Subject: Kickstarter - 28mm Zombie Miniatures, Survivors, and Terrain. Free Terrain at £12+ (8 hours left!)
The Zombie Box Set Project is about creating a unique set of character models. The main aim of this project is to raise the money to print and tool all these designs and give gamers one of the coolest collections of zombie miniatures and zombie specific accessory's on the market.
This kickstarter will help with the costs of 3D Printing and molding. As it stands half of the zombie sculpts are complete and all of the accessory models have been built. Money from this kickstarter will help bring all these models from the virtual world of digital sculpting into the real world. From Polygons to Printing to Epoxy masters to white metal ... to you.
(Renders of the zombie models that have been shown so far.)
Spoiler:
There aren't any renders of the survivors just yet, although 2 of them look very similar to characters from the 'Walking Dead'. (Also does that spelling mistake bother anyone else?..)
Dumpsters and barrels Add-on £15.
Walls and Barriers Add-on £12.
They're also throwing in a free zombie Santa model to all the people who pledge before the 24th of December.

Id be all over the fortification packs, but I have a bad feeling about this for some reason. Plus how many nun zombies can you have without them all being in the same positioning and sticking out everywhere. Same goes for most of their cliché zombies.

Are these zombies and survivors going to be multi part figures, or just arms?
How are they going to be based?
Are the survivors going to have weapons options?
I'd really like to see more.
At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

as they are being 3d printed i'm not too sure of what the companies capabilities are without a preview. That's why I'm staying away.

The terrain looks good (though an empty garbage skip seems a little silly) but I already have a bunch of those types of terrain thanks to Armorcast, Ainsty and others.
The figure concepts look okay. It seems really wrong to say it, but I actually think I have enough zombies at this point* and unless they are REALLY nice they don't attract me.
I'll watch this one. More inhabitants for my Trailer Park terrain are always welcome.

The models look well sculpted, but there's such a glut of zombie stuff that it'll be hard to get this stuff to stand out. The dumpsters and barricades are the only thing that really make this seem unique.

Anybody know much about the company behind this ks?
Id be interested in a modest pledge for some apocalyptic action on my mars attacks board. I think the scenery should go well with Mantics urban scenery.
Cheers

With some hacking and chopping you could get a bit of variety in your zombie nun horde.
I think they'd be better taking the skip and sandbags out and replacing them with more pallets, bins etc.
I've never seen the point of selling sandbags as they're one of the easiest things to make yourself.
The skip would make a nice set on it's own with the option of filling it up with corpses. A pile of bodies in bags would be better than the sandbags. It's the sort of thing you might expect to see during the initial outbreak along with chemical containers for decontaminants, combustibles, disposal of hazardous waste.
The zombies are meh but the survivors look excellent as do the scenery bits. There is still a lack of children zombies so a company could focus on them and do well I believe.

I've put in for £6 for now so I can have access to the scenery.
The zombies seem a bit pricey compared to some of the plastic ones you can get.
One to watch.
Check out my gallery here Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

Why more Zombie stuff? Isn't the market over saturated already? Aren't there like 10+ producers of zombies from fantasy to sci-fi and modern zombies. GW with their overpriced stuff, Mantic with their cheaper options, Wargames Factory with their ultra cheap modern male AND female zombies.
How about someone start a kickstarter for something the market is lacking! Like Sci-fi female soldiers for instance? Kinda sad when the only plastic female humans on the market are the Survivors and zombie vixens from Wargames Factory.
I'm really looking forwards to Raging Heroes doing their Sisterhood kickstarter.
As for this kickstarter they seem to have some really good artists, it's just sad they are using their talent to make something we already have tons of options for. Guess I better get myself a zombie nun as a herald of nurgle or something

Terrain looks good. Will it be cast in metal though? Seems unlikely but the only mention of material on the KS page was to say the zombies will be white metal.

The 3d renders are definitely made for presentation and not optimized for casting. Case in point, the nun's incredibly wrinkled face. Little if any of that will show up in the final cast. Same goes for the pits on the biker's arms, and the officer's glasses. Unless the glasses come as a separate component (too small for most people to work with) they'll be in-filled to that face and obscure most of the detail.

