The same amount of throughput killing for most Anti Tank (barring land raiders) as a triple las pred.

Vs light tanks sure but vs medium to heavy tanks the tri las is better

If you just want a pure tank-killing machine, tri-las is your pred.

Now I’m a big fan of the auto/las. It’s my favorite loadout. Some of that is nostalgia from 5th edition, and the crazy pricing of the TLLC turret. Overall, it’s flexible, point efficient, and get the job done 90% of the time. When the TLLC was 45 points, I’d advocate scraping up another 5 and just putting a MM attack bike on the table. But points have changed in the new codex, and both turret options are viable these days.

There are times you just want to maximize the amount of coherent light you are shining downrange.

You will not always be able to get both sponsons to bear on your target. Against hard targets (AV13-14) the AC in the turret is not going to do much, and a single LC can miss, or flub the pen roll, or grant a cover save, etc. If you have the TLLC up top, the odds of getting two hits in goes up dramatically. And landing two hits makes getting a kill a lot more reliable.

The only time the AC is better is shooting light armor or high T targets with a 4+ armor save. Or if you are shy points. When I put a list together, cracking transports is the primary job of the pred; I prefer melta for hard targets. Not that I don’t pump lascannon bursts into land raiders or leman russes from time to time, but I prefer not to. If I’m shooting at anything AV13 or above, I assume the autocannon will do nothing. Just because you can glance a HP off of AV 13 does not mean that it’s likely.

Unless you are assuming hits, your math is wrong.

In terms of the ratio of killing power / point cost, they are both very close (sitting down and crunching out the mathhammer will bear this out). The AC predator is substantially better against AV11 and lower, is somewhat worse against AV13, and significantly worse against MEQ troops.

The kicker for me is that the cheaper AC predator has the same durability for a 20% discount over the tri-las predator. Just existing as a cheap fire magnet that can soak up S7 and S8 fire with relative impunity has some value.

Obviously so, since the BS wouldn't change.

But they have a different amounts of shots, which affects the probabilities.

There are some problems with that statement. This is coming from someone who can field a lot of them, too.

As shown by the numbers, sure, lasboat preds are slightly more effective against heavy armor but still not very effective at all. As a CSM player I pretty much have no long range anti-AV13 so I make my list accordingly and try to find ways to get melta near AV13 quickly.

The twin-linked lascannon is never worth it.

I find lascannons nice at taking out one of multiple vindicators at range so face fewer pie plates when trying to get into melta range.
