Greetings, people of DAKKA DAKKA, my name is Noel Sorensen and I am the Chief Engineer of FireBucket Games LLC.
It is time to officially announce the approval and planned launch date of the T5: Tile City project by FireBucket Games on KickStarter.
FireBucket Games has until now been designing resin scenic bases and terrain, but has finally brought their skill with machine tools directly into the business with a new line of modular, 12" square, laser cut, HDF city tiles and stackable buildings designed to provide a dense urban environment for skirmish games.
T5: (Tactical, Topographical, Table-Top Terrain): Tile City is a KickStarter project that is scheduled to go live February 3, 2014.
Features include:
All pieces
• High-Density Fiberboard (HDF) is durable, Non-toxic, Biodegradable (if for some odd reason you wanted to compost your gaming terrain), Takes and holds paint, Adheres to most glues (wood glue, white glue, PVA, super glue, gap-filling super glue, silicone adhesive)
• Designed for 28mm miniatures, but can work up to 35mm or even 1:48 scale.
• Hidden construction tabs (no unsightly joints!)
T5: Tile City
• 12" (304mm) square tiles, 1/4" (6.4mm) thick.
• 6" (152mm) increments with which to build city blocks.
• Interlocking along edges to prevent separation.
• High-precision detail engraved on all visible surfaces; even the side of the curb.
• Gives impression of depth, without interfering with game play.
• Vertical cuts along the sidewalk edge add to impressions of realism.
• 14 different tiles designed so far.
• Combine any number of tiles to make your city as large as you want.
• Two-lane roads with sidewalks on both sides.
• Place roads side-by-side to make four-lane roads.
• Easy to build.
• Potential for more aesthetic options and more accessories as this project progresses.
Modular Building Building Modules (MBBM)
• This name is brought to you by the minister of redundancy from his office, the ministry of redundancy.
• 6" x 6" (152mm) or 6" x 12" (152mm x 304mm) octagonal footprint.
• 3" (76mm) tall, per level.
• Octagonally indexing (can be stacked with levels facing any of eight ways)
• Peg-in-hole interconnection between levels assures correct alignment every time and allows levels to be separated without sticking together.
• Designed to build towers.
• Can be stacked as high as you want; the flat base will remain stable as long as the surface it is on is flat and level.
• High-precision detail engraved on all visible surfaces, even inside, with multi-layer lamination for added visual depth.
• Central GravElevator (not a real anti-gravity engine) for moving between levels.
• Doors (removable)
• Windows (at least two sizes!)
• One MBBM set contains: (1) MBBM66: a 6" x 6" building with flat roof, (1) MBBM612: a 6" x 12" building with flat roof, (1) balcony, (1) support column, (2) roof fillers, (20) rooftop railings, (4) doors, (4) elevators.
• Potential for more aesthetic options, acrylic panes for the windows, and more accessories as this project progresses.
Shipping Container 422
• 4" (101mm) long
• 2" (50mm) wide
• 2" (50mm) tall
• Downward-hinged door on the front.
• Enough interior space for two models on 40mm bases.
• Removable roof (to get to the models mentioned above)
• Able to be stacked facing any direction and still interlock so they won't slide off each other.
• Potential for 2" long, 6" long, and windowed versions as this project progresses.

Well, you've certainly got my attention...
Looking forward to seeing more, and to seeing the costs.
And don't forget about the option for 'diagonal roads'!

Thanks for the support!
Diagonal roads are something that we've been kicking around for a while now, without much success integrating them into the basic T5 design. When they do come to be, they will be an entity all their own. Even so, thanks for the suggestion.
Also, yes, these were designed with Infinity in mind and that Avatar makes a few 'for scale purposes' appearances in the Kickstarter.

Are all of the buildings octigonal? Are there rectangular ones? Also, will you be making ruins or just complete buildings?

All buildings have eight sides, but some of them are longer; specifically, there is a 6" x 6" octagon with all walls of equal size and a 6" x 12" building with long walls on the sides and three smaller walls on the ends (these end walls are identical to the ones found on the 6" x 6" building). Rectangles wouldn't fit the interconnection as easily and are not part of the current design, but may be developed at a later time.
Ruins are a planned part of this project, but will be outside the scope of this project unless high stretch goals are met.

Thanks for sharing the preview page for the campaign!
It should be easy enough to entice people into pledging $5 for "stop gap" for 10 barricades... that seems like it would barely cover the cost of the material plus shipping in an envelope, but it's a nice way to get people to dip their toes in / show support... and we all know that gamers who dip their toes in tend to up their pledges later
I hope this does really well.

Looking good.
Do you think your street tiles would work for a 15mm game too? or would the roads be too wide?

Thanks everybody. I shall answer them in order.
Yes, Stop Gap is rather close to the margin, but you've hit the intention right on the head.
Why octagons?
They're more interesting than squares and they fit inside a square grid better than hexagons do. There are also a number of companies making hexagons already, so this can be a clearly different style.
Additionally, there is a design consideration. The first part of the MBBM that was designed was the column; we were looking into ways to hide the joints and edges as much as possible while allowing for multiple layers on the walls to add detail. At this stage we also determined that it was possible to give the column a detailed profile. Once the mechanics of the columns had been worked out, we found that the method we used works better on octagons than hexagons or squares.
15mm? The short answer is that it would be too wide, but that doesn't mean that it wouldn't work.
The long answer is: if the game scale is about half the size, then you could assume that everything is double-wide. This would mean that the sidewalks would be over-sized to handle more foot traffic when the city is not embattled and that the roads could be painted to show four lanes instead of two. The sidewalks would still seem tall.
In the end, the 15mm set just hasn't been designed yet and may be out of the scope of this project. That is, unless this goes so well that FireBucket Games needs to think up a new stretch goal, and then 15mm will be first on the list.

This looks pretty sweet. I'm not sure that I've got the free cash to drop $200 dollars on it atm.
I might jump in towards the end of the kick starter.

As I had stated in my previous thread, the T5: Tile City project by FireBucket Games is going live on KickStarter February 3, 2014, and guess what day it is: LAUNCH DAY!
We think it’s really amazing, but don’t take our word for it, see for yourself.
