I made a new guy for this (mostly because my other characters were all busy with some menial task and I didn't want to resume them after not playing them for so long) and can't wait to try out the colonies. I am also curious to see how much they flesh out farming.

The game as it is now, I feel, really needs optimization.
The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Dark, you got the coordinates for what used to be the spawn base?
I have it as a teleporter location on my main character, but for my other ones-- and for anyone who hasn't added the world on multi yet-- we now have random spawns and thus can't locate it. And sadly, the teleporter doesn't save the coordinate, only the world name.

I feel like progression is much easier in this latest update. I've breezed through the first bosses, but am still having fun. Optimization is something they should focus on though, since there is a nice bit of content in the game, and adding more content doesn't solve the problems people have with the current version.

Sorry for the delay, almost forgot about this post!
According to my spaceship cockpit (assuming this is where I get the details), it's:

Is the first boss any easier? Before the recent update, I remember having to slog through a large base of fairly tough enemies, get to a spinning laser boss, got killed and sent back to the very beginning of the base with all the tough enemies respawned.
I gave it a second attempt but after being sent back to the very start again when I died to the boss without having done much damage, I just lost interest in trying. A simple checkpoint/respawn spot at least partway through the base would probably be enough to keep me trying even if the boss is no easier.
Oh yes, they changed it so that the instance doesn't despawn until you've been outside of it for a few minutes, so you don't have to restart.

It felt to me that I could breeze through the enemies easier (with melee, even). The boss is still the same, but I had double jump and the dash ability for it, so I was set.
2nd boss' minions didn't hurt as much either. Again, it could have just been me misremembering things.
Finally, the Floran boss fight has an actual boss fight now, but its easy to dodge its attacks and lay down practically constant fire on it. I wish it was more of a challenge.

They're working on introducing a compelted version of the next tier of planets now as well, since at the moment they basically only have four. The fifth one they hinted at included "dark" planets that have no sunlight at all and are eternally night, and presumably tentacle planets.

Ooh, I take it the tentacle planets are like what happened to Earth in the setting? That sure sounds cool. As for the dark planets, I know of an armor set that emits light, which might be useful finally for that. (Although lantern on a stick and flashlights are pretty good too.

Update the server, Dark? Seems they're doing updates more often.

Hey Darkinnit, figured out an auto-update system yet? Server needs an update.

So Starbound 1.0 has been out for a little while now, and now I've updated the server to version 1.0.5. This did require a universe reset, so you have to start from the beginning again. However, it does have a nice new intro to the game.
I'm currently on a planet called "Skat Swarm III - a -" I've no idea if this is a shared starting position.
Awesome! I'll have to play some and help develop a home planet. If we decide on a nice planet, I'll edit its coords in to the original post.

I'll start building a spawn base and such. We don't all spawn on the same world, but having a centralized world with resources and a farm to be shared to everyone would be nice.
I'll edit them in to the first post.

Aha, yeah, I forgot you can't just type in the planet name into a search. I don't have access to my ship's flight systems yet, but the coords according to the server log are:
-356526126:779413936:65045072:6:3
Also I had to update the server to match the new release so I could login to check the coords, so, server's updated too!
Question, how are characters handled now? Are there stats/ gear locked to a server, or are they client side? I think it was proposed at want point for it to be server side right?
I only ask that as when it was client side people could just spawn in a load of stuff then jump onto any server with it.
They're still client side unless the server opts in to a server-side system.
Also, hover cars are purchasable fairly early on so you don't even need to really cheat to get one now.

Ah I see they still have the mining facility with no checkpoints/restore locations. That's what made me give up last time. Getting told "nope. start over" is not my type of fun... :(
Actually there is a checkpoint, Dark, about ~3/4ths the way through.
