Which is annoying, I'm gonna have to be figuring out which of the saved alpha worlds is my character's base now, I have them still saved but meh!
Oh! They deleted the players? Bah.
If you want a quick way to find your single player world:
Right click the game in the list in Steam, select Properties
On the "local files" tab, click "Browse local files"
In the Starbound game folder, open the "universe" folder
Check for the world file with the largest size (most likely to be your homeworld if you've built a lot or explored a lot) and/or most recent modify date (if you were last on that world most recently)
Note the filename is the coords to the world
In-game, use the starmap to navigate to those coords, zoom in and click on the world, then click "GO"
If you are able to connect to the server just fine with a fresh character and need to find the "home planet" we had started out on, its coords are:
alpha:88110450:-72950324:-13052807:5:7

Hmm, I guess that's the game trying to say it's time to try a new universe then. Might be good to start out again with some more people.
I've already backed up the universe, so I'll try trashing it in a moment. Automatically Appended Next Post: I've tried just a partial delete as a first step (only deleting "clientcontext" files and "codex"/"quest" db files etc.). The worlds are still there. See if it works now and let me know.
If not, I'll delete all the things.

I logged on and there's no world underneath my ship still, so it's going to crash if I use the captain's chair or save and quit. Its weird because this is the first time I've run into this bug. Automatically Appended Next Post: Yep, crash.

What am I missing Dakka?
Go to the campfire and 'use' it, drop the raw meat in and you can cook it. There's no explicit recipe, but you need to be used to 'using' tables and things to craft things (which is quite a bit different to Terraria).
Ah, that sounds like it. Thanks!

Ok, deleted the universe, so we're now effectively starting from scratch. Try connecting now. If you still have nothing beneath the ship, try a completely fresh character that has never connected before, just in case.

IS anyone else able to get on?

Doh, ok, I'm gonna try with fresh configs, the lot. It's the same problem I encountered myself and Wyrmalla had, so it's likely to be affecting everyone. Very strange though.

Anyway I'm looking to start from fresh with a new universe, is it just a case of deleting the contents in the universe folder??

Yeah, the worlds are stored as things like "alpha_748625_47874724_-8251234_10_11.world" (an exmaple from my universe file).

Just spotted I was editing the "default_configuration" file (used for creating new universes) rather than the current starbound.config (used in the current universe).
I'm changing the settings in the right place now (hopefully), and I've restored the universe as it was. Try connecting now... (fingers crossed).
The logs also look a lot more promising, shows a lot more info about the world being loaded.

Um, Darkinnit, you appear to have misnamed your character. Your a bird yes? Naturally you should be Duckinnit, youknow like with Minecraft you ninny.
I take it that that patch sorted out the new characters being stuck in space bug then? Or has nobody with an account not already linked to the server tried to link to it yet (ie the problem wasn't based around new characters, but new accounts). That is, unless you altered the server settings too?

It was a misconfiguration I had made in the config and I was looking at the wrong config file when trying to fix it yesterday. But yes, it's all working now, although the worlds have all been reset anyway (possibly due to ore generation rate changes?).
I have not misnamed my character, "like in Minecraft" I am called Darkinnit in the game. However, when I bought the game, I opted for the tier where you could name an NPC...

Then the hunt begins!
I've been able to log into the server fine now, just to clarify. I am however wearing a silly hat, so luckily nobody's on to demean me.
Is anyone's health bugging out a little? Every time I respawn I seem to have a little big of it missing.

I also noticed the missing health. Perhaps they have increased the health capacity, but forgot to increase the starting health to match.
Sleeping in a bed fixes it quite easily though.

Loot drops seem to have been improved to. The initial starting weapon was quickly outpaced by the first new sword that I found. That may just be down the changes in the damage system, but I'm not feeling that every now item I pick up now is junk (the Borderlands system of finding a cool new weapon every couple of drops is a nice one).
Oh and Darkinnit there was a tech chest in a cave right by your home on the spawn planet. ...Just saying (* trolling)

Beta skat 725 II, at x: -14, y: 0 has one too. Just head left for a minute or two and you'll come across it.
They weren't kidding when they said they needed to retweak the ore spawn rates. I think I have more gold bars than I have iron...
Also I bought 150 bombs from two frog traders I found on the spawn world. Have a still got more than 20 of them? Of course not. =P

First impressions of the game arent that bad, altough im getting the feeling that I am missing something. (Altough a patch hit since i've played last week, maybe they changed some stuff)
Im a bit underwhelmed by the craftingsystem. I've spent most of my time underground digging for metals (Which becomes horrendously boring after a while). The Game throws tons of copper my way, but since that becomes pretty useless after you've crafted your first armor...well. Iron seems to be the most important early on, but I didnt have much luck getting a lot of the stuff.
Also, I was a bit annoyed at the questline:
It annoyed me a bit that you cant move the "Spawn point" of the Ship's Teleporter. I usually search for a structure I can conquer so I dont have to build an entire house myself, but since you cant choose where the ship drops you, its a huge walk sometimes to get back to your flat. But its a Beta, im sure theres something coming that changes that.
My friend says im spending too much time crafting and building, and the real fun of the game comes with exploring all the stuff and getting my materials that way. Gonna try again this weekend.
Is that built with iron? If yes, how do you get so much of the stuff?

It's "Hardened Steel" wall blocks of various types. I didn't craft them, but "acquired" them from a base further around the planet. It's massive, I don't think they'll miss the few pieces shown there.
Mining away the background blocks from those bases is a great way to get loads of blocks.

I bought another couple of hundred bombs. I'm down to a hand full again. ...I shouldn't be allowed near explosives.
The new weapon damage system seems to be a little broken for the moment. I don't know how enemies will be levelled in the fourth sector, but I've been able to kill those in Gamma with either three hits with an Alpha level sword (I think it took me twelve hits to kill the robot with one of those), or one hit with a Beta. The Gamma level weapons do five to six digits worth of damage...
Is there anywhere where the full patch notes are listed. The launcher notes some of the changes, but I' noticing things other than those in the game. For instance tiers have changed to make everything harder to unlock. The drowning meter kicks in faster. Fuel's been changed (aww no logs?) And ah... other stuff. =P
Hi guys, so last night we pushed the major balance update. We’d tested it for hours and at the lastminute a bug crept in that broke crafted weapon damage, making them crazy overpowered. Hence the name of this version.
Heh. Though despite saying make a new character the changes are applied to existing ones, so no worries.
Also, for when logging onto the server. There's a new "Server account" field. To bypass it just stick in a single space then fill out the others as normal.

I was on late last night, though I think typically my hours are after eight (ie its eight right now and I may log in). I do make a habit of saying "Hello?" every now and then to see if I'm alone or not, but that does make the universe a lonely place. Perhaps one day I shall encounter another intelligent life form. (Then say "lol", and spend a few hours with them in silence. ...Youknow what gamers are supposed to do right?)
