Been struggling to find an answer for this, when rolling for penetration against a vehicle, using a weapon with rending, do you get to re-roll the first d6 and not the d3, or both?

I am on the both side as per the rending rule, the d3 is described as adding to the first d6, thus making it part of the penetration roll and therefore able to be rerolled. But where another question comes in, if you roll a 6 to begin with, can you then re-roll just the d3?

I would assume if the rending failed why it would get a free rend without rerolling a 6.

I don't quite understand this, but maybe my language wasn't clear. What I mean I will list in scenarios.

6 S6 shots fired at AV 13 all with rending:
-1 6 is rolled, 5 are not 6's

-for the one 6 that was rolled, can you reroll JUST the D3? Is the D3 considered part of the initial D6, which would mean the D6 then has to get rerolled (which would mean, unless you roll another 6, the D3 reroll would be irrelevant)

-for the other five, its clear you can reroll all 5 to attempt to get a 6, if you get a 6 and then roll a D3 not to your liking, can you reroll the D3?

Hmm sorry i guess i wrote that funny.

From what i can tell, the d3 is added to the initial dice which makes the whole thing 1 attempt meaning if you reroll a failed or glance you would have to reroll everything. meaning you would need to reroll the 6 to rend.

I dunno. Gonna have to look at exactly how these are worded. Very curious myself on this one.

the d6 of 6 and the d3 is your armor penetration roll. so if you choose to reroll you'd have to reroll the d6 first then if you get another 6 you can roll the d3 on top of it.

This feels right. On any D6 that aren't 6s, you may re-roll those, and results of 6 can then have a D3 added to them. On an initial D6 that is a 6, you then roll a D3: if you don't like the result, you re-roll the D6, rolling a D3 if you again get a 6 on the D6.

Eight tank-hunting psycannon shots go at a Land Raider. I roll 1, 2, 2, 4, 4, 5, 6, 6. I roll 2D3 for the 6s I got and get a 1 and a 3, one glance and one pen. I keep the pen and try again on the glance (for some crazy reason). I will thus re-roll 7D6, hoping for some more sixes.
