Okay, could some one tell me how long ago did hand flamers vanish from the Space Marine War gear list? or the entire 40k armory

And when did Assault marines get such a shortage of war gear to take? no choice of giving them all power swords or axe's, and plasma pistols for everyone anymore.

Does anyone know when space marines got stingy of their war gear....

I just don't want to have to brake my Dark Angel Assault squads apart and get new arms and chain swords for them.

That would just suck.

Still in the Blood Angels armory as of the 5th edition codex

Only Blood Angel assault squads may buy hand flamers. The other chapters do not get that option. Even in 6th Ed, other assault squads can't access it.

Aside from for Battle Sisters, hand flamers went away at the start of 3rd edition, when regular flamers and heavy flamers were consolidated onto the one plastic template.

Sisters has their twin hand flamers, that were just treated as a regular flamer.

Blood Angels got their hand flamers back with the current codex.

If you want to give an entire squad jump packs, plasma pistols and power weapons, I think you may be looking for Vanguard veterans, but I'm not 100% if DA can take them.

Since we are already discussing hand flamers.. Would it be okay to use them as a count as flamer.? I have a pile of hand flamers and it could IMO be a cool and easy conversion

Given that two armies in the game already have hand flamers, using them as flamers is potentially rather confusing for your opponent.

They are handy for making combi-weapons, though.

If you have a lot of extra, chop off the barrel of the hand flamer and the barrel of a bolter and glue the flamer barrel onto the bolter. Since its obviously a flamer at that point I doubt anyone would give you grief.

Why chop up a hand flamer and a bolter to combine them.? Wouldn't that look more like a combi weapon.?

Not all is lost, at least. The Fire Hawks chapter (FW) can buy Hand Flamers.

Generally, the unspoken rule is as follows:
If it is attached underneath, beside or above the end of the barrel, which is still visible, it's a combi weapon.
If it is attached to to the front of the weapon to replace the end of the barrel, it counts as a the weapon you just put the end from on.
Thus, a bolter with a flamer end glued underneath it is a combi-flamer, and a bolter with a flamer end glued to the front is a flamer.

You know what's fun to do with them is run a bunch of Legion of the Damned. Total mindf*** for your opponent if they're into 40k fluff.

Yes that is correct.. But why put a flamer barrel on a boltgun when, what I want to do, is use a "flamer pistol" instead of the normal flamer.. If I converted a bolter to have a flamer barrel, I would just swap one 2handed flamer with another

As far as I can see in the SM dex a flamer is not 2 handed. It is Assault.

Serapham hand flamers are pistols. Gunslinger lets you shoot both....

I believe Heresy era marines still have hand flamers as well.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

They are now. In third edition, they just counted as a single regular flamer.
