I was thinking these new hardback codexes would hold longer, but after returning from a game with my buddies my fingers felt scratches at the back of my hardback Tau codex. I turned the book around and looked and they're barely visible, a couple of them criss-crossing approximately where the text is, but definitely "feelable". It kinda makes me sad.

Does anyone else have this problem by now?

Wondering Why the Emperor Left

Mostly unrelated but my old tau codex was blackened by detonating spray paint and also took a serious beating in terms of scratching, page, bending and such over the years.

Currently not in posession of any armies - I merely theorycraft and discuss background,

Hard copy (of all books) is basically mint, tablet is scratched to buggery - but not the screen, that's completely unscratched.

hey, its better than the pages falling out after extended use like the old ones. I had to buy two black templar ones and one tyranid ones because of that.

Besides that, knock on wood my knew dex's are holding up quite well and thats even with snow getting on them and whatnot.

The Emperor extends His will to us when we destroy the wicked and impure to reconquer the galaxy in His name. The Emperor leads the galaxy to righteousness, and thus we must petition for His judgement on the wicked... for it is judgement without mercy..

If your codex gets scratches, it is because you treat it in such a way that it gets scratched.

This is a problem with how you treat and handle your stuff. Not a perceived flaw in the quality of GWs books.

This reminds me of the "good old" threads about how peoples codexes fell apart and lost pages.
This is a completely alien concept to me. I have played since Rogue Trader, and all of my books and codexes are fine.
Stop mistreating your soft-back books as if they are hard-backs (referring to the old soft-back codexes), and they will last forever.

My Ultramarines Codex is pristine, it cost me far too much money to ruin. My signed copy of C:SM is still in top condition too, both are bloody precious items to me, just because I know I'll never get them again if I ruin them. My rulebook is battered though.

My C:Orks and rulebook are both somewhat damaged, though neither of them through neglect; rather through accidents.

Yeah. The main reason for damaged books and loose pages, is because some people are stupid enough to think you can have a soft-back laying open on the table.

My fall of Orpheus book has deep cuts on the cover, my iron hands limited Ed dex has dents and scratches all in it, and my limited Ed tau dex has some scratches on the cover lol.

Yes....MINE!!!!

It is right above having a Dakka-username that doesn't start with a capital letter, but not quite as bad as cutting holes in your raincoat and then complain you are getting wet.

There was a while were a lot of the books were being opened in store and pages dropping out, so it's not always do to the people who own the products.

I had to ducktape my BrB together, the binding started to come loose and it was the only way I could salvage it. All of my books are pretty beat up, they get used and thats the reason I bought them. They still look nice on the book shelf though.....even with a strip of duct tape going down the binding on the outside.

While I agree 100% with your statement in regards to the new hardback books, the 5th edition codices & 7th edition army books were notorious for having sub-par binding.

When we got our 1st shipment of the 5th SM's codex, we had to write-off about half a dozen on the spot due to awful binding and the pages falling out as soon as we picked them up. Within the 1st week of selling it, we had at least a quarter of the books we sold come back for exchanges due to the binding cracking and the pages exploding out of the book.
Yes part of it was because customers were being morons and pulling the book wide open/trying to bend the pages back to keep the army list section open while working with it, but the root problem was the binding was insufficient and forced a person to treat that book like it was a delicate comic book worth $$$!

The Fantasy books were just as heinous, and most of the army list sections ended up barely hanging on by a thread basically.

The new hardbacks are awesome quality though!

My cats love to go up to mine and rub the side of their face across the top of the spine... not even seeing any foxing or bending/damage yet on them and they still look brand new!

My new hard back dark angels codex doesn't have a single scratch or flaw on it, and I've had it for 2 months, it's constantly being transported from house to house as my parents are divorced and also to my local GW so I can play games, so they must be doing something right
