Just noticed this due to another thread mentioning the site was down, promoting me to go and check, it might not be 'new' news, but I haven't seen it mentioned elsewhere as of time of writing.
That's up from £20, and I believe it was £10 less than a year ago.
Still, when your Empire is starting to crack at the foundations, every little helps!

If only that was truly a joke!
It's little things like this that do erode business though. One of the few things I still buy from GW are codexes, as the discount offered by most other retailers got eaten by shipping, so I'd pay the extra £1.17 or whatever would be the actual total cost difference to order it direct from GW and get it reliably quickly.
No point in that now, a codex only will now be £33 with UK shipping, I won't pay extra when the only benefit is the off chance it might turn up a day earlier.

One of the reasons for this may be the additional costs involved in having to use a (relatively) expensive courier to do their deliveries every time somebody orders more than 4 pots of paint (it will also help cross subsidise courier shipping for those pain only orders) EDIT: For those that missed the news earlier in the year the UK Royal Mail (and any couriers that use their services) will no longer accept more than 4 pots of paint so there is a limited number of firms that will take them

I'm not too familiar with the construction of webstore back ends, but surely applying different rules to anything in the relevant product category with regard to P+P and a notice of exemption would have been relatively simple to implement?
Wouldn't save/make as much cash of course...
You got lucky!

Altho I'm fine with examples of GW price-gouging, it's also worth pointing out that small parcel prices have shot up in the last 12 months. Depending on the dimensions, some costs have more or less doubled.

I do appreciate that postage costs have increased recently, but the threshold seems to be floating up, but the cost for P+P for non-qualifying orders, if it hasn't remained flat, certainly hasn't gone up much.
So they're trying to force a higher spend per customer by bumping up the free shipping threshold, but don't seem to be under pressure to recoup costs on the smaller orders to the same degree?

I suspect this is more a way to nudge people into using their hobby centre pick-up service. The courier my company uses charges less than a fiver per box for UK next-day delivery (up to 32kg, or over 150 length) and i'm pretty sure GW could negotiate an even better rate due to how much business they'd put their way.
of course, £40 is not a lot of product under their current pricing. They may have HAD to raise the price so they weren't sending out everything free

It's $80 for Canada for free shipping, which is amusing.
They already charge an extra 10-20% on everything, and you have to spend more in total to get free shipping on a product which is effectively tarriff-exempt. I think I'll stick to not buying from GW direct.

I used to play at a GW and I still have to use the website for some of the old metal models... which I just remembered are no longer there.
Yep, no more money straight to GW for me.

It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that. |

I agree with this comment. If you look at a lot of uk retailers then free shipping normally kicks in at £50. So fir once GW are cheaper than other stores, LEGO, Toys R us, Argos etc.....
On the other hand maybe it's because so many people gave cancelled their white dwarf subscription that they need to levy the charge.
I personally always get my stuff shipped to store and buy it from the I store order point anyway so that the store gets the money. I game there too so feel it only right that I pay 10% more to support them.

You're missing the point,
This isn't "let's bash GW for having free shipping at £40"
Its "GW offered free shipping at £10 barely a year ago"
Now, postage has gone up in price in that time, but the fact that their charged P+P for orders that don't qualify has barely changed in the same time period, suggests other agendas are at work.

I agree this should be the focus of the topic, but on a similar note look at Reaper.
Their free shipping used to be $25, now it's $35. Not a big increase but a little jump none the less.
In Canada the price for GW products to order them is so high that it is cheaper for us to order from a US site and pay the international shipping fees. For example I just ordered a box of warlocks from Bitzbarn for ~$30 (after shipping and currency exchange). Knowing this, why would I order from GW directly?

Given that they slap a £60 (or higher) "shipping fee" for even a single paint pot if you try to order overseas, I doubt that their shipping costs are actually there to cover shipping alone.

Nice to know about this. It is a pretty hefty jump, albeit from a fairly low base on the UK figure considering how much their products cost.
Thankfully ordered everything I need for now besides consumables though, and don't mind popping into the store for them every so often. Would imagine the next time I bother to order anything it'll be considerably more than £40 combined.

Yeh, as far as I remember it went up in April 2013, so I'm guessing someone's looked at the outgoings because of the recent financial update and changed it.
That said, as far as I'm aware GW ship stock for free to bricks and mortar stores across the world, that won't be cheap, and they won't be making much money from selling 5 pots of paint either.
Royal Mail's changers meant that International shipping fees have rocketed. I used to sell a fair to the US via eBay and I've had to stop. Stuff that used to cost me £3 or so to post ended up costing £8 per item, and that's ridiculous.
so maybe it genuinely is a legitimate reason GW has changed this
