I have been painting nids for a little while, partly in the build up to the new codex and partly because I enjoy the more organic aspects when painting the model. However I have recently begun to wonder if I couldnt do a better (and different) paint scheme on the models that would make them pop a little more. My old scheme has been really well recieved when shown however the carapace itself doesnt pop too well for me, I'd appreciate any comments and critique on the new schemes:

Old Scheme

New Scheme (Shock Guard)

New Scheme (Impaler Guard)

Obviously basing is incomplete on the hiveguard.

Cool, I like it.

The only thing I have to offer is maybe adding a contrasting color on the exposed "muscles" on the arms, just for a little more visual interest.

I like the new paint schme. The hard armour shells really pop out. Love the red painted shells. A contrasting color for the muscles would be interesting.

I love both to be honest. Would you mind sharing how you achieved the skin on the old scheme? I REALLY like it!

The red is amazing, I love it; not just because it looks outstanding but because, in nature, red is one those "danger" colours that animals use to make it clear they aren't to be messed with. Very applicable in a tyranid's case.

Cheers guys, the red carapace is my favourite however I cant see it combining with the brown/green skin which turns out really well, I think it might clash sadly.

The skin in the old scheme is a bit of a cheat from doing a tonne of plague bearers.

Thanks! I've been trying to find a good skin tone paint job I can do quick to paint some taunts, this is kinda the route I want to go.

Btw I agree about the red looking best as it represents danger

Old scheme was vanilla, I guess, but the colours worked. The carapace pops nicely, but then it falls flat on the skin. Both look good, but the new one looms half-baked

Love the red paintjob, looks very realistic like some others pointed out.
