Look what happened to Heroscape. A big fanbase, but there are no new rules and it is slowly shrinking, plus no one wants to get into the game. The same would happen to us. On the other hand, it's not THAT far out that if GW collapsed then they would be picked up by Hasbro or the like. Heroscape collapsed because it was one game in a large companies collection of many different lines. Gw, however, IS warhammer. They have two big lines and won't let them go.

All the rules they have published up to that point would still exist - they don't just spontaneously combust when the company goes arse-up.

Your models will also still be models, they won't disappear into the warp when the company goes arse-up.

You can still use both the rules and models and continue as you have been doing for the last X years.

All that will happen is that without a constant flow of new releases, it will become the game that those two old guys play over in the corner that used to be huuuuge, but now only has a following based around three websites and a blog.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

It's a mistake to think that the end of GW means the end of 40K. The opposite is true, sure, but the former shutting up shop just means the latter goes elsewhere.

It will slowly die... not right away but it will.

It effects the people who rely on stores to play moreso than those who belong to clubs.

Doubling yearly profits? I don't know what financial reports you've been reading...

Maybe he is confusing...
Nope, I got nothing.

Ooooh, confusing profits with .. no still nothing. I was gonna say complaints but they don't take any notice of those.

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

I think someone would jump at the idea of acquiring the rights to Warhammer 40k.

And even if GW does close, thats not going to keep people from play the game, From Fandom from producing their own updated rule sets.

I'm actually surprised, there isn't already a "Kings of War" style game, that is its own ruleset, but is compatible with the 40K minis, the way Kings of War is compatible with the Warhammer Fantasy minis.

Have you not heard of Warpath? The 40k equivalent made by the same people who made Kings of War?

Its still in beta, but the rules are available for free (make sure you get 2.0 not 1.0). Much faster and simpler than 40k, if/when it gets popular I'll never play 40k again

I am the kinda ork that takes his own washing machine apart, puts new bearings in it, then puts it back together, and it still works.

Yeah man, Orks (Orx) are one of the major factions

Not-Stormboyz and not-deff dreads are pretty good too. Sadly we have to borrow the space dwarves bikers to field warbikers though

From http://www.manticgames.com/games/warpath.html

The galaxy is burning.

The malevolent Corporation is ever expanding its sphere of influence, annexing more and more star systems. From its ancient beginnings on the Solar System, it has now spread like a malignant cancer across the galaxy, covering entire sectors in its tyrannical rule and suffocating any attempt to live free of its clutches.

Their expansion continues implacable, but the galaxy is a big place, and sooner or later the Corporation might meet its match in the remote and unexplored expanses of deep space...

In warpath you actually get to fight GW.

Lol, you better believe I exalted that

Given Mantic is apparantly largely ex-GW employees... maybe it really *does* represent GW

I could easily see WotC jumping at the chance.

I would not be worried about GW closing and suddenly stopping me from playing GW. Just tonight, only the fact that my wife was tired from work stopped me from playing against her in a game of Mage Knight (using only models from the 1.0 sets, at that!). that game hasn;t been publicly supported by WizKids in probably 8 years or more.

If you have the rules, and the models, you can play the game. Basically the only limiter is keeping the books in good shape. But I still have perfectly good condition books from 40K 2nd edition, and I could get nearly any of the rest I wanted or that edition from Amazon right now if I wanted them, for pretty dirt cheap.

Best thing that could happen. A new company would come out with an extremely similar wargame with an extremely similar list of armys, just with different names (not even sure if they would have to) and adopt all ex GW and probably put more effort into balancing. They could hardly put in less.

P.S.A. I won't read your posts if you break it into a million separate quotes and make an eyesore of it.
