Subject: Genestealer cult counts as using Grey Knights & Inquisition.

I have been kicking around the idea of using Grey Knights and Inquisition codices to build a competitive Genestealer cult list. I want to avoid terminators and massed power armor. I am thinking death cult assassins as Genestealers, zealots, henchmen, etc I want to avoid Land raiders as they feel to big & important to have been stolen by the cult. I have a huge amount of RT / 2nd ed Hybrids and Necromunda gangs to build the list with.
Anyone got suggestions?

Interesting, I've toyed with the idea of "counts as" Chaos; Cultists, Renegade IG, Chosen/Possesed as Hybrids, and a Hybrid Magus as Chaos sorc.....add in actual Gene Stealers as a Elites and it just might work...
Late entry; And of Course the Heavy slot would be an "Issue". IG, or Big Bugs...?

Heavy could come from codex IG as that would fit the fluff. Or I could use carnifexes as dreadnaught stand ins.

I own a lot of Big Bugs, so that is, where I'd want to go....But the fluff says Genestealer cults can only exist away from the Hive. So I guess you could have "Local monsters that are actually Tyranid in origin". But it's likely "better" to use IG. Leman Russ make nice Dakkafex equivs I suppose
I do agree that Carnifexen would make boss "counts as Helbrutes"
Late entry: You could also use Genestealers to "count as" CSM, with CCW, No Bolter (a wash points wise) then they are elite Troops, instead of just plain "Elite"

I'm playing my stealer cult with the Tyranid rules. It's fun!
Gangers (necromunda models) and civilians (frateris militia models) = termagants. Heavy weapons = devourer upgrades. Incidentally, units that are 30 strong with 8-10 devourers do plenty of damage to most things with a toughness-score.
Magus and the hooded acolytes models = zoanthropes.
A Rhino, I'm going to paint it in arbiter-colours and then obviously decorated with stealer symbols in slobby purple. On top I put the patriarch on a throne. = Tervigon
Stealers = stealers (duh...)
Hybrids with heavy weapons are used as devourer gaunts. Those with melee weapons gets to lead hormagaunt units built from models that look "light" and have melee weapons, I'm planning to put a few on scout-bikes to make raveners.
A sentinel, modded to have extra shooty bits and painted in power-lifter yellow = dakkafex. (I need to make more of these, planning to use a SoB pentient engine as a basis for the next one)
I paint plenty of my models in "workers blue" so the power lifter fits.
I'm currently building a larger version of the "repurposed power lifter", based on the Grey Knights Dread-knight. Without the armor plats attached, the legs looks very much like a working machine. I'll prob build arms from sentinel-legs. Then add a lot of guns and wings to make a flying hive tyrant.
(Also, the new bullgryns looks like they can make nice tyranid warriors...)
All in all, it is not a super competitive army, but it garners me much admiration :-) I'll play a couple of games this weekend, wish I had more MCs ready... Automatically Appended Next Post: And I like your original idea. I've toyed around with using the Grey Knights codex. Coteaz is key here. He makes henchmen into rather good troop choices that can easily be represented by gangers and stealers. That way stealers can count as death cult assassins (that are way more worth their points and can have a transport...) and other henchmen/gangers can do some shooting.
You are going to want to have something with a bit more staying power though, so go for some allies or make up excellent excuses to have power armor models :-)

DCA rules fit the idea of stealers (esp old edition stealers) really well!
Acolytes as cultists.
Inquisitors as magos/patriarchs
Flagellants as half breeds.
Hammerhand as adrenal glands.
Rhions/chimeras/valkaries/servitors all requisitioned by the cult.
Ordo xenos wepons as patriarchs poisioned attacks and power armour as his hardened carpace.
Could work very well!
