I'm playing in a league at the minute, month one is 500 points, month two is 1000pts, month three is 1500, upto 2000 by month four.

It's currently the first month so for 500 points I have a Reclusiarch, 10 x Death Company (foot slogging) and a Death Company Dreadnought + drop pod.

For 1000 I'm going for a Storm Raven, with 10 death company + my dreadnought being shock troops, an assault squad in a drop pod, a second in a razorback or maybe scouts in the RB

and whatever units we have at 500 points have to be carried onto the 1000 points, and so on

so my question is - are they any units from forge world that would provide something unique/distinctive, even just plain fun to use, that the regular BA codex doesn't provide. I was contemplating finding a use for the Lamenters Forgeworld HQ, Malakim Phoros because he sounds kinda cool

I'm not aware of any special forgeworld units specifically for BA. I am getting the fire raptor at the end of the month for my airborne assault BA army... Purely fluffy, not very competitive!

The FR looks awesome and can fire at 4 different targets each turn thanks to POTMS and the independent turret fire rule. No transport capacity so arguably the storm raven is better but it's always a risk using a storm raven to transport anything!

Not a fan of the revelation class warhead missile (BA only) which fits my fluffy theme but is very situational and relies on your reserves using it to come in on the turn after you FR.

Only FW units worth taking for BA are the Fire Raptor and Hyperios Air Defense Batteries. Typhon Heavy Siege Tanks might be good, too.

Contemptor dreadnoughts any good? I'll have a look at the tank

and good luck with your Fire Raptor

As a DA player yes, Contemptor Dreads with 2 TLLC is all the AA I need. If your BA army is already running dreads they'd be a good addition.

Contemptors with 2 Kheres Assault Cannons and a Cyclone Missile Launcher can be very effective (just remember, they're BS4 now).
I don't have my IA2 book on hand, but I think BA can take the Sicaran tank, which I enjoy playing with. Same with the Spartan.

Another vote for a mortis contemptor here. Kheres cannons and CML are great. Paint him up as a death company dread. Fluffy and efficient.

That's what I'm tempted to do, I've got one ordered so I just need to weapon options

Knowing my luck, first turn it'll mishap

Weapon options are easy for a mortis contemptor.

Do you need dedicated anti air? --> Lascannons + CML

Do you want to kill everything else and still potentially threaten aircraft? --> Kheres + CML

Imo Kheres is a better overall option, as it puts out much more damage per point.

Spartan... spartan every day of the week. Twice as well armed as a landraider, 25 capacity and immune to melta. Also big enough to blick LoS even better than a raider. For only just over 50pts more...

I'm just reading the rules for the contemptor, I can't see where it says you can replace both weapons?

It just says you can replace the twin linked heavy bolter with one of the options it provides.

If you could get two kheres, would that be 12 shots fired, or just 6 but twin linked?

25 Death Company in a Spartan would just be insane. Stick a Chaplain in with them and on the charge they'd be rocking 574 (!!!) attacks on the charge. Oh and they're Weapon Skill 5, Strength 5, can re-roll to hit and to wound.

All this for only 880 points Of course, if you didn't need all 574 of those attacks, you could cut a few guys, maybe throw in some power fists or something.

Are you sure your maths is right there? That works out to be a little under 23 attacks per guy.....That's a little off.

Make sure youve got the most current rules, which are confusingly in IA: Apocalypse (2013), the one with the chaos reaver titan on it. Not to be confused with IA: Apoc 2, or IA: Apoc Second Edition.
Normal contemptor can take dual weapons now, and the mortis pattern has the stationary=skyfire rule instead of fleet i think.
Technically, as BA, you cant take a standard contemptor anymore. Blood angels get their own contemptor pattern, which has the red thirst, and can take a bunch of BA only wargear (talons, magna grapple), but it cannot take dual guns. The mortis is still available to you (and for cheaper than a standard contemptor)

Two kheres is 12 shots, which is why theyre nuts :p

Hahaha, whoops. Yeah it's actually 96 attacks, my bad.

Realistically it's still enough to kill anything that they charge at.

Especially in a 2000 point game! Even if half of those wound I can't imagine anyone being lucky enough to save all 48 aha I don't think I'd be very popular though

Skyshield landing pad with the 5 point "Ready for Takeoff" upgrade from Stronghold Assault. Start the Fire Raptor on the board behind the 4++ save and then use the revelation warheads to help guide your turn 2 deepstrikes.
