Pick a color you like and work with it as a base.

For the army build, I can't help but the 40k Army Lists sub-forum should give you some great ideas.

The scheme I liked for mine is blue armour, black cloth on fire warriors, orange / red detail e.g. lenses. Although I'd recommend searching google for tau until you see something you like then if you'd like ask here about how you could go about doing it.

Use the Itten color chart. It usually gives good color combinations and contrasts

As olim said start grey, mechanicus standard grey or storm vermin fur would be good. Mechanicus is darker and a single was of nuln oil would look good, but i prefer storm vermin with 2 washes of nuln, it gives the recesses more shadow and is nicer to highlight.

Don't forget to thin your paints and washes, you will have to give it a few coats but it will give a smoother finish.

Enjoy dude.

I forgot to say, YouTube and Google are always your friend for tutorials. I also use tale of painters and from the warp swell. I'm not sure what they have in the way of tau tutorials as im a space wolves/orks painter but the paint concept is all the same really fella.

That is probably the only tron tau ive seen that actually looks pretty damn good. You made it look like its the light sheeming off of it but judging by the angles of the "reflected light" never change i'd wager it was a very well done gray layer.

Usually people just do jet black and blue or red lines. Looks really lame since most people cannot add any depth to black to shake a stick at. so the model looks pretty dead.

If you need help picking colors, here is what I have seen work well for Tau:

Option 1: Light armor, dark cloth, vibrant sept marking/spot color

ie. White armor+Black cloth+Yellow markings/spot color, Light grey armor+Black cloth+Orange/white markings

Option 2: Dark armor, dark cloth, vibrant sept marking/spot color

ie. Dark green armor, black cloth, Orange/white markings

Hope this helps.

That's awesome - the black's amazing! Is your whole army that detailed or just the bigger models?