In salute of the "startup" spirit I wish the people behind this the greatest of success.
However, at this time - I have plenty of zombies.
There are plenty of sources for barricades and terrain elements (amorcast, anticeties, etc.) and well, already a horde of zombie minis out there.
I just got my last zombie kickstarter stuff in the mail (zombicide second wave stuff) and while I love zombies, I have a feeling the market might be feeling a bit...saturated right now.
Again, i hope them the best of luck, but unless there is something more...unique? I think the demand from experienced gamer in this genre might be low.
Of course, some folks who love zombies and want more - I can see they will be very happy.
best of luck gentlemen, I hope it goes well!

Hmmm, the zombies look kinda off to me, their clothes are too clean / intact. Like the cop has deep gouges on his arms but they stop right at his pristine shirt sleeve.
The terrain looks good though, might pick up a pack or two.

And its already funded, they've released a new update today with a bit more information about what they currently have planned for the KS.
Update #3 We are Funded !!!
Well its been a really interesting day today now we have sailed past our funding goal so quickly. We have been busy in the workshop for a good chunk of the day and when I checked in we had cleared the funding goal and then some!
I never thought we would reach our goal with such ease, its been absolutely fantastic. Don't get me wrong it has taken a good while to put this campaign together so I was confident people would like the collection of scenery mixed with some new miniatures but to sail past the goal without even breaking a sweat in 78hrs ... that's not even 4 full days is stunning.
We have been looking at all the comments and have been enjoying the feedback, We have just waited a little while today before acting on comments just to gauge a consciousness of opinion and a few common ideas have started to form.
Zombie versions of the survivors are going to have to find their way into this campaign in some way as its one of the most requested items.
The 'Little Biters' were on the cards already before we started the campaign and these will also make an appearance.
The stretch goals need jazzing up a little more. It was always our intention to start adding more miniatures towards the end of these stretch goals but we are thinking we need to mix this up a bit.
A new reward pledge that will provide a custom sculpted figure in the pose you supply via a photograph. Rather than just sculpting you as a zombie it will provide you with a survivor version as well.
There have been other ideas floating around and we are loving some of them too but we don't want to diversify to much from the main goal of this campaign ... that is for the next one!
I think its really worth pointing out that the 'stretch goal' Terrain pieces are apparently going to be included as freebies in every pledge level of 'Defiance' (£12.) and above. Which means if the campaign can hit £12,000 then everyone who pledges for 'Defiance' and up should receive enough free stuff for to make a complete dumpster and barrels fortification pack, along with roughly 1/3rd of a Walls and Barricade pack. (Also there are an extra 4 tires, 2 skips, 2 wheelie bins and 1 dumpster left over after adding everything up.)
I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually limit the amount of terrain freebies available to certain pledge levels though, because at the moment it looks like they will be giving away roughly £20 worth of terrain which is pretty ridiculous when you consider how little the required pledge level for freebies is at only £12.
Spoiler:
Goal 1 £6,000 unlocked - one small skip set
Goal 2 £6,500 unlocked - section of security fence x2
Goal 3 £7,000 unlocked -Set of trash and Barrels x 2 (8 parts in total)
Goal 4 £7,500 Locked - Concrete crash barriers x2
Goal 5 £8,000 Locked - Pile of sandbags X2 (2 parts in total)
Goal 6 £8,500 Locked - Wheelie Bins x2 (4 parts in total)
Goal 7 £9,000 Locked - Large Dumpster x2 (2 parts in total)
Goal 8 £9,500 Locked - Set of traffic barriers X2
Goal 9 £10,000 Locked - Pile of tyres x 5 (10 parts in total)

Goal 11 £12,000 Locked - Large Skip x2 (2 parts in total)

Well after a few good days this campaign is getting very close to hitting the final terrain stretch goal with only £300 to go until it reaches £12,000.

Section of security fence x 2
Set of trash and Barrels x 2 (8 parts in total)
Concrete crash barriers x2
Pile of sandbags X2 (2 parts in total)
Wheelie Bins x2 (4 parts in total)
Large Dumpster x2 (2 parts in total)
Set of traffic barriers X2
Pile of tires x 5 (10 parts in total)
Plastic crowd barriers x2 (6 parts in total)
Large Skip x2 (2 parts in total)
3DForge has also recently added a set of 5 zombie children to the campaign as an add-on pack that costs £9.00.
More stretch goals added including these ace vehicles:
