It just seems like a lot to me. probably because my only other broods are 90 points max for 12. Its 8 genestealers with Scything talons and poision glands. Did I calculate something wrong?

Scything Talons are a complete waste of points for genestealers. You're much better off using those points to buy extra naked genestealers.

Genestealers are best without upgrades. Toss 'em in there naked with twice as many models for the same price and you'll do better.

Looks correct For expensive models like 'Stealers one upgrade to a customer is the best way to go...IMHO So choose one.

I am of two minds myself, I use Stealers with Toxic , but like the extra attack so am building a unit of 8 to try out... I plan to run two broods, one with Toxin and one with Scything, and see what falls out.....

Its very simple, if you only take one of them and you are very good at rolling high numbers talons are better because you have a higher potential maximum wounds.

If you roll strictly average dice results toxin is better because you will convert missed wounds to wounds with the reroll.

And, re-rolls can generate more Rending wounds.

I have a friend who loves his genesteaers, and he pretty much views them as "brood lord delivery mechanisms". I think he buys the re-roll upgrade for them, then runs squads of ~8 with a brood lord (as in lots of squads, like his entire troops section full). Usually the brood lord is the only thing left once they get in charge range...but that's usually enough. I once saw a brood lord kill an ork warboss on a bike in a challenge. That was a thing that transpired.
