Ya I heard something about that. What's the deal with genestealers? I want to start nids but I won't play an army that can't be competitive.

They look like they're still okay and Broodlords look to still be pretty solid, but with how 6th works now, outflanking is pretty much pointless and infiltrating is arguably a questionable choice. Thing is, my brother loved outflanking with them, then 6th dropped so he switched over to Ymgarls and now those are pretty much gone aside from the Ymgarl Factor artifact which only allow genestealers to gain the oldnid dex mutation shenanigans. In short, his army is definitely going to need to change.

Did you like Genestealers in 5th? If so, great they are exactly the same as they were. Did you like the 5th edition codex for Tyranids? Yes? Well I want what you are smoking and great news! It is exactly the same. Most units are exactly the same as they were with point increases or decreases. The new units are...underwhelming.

Gonna face the new Nids in a local tournament very soon, so super excited to see them in action. Hopefully my Iron Hands will stand their ground and kill some bugs!

Except they cannot assault the turn they arrive from reserves via Outflank in 6th edition... which was the only thing that made them viable in 5th edition. Genestealers are cool but until they get a significant points decrease, stealth/shrouded, grenades, or all 3, they will stay on the shelf in a competitive environment.

Hmmm, Venomthropes and Genestealers could be an interesting combo.

New units underwhelming, that new cannon of a tyranid has a large blast ap2/ assault 6 ap2 gun. Freaking scary.

Okay lets break it down. The best way to use him is with the large blast because of his BS 3. A range 24" S7 AP2 large blast that deviates -3" on a T6 W5 3+ platform. It is OKAY but it isn't anything special, not like there aren't similar but better equivalents throughout the game. Most armies in the game will have no problem killing one before it reaches 24" and even when it does it can do some crazy damage but it isn't going to be as scary as...Riptides or Wave Serpents. Don't get me wrong I would rather everything be more tame like the Exocrine, but the flood gates have been opened and we have to compare it to things like the most powerful units in the game right now and it just doesn't stack up.

I don't play nids, but I do wish Mycetic Spores were still in the codex, I just scratch built 3 for my brother about a month ago... in games between him and me, I'll definitely let him still use them but it sucks seeing something you made suddenly become obsolete...

maybe I can use them as bases for torsos in converting some exocrine/haruspex

Nearly all dedicated assault units seem to suck in 6th edition, and strangely GW does not even seem interested about improving them in new Codices - quite the contrary, if anything. Bizarre.

I love the way you all whine.

It just reminds me of when the Eldar codex appeared.
Seerstar getting nerfed cause no reliable Fortune.
WK bad when compared to Riptide and even Dreadknight.
Old Bladestorm nerfed.
Etc.
The only good thing was a "slight" buff the Wave Serpent got.

I have a feeling that those point decreases of Trygons, Carnifexes or anything could possibly be the biggest buff.
The ability to squeeze 1 or even 2 more MCs plus FnP on everything seems to be a better option.
Also people tend to compare old units to the new versions and whine when they get nerfed.
It is a common thing for GW to change units' power level upside down. So units which are owned by everyone and overflow the market get nerfed and the opposite get buffed.
Look at Wraiths (now good) and Monoliths(now bad, next things have similar order), Pathfinders and Rail Broadsides, Warpspiders and Harlequinns or released Heldrake (which was buffed even moar later) and nerfed the entire CSM codex.

Just my 2 cents.

Well there maybe a slight problem of the csm kind . From what I read and hear a lot of nid players want to play with genestealers . And those did suck in the last codex, both of their versions got nerfed , one in to non existance.

So if someone wants an army that runs 5x30 guants and births more each turn , then the codex maybe fun for them . But otherwise I see the same thing happening that happened with some other dex. A unit goes down in points , but its upgrades go up , so in the end the same kind of unit costs more then it cost before .

