Guess I'll get on and see about decorating some late-for-valentines stuff
Sadly, I've been too busy to play minecraft or starbound much recently :/

I've updated the server again with the latest hotfix. If they are going to release content updates quite often like they say, I will probably set up an automated "downtime" period early in the morning for updates to run.

Today, I finally slightly retooled the admin system to allow for admin logins on servers, and also admin logins for local client, which means that all of the commands that have previously been disabled can now be enabled if you type in /ruinthefun (local only). This will be ridiculously helpful for modders and such. I think we might look into segregating characters where admin has been used and where it hasn’t been in the future into different universe directories.
Also, I fixed a few UI and API bugs. The find random button was allowing you to leave the system when you technically could not leave the system.
I spend a good chunk of my day doing an interview. We’ve been interviewing various people for the programming position on the Pirate game.
Glad they're working on other parts in their rush to make combat better.

Outpost stores are being developed. Finally we might be able to buy and sell gak. This one sells gardening supplies apparently.

So in our internal build we’ve just implemented admin login/passwords, banning, kicking and some other obvious bits and pieces. Here is a non exhaustive list of current implemented commands available to server admins. We’re interested in hearing what you think might be missing from this list.

Looks like once this server actually gets going after release, Darkinnit will have some good tools on his hands

It'll be a while, they're still working out bugs because it's unstable and they don't like the furor released when they release an unstable patch (even though it's Beta and people should expect a few).

Kyren wrote:Finally, we’re preparing to restore the build server (it’s nearly done actually) and start doing AUTOMATED SCRIPTED NIGHTLY UPLOADS to steam. These will be AUTOMATED builds that are SCRIPTED and occur NIGHTLY, so huge huge warning signs will be placed around them, they are only for dedicated interested people to track development and experiment, not really for normal play. They could eat your dog, set your house on fire, eat your house, or set your dog on fire, who knows. They also might be broken, so don’t complain.
Kyren posted a warning for everyone who still plays about the upcoming patchfest.

So when I migrated the Minecraft servers to a new host I neglected to migrate my Starbound server too. :-(
I've now brought it back to life (fresh new universe though) and it's accessible again. Those of you who were whitelisted should be able to login with the same credentials I already provided. If you've forgotten them or want a different password etc, send me a PM. If you're not whitelisted and want in, send me a PM!
It has reloads every two hours, on the hour, just to keep things stable. I don't currently know of any way to display a warning message in-game when the restart is about to happen, so make note of it. As with the Minecraft servers, I'm also keeping backups of the universe.

Phew, its been a good while since I played this game. Hell I don't even know what stage in the development its at or what's changed. I mean are cars and mechs in yet? Did they implement all the armours so that when you hit the high tiers it isn't just a case of throwing a load of ores about to unlock them? Hmn, thinks that I probably should sink my time into to find out about. Ah right, and do servers now require you to make a new character for each individual one? I found that the last time I played there was nothing to stop players from just hopping into single player, spawning whatever items they wanted, then jumping back onto a server (ok I may have done this to play about with the car ^^).
It may be a while before I hop back on again, but ah, for convenience sake could you send me my login details again Darkinnit. ...I could just search through all my messages, but well, if you're willing to just send the thing again...
Also, holy crap its been a year since this thread was started. Damn I didn't realize just how long its been since I played this game (30/12/2013 apparently). 0.0

As far as I can see there's still the ability to connect to the server using your single player character. I really would prefer it if they made it so player & ship inventories were stored server side, as it gives more incentive to stay on the server - to build up your character's kit etc.
The way it currently is, there's no incentive to play online unless someone else is online and so that leads to less people online and less chance to be online at the same time as someone else...
This is made worse by the lack of an ingame player list, so you don't even know if someone *is* online, unless you check the player list page I put together.
They've said they'd "like to have it as a server option" but I don't see any such option yet.
Yeah, the current normal beta patch is several months old, I think. The nightlies might have that feature, but they're about as stable as a one legged man balancing on a one-legged chair balancing on a unicycle.

What I've been working on-- basic base for the Dakkabound server.
This is the current spawn planet. Unfortunately, it rains really damn hard here and because of the way chunks work, it will rain in the bottom floor unless someone is in the top. Annoying, I know. That was fixed in a nightly, but not in this patch.

Do you guys want the home base to be rustic like it is, just expanded-- or would you prefer something more hi-tech and sci-fi?

I'm not to sure if I'd be able to get online given how my connection's been lately. Still I'd like to get back on the server if others were on, and well that's just it isn't it? There's no point on playing on a server if it'd be just a single player experience. =/
I did a quick look over the wiki to see what's been changed in the year since I last played. On the surface not much, but I guess they've made efforts on improving what's already there. Still the same upcoming features and what not. No new race, proper racial quests, armour bonuses, vehicles, etc. Its not like the game's been in development for a long time in the scheme of things though, so what's there's permissible, and maybe I'm just missing out on things which are bit more major.
Hmn, I wonder if they ever implemented the larger ships. Sticking your crap in a hole in the ground on some uncharted planet to keep its safe's always good I mean, but that doesn't cut it for some. Having your entire ship laden with chests doesn't look really pretty, so it'd be nice if they expanded the space a bit for a dedicated chest room (the rest of the ship would still be full of chests of course, need all that loot). I'm assuming that there's some reason not to implement the ship tree, but what's up with what they're doing now? Just throw together a crafting recipe or something for them like they did for the high tier armour then worry about something more substantial later. Better yet, have a trading system so we don't need to horde all that crap (...then still do, because loots).
I think its more or less where it was up to last time. They've been doing a lot of quick little updates, but stability issues so far. It probably won't be too long until they fix that up.
I'm still waiting for the bigger ship. I've managed to make mine look nice, but theres no room in it.
