Finally finished GTA V 100% today after waiting a while for the final Bigfoot hunting mission to appear and it all feels like the end of an era to me. I'm not going to buying any more consoles, certainly not for the foreseeable future; partly, this is due to kids and other interests encroaching on my limited time and gaming has taken such a backseat now that I can't justify the cost versus time outlay. I don't suppose the next GTA release will be on Xbox 360 as well as the next gen consoles (unless they decide to release any subsequent DLC via a bundle like they did with GTA IV).

Anyway, it was all a bit anti-climatic really. The reward for 100% completion was crap compared to previous releases. I would like to own the golf course too but I have already done the assassination missions and even if I did still have them to do, I'm not on Xbox live so have no access to the Bawsaq (most of the real gains from those missions are from Bawsaq traded shares). Not really sure what else there is to do now other than potter around seeing the sights but then again, GTA never really was a game to keep you playing after you had finished the main storyline.

I have a hankering to revisit GTA San Andreas but after having spent the past week or so collecting tedious letter scraps, submarine parts etc etc, I develop a tic when I think of those graffiti tags, flowers, photos, horseshoes that need picking up...

Well, I dug out my old GTA: San Andreas disc and gave it a spin. It didn't help that the disc was dirty so was reading properly to start with. Secondly, I was amazed (and shocked even) by just how old and dated it looked. I remember it being such a fresh and innovative game at the time but it just looks old now. I suppose we have been spoiled by the current crop of titles coming out that really do look superb. However, I found a website hosting a project to convert GTA: SA into the GTA IV RAGE engine so I might give that a whirl tonight.

In the meantime, there is always the Mount Chiliad mystery to solve I suppose and try to get the jetpack (if it exists).

I'm sure there will still be plenty of games for the PS3 and 360 for at least another year or two. While the PS4 and XBone made history for their opening weeks sales, they still only have an install base of a few million while the 360 and PS3 are sitting on what, about 80 million each?

Publishers aren't going to throw that install base away. There will be 'downports' of games coming to older systems, at least until the new systems stretch their legs and get some more sales.

The next GTA, however, being on those consoles is wishful thinking. It'll be a good 3-4 years knowing Rockstar, and by then, the PS4 and XBone will have anchored themselves as the main gaming consoles.

So what can you do exactly? GTA V has, in some respects, even less interaction with the 'real' world than previous titles. Remember Vice City and San Andreas? There were loads of properties you could buy and associated quests to improve them and make them more profitable. In GTA V there are a couple of pointless purchasable properties that don't really generate much money, don;t add anything to the game and that spawn the same few repeatable missions (like a gang attacking the bar that seems to happen constantly). Beyond that, what else? Drive around a bit listening to the same music and jingles on loop? (the radio in GTA V seems to have less music on it than previous titles - or at least, it seems that way). Spend a bunch of money customising a car (that you can't easily recoup because there are so few ways to generate significant amounts of money)? Wear my 100% t-shirt? At least in San Andreas you got a fighter jet spawning on your house and you could visit the casino or the gym or rob a shop or something. I guess I can go and play golf or tennis....

Don't get me wrong, I love the GTA series, have played all of them and completed all of them 100% but there really isn't much more to do after the story has finished once the novelty of buying a rocket launcher and going nuts wears off. I hope that Rockstar release any future DLC for the 360 as well as the Xbone.

I know exactly what you mean on GTA5. I've been an avid player from GTA3 onwards, and in my opinion SA will always be the greatest of the bunch. It's just that the games made since then feel a lot smaller than it was. You could get fat, rob a casino and then try to outrun the cops on a jetpack.

GTA5 is still good, a very very good game and the missions are, I feel, a great improvement and not so damn repetitive. Plus I do like the idea of having 3 swappable characters, that way if you crash your car in the middle of the forest and have to spend the next thirty minutes walking back to civilisation, you can just swap to another person and let them get on with it.

I don't get it... can't you just play new ones on a PC? I've resolved to give up console gaming as well, just as soon as Mass Effect 3 is complete (which I'm only stuck doing due to the series importing data from previous games). I bought GTA4 on Xbox, but bought Episodes from Liberty City on PC and it's a much better experience. I've been waiting for months now for 5 to appear on PC, and so it will be with any DLC, 6, so on.

“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.”