I plan on starting an army. I've got $260 in store credit at my FLGS, and I'm really wondering how I want to spend it. I've already got the codex coming, and now I'm torn on how I actually want to run them. I'm thinking of picking up the tyranid swarm, plus swarmy, some tyrant guard, a venomthrope and another box of gargoyles. The problem is that I just want a lot of the big bugs, but I guess it's more responsible to get the good starter going first. Just not nearly as exciting.

get the big box, another 20 gargoyles some venoms and carnifexes. Gargoyles screen with the venoms cover save and everythign behind gets a 3+ cover. Run across the board and hope you make it to turn 3.

My friend runs an army that consists entirely of genestealers with brood lords. the Deathleaper, the Doom in a pod, zoanthropes, and a tyranid prime because he had to have an HQ choice.

I don't think he's going to be happy.

Unless you were planning on entering tournaments with them, I'd still give it a go. The new book's not going to be competitive, but it'll hold up in friendly games. So if you like the army, then go for it. Eh, you never know, someone may stumble across a killer-combination later on, or we may get a fantastic supplement.

Oh, no, I'm terrible. They just seem to have removed all the parts that interested me. As an Ork player I never got psychic shenanigans or FMCs, or any (good) Deep Strikers. That was really all I was looking forward to, but the loss of some of the BRB powers and Pods have really slammed my interest in them.

Super excited for this book... Already found some great combos I can't wait to try...

Here's my favorite...

3 squads of 3 spore mines + deathleaper

Use the pheromone trail to nonscatter deep strike the spores right into enemy face for some great s7 blast large blast action.

This...this just....everything about this makes me sick for my poor bugs. SPORE MINES are the most hyped unit in the new codex?...Is it sad that I was thinking the same thing?

The codex has all leaked, all the pages are out.

Not rumors, not conjecture of mis-information, the book is out there. All the rules, we have them.

The good news is we don't have to worry about the power gaming codex hoppers jumping on this book like they did with the tau.

I pick my book up and a new model tomorrow at my FLGS.

Then I will burn my sad custom spore pods on a small funeral pyre whle clutching my doom and singing the hivemind's version of amazing grace.

Believe it or not, he actually does pretty well with the list in the local community/tournament scene. For one, absolutely nobody expects it and it breaks their brains in half trying to figure out what to do, so he has meta busting potential going for him. For another, he has mastered the art of playing the scenario and usually wins by a couple victory points having about 2-3 models left on the table at the end of the game.

Both my regular opponents are like that actually. the other plays drop pod blood angels.

To be honest I always kind of feel bad whenever I beat them with my Tau. I'm not nearly as skilled as they are from a generalship perspective. You'd think after getting my little blue fish face repeatedly ripped off in close combat all throughout 4th and 5th edition I'd take a little more pleasure in getting back at them...

Lets see how I feel about the new nid codex coming out...

Well I must admit a certain eager anticipation on my part.
mine is coming soon...
I've looked at the rumors and seen the comments left by those who have already gotten their hands on a copy but I tend not to put to much stock in such things.
What?! they have theirs and I am left to linger without?!
Especially when I consider the number doom-sayers, cherry pickers and GW fan-boys that are out there.
It's mine I paid for it! GW has no right to leave me in the dark while others bask in the light of truth!
I'll just patiently wait an see for myself.
They're thieves!!! They have not right to keep it from me even another minute. I'll have whats mine and make them pay the difference.... I'll make them all pay...

And t5 , so against tau or anyone with a quad gun it is dead on arrival unless 2 show up at the same time . Against tau two probably die too.

wouldn't it be better if some did and you wouldn't have to play screamer star , taudar , eldar super friends and grav gun builds over and over again?

I've a fairly sizable force of 'Nids from when I started playing them back in 4th, I can field most army types with what I have at a decent point level so the re releases and the big boxset didn't interest me. I am picking up my new bits tomorrow, getting two of each of the new models and the new codex. I also lucked out this week and picked up a Bio Titan cheap so its been a good week for my Nids.

I'm taking part in a big Nids vs. Eldar game with the new codex tomorrow (at least 8k a side) so I'll build up the new models to the point where they differ and try them out before I decide what I want to build them as. I've another game on Sunday at 3.5k so I'll get a second try of the new stuff to see what I feel.

I want to see how the codex performs for me before I pass judgement on it.
