moved more then 6". I dont have my rulebook to confirm right now but i think to disallow this type of advantage they made it so the relic gets dropped after 6".

the Relic may only move 6" per phase. read the rules.

So you can move 6" in the movement phase, 6 " in the shooting phase, and if you are a jetpack infintry you can thrust another 6"? that makes any jetpack unit the go to unit for this kind of game and makes warp spiders potentially better then any unit in the game for capturing a relic.

It is the main reason the Relic mission type is one of the most ill balanced and disposed of all the basic rule book missions. A handful of units, sadly many in my desired army, find it far to easy to simply out-lap anyone trying to catch up with them. The only answer is to put a lot of fire down range and hope you slow/kill them enough for your own people to close the distance.

with the warp spiders jump packs moving 2d6 per phase even if you get higher then 6" you can just move 6" and lose the rest of the movement. It makes it extremely easy for a unit like this to max out its 6" every phase.

Incorrect I'm afraid. After turbo-boosting you are not allowed to "shoot, charge or execute any other voluntary action for the rest of the turn" (BRB, page 45)

only a scoring unit can pick it up? or only a scoring unit can score it at the end of the game? I see warp spiders deepstriking in, grabbing it and jumping all the way back to my squad of 10 wraithblades sitting in cover with a spiritseer in the army getting buffed by warlocks, farseers, and spiritseer while my heavy weapons ping away at anything that gets too close to my scoring guys and even then they are a tough troop to chew through.

I thought it made more then just troop choices scoring, but I will have to double check that. Also will need to look into the possibility of it being carried by non-scoring, as it was much discussed in the past how jump-pack units have such an upper hand, so maybe I am over looking something there. In any case, there are a few armies that can take certain elite units as troop choices that come with jet-pack or jet-bikes and other movement related war-gear. One in particular comes to mind; the far-sight enclave armies might consist of nothing but jump pack units!

Only a scoring model or unit can pick up the Relic and only at the end of a movement phase. So even running or turbo-boosting onto the Relic is not enough to claim it.

Why the obsession with using Warp Spiders to move the Relic. They can only move it 12" max - same as a guardian Jetbikes squad but less reliably.

Furthermore, the only way for a model with a Warp Jump Generator to pick up the relic, i if it is on an Autarch, and you get the Immovable Object warlord trait. As of right now, there are no ways (in normal games) to make Warp Spiders scoring.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Two that I can think of.
Eldar Corsairs (IA11) - their version of Guardians can take Jetpacks.
Farsight Enclave - Crisis units are Troops.

I don't think any other army has Jetpack models (Eldar and Daemons do but they are FA).

Farther. Move 6", run (use jump packs) 6" and then because warp spiders are jetpack infintry they can do a manuvering thrust during the assault phase for another up to 6" (another chance to use their jump packs).

Except you cannot Run with the relic.

Tau also have drones in fast attack.

Thinking about it, if you detach drones from a Fire Warrior Devilfish they become a new unit. As they were part of a troops choice, do they become a troops unit and are therefore eligible to become scoring? The drone rules specifically rule out the new unit from giving up victory points, but don't say anything about scoring.

I left out Tau as they have always had Jetpack models. Even when there was no such thing as Jetpack Infantry.

All drones are non-scoring, non-denial.

So basically the most any model currently in the game can move the relic is 12" a turn.

Can you move to the relic, grab it and continue to move but no more then 6" while the relic is on hand?

No - you can't grab the relic until the end of your movement.
