Subject: Chaos Marines VS Tyranids

Pulsating Possessed Chaos Marine
|
So, I battled some nids today, it was a massacre to say the least. Here's my list (I would add the Tyranid list but I've already forgot 80% of it, as they are to numerous to remember)
2530 point game
Abaddon-265
Kharn-160
Chaos Sorceror Thoron (Nurgle, Pyromancer)-210
Upgrades: Master level 3, Gift of Mutation, Murder Sword, Mark of Nurgle.
Chaos Squad Felix (10)-205
Upgrades: Power fist and Gift of Mutation (Champion Felix), 2 flamers, combat blades.
Dedicated Transport, Rhino-55
Upgrades: Daemonic possession, Dozer blade.
Chaos Squad Zoran (10)-230
Upgrades: Power sword, plasma pistol and Gift of Mutation (Champion Zoran), 2 plasma guns, combat blades.
Chaos Squad Andrathrax (15)-270
Upgrades: Power Sword and Gift of Mutation (Champion Andrathrax), 2 melta guns, combat blades.
Berzerker Squad Kaldus (20)-430
Upgrades: Powerfist and Gift of Mutation (Champion Kaldus), Icon of Wrath
Berzerker Squad Bulle (14)-306
Upgrades: Plasma Pistol and Gift of Mutation (Champion Bulle),
Possessed Squad Nero (13)-377
Upgrades: Gift of Mutation (Champion Nero), Mark of Khorne
Forge Fiend-200
Upgrades: 3 ecto plasma cannons.
Now, this battle couldn't have gone better. Abaddon; in all his greatness killed 900 points worth of nids. He was a wrecking ball. He killed a winged Tyrant with a heavy venom cannon, a Tyrant with Lashwip/Bonesword and heavy venom cannon, the Red Terror, Tyranid Warrior Prime with lashwip/bonesword, 2 Venomthropes, a warrior, a broodlord and a couple genestealers. I mean, he was my ultimate champion. He just walked around the board challenging any tyranid character in sight and defeating it, albeit he was on his last wound at the end of the game. Berzerkers are the perfect fighters against tyranids cuz they can withstand some armours. Not too many though obviously. They were wiped at the end if the game but not before making up their points. My regular chaos marines with bolters wiped out all the hormagaunts and termagaunts (please dont ask me to give you a direct number, too bloody many of them). Forgie took out 15 genestealers and 4 raveners. I lost almost half my army, but i won 9 to 0. It was emperors will and i captured both objectives, first blood, slay the warlord and linebreaker. It was decisive indeed.

The problem is that there is nothing to garner here info wise...did Abbadon just get charged/assault each turn? All Ive gathered is things died and the game ended.

I forgot to add some stuff in. I got to carried away. What I was getting to was that the Tyranids don't seem to be as elite as they use to be. I've never lost yet to Tyranids in 6th edition. Yet I lose half my games to SM's. Comes to show how shooty this game is. Another point is people keep stomping abaddon. I made a post a while ago on B&C and apparently abaddon is to expensive, but look what he's capable of. Hes perfect for taking on all the enemy characters and reliably killing all of them, leaviing the rest of your force to systematically destroy unit after unit. You dont even need to get fancy with cultists and heldrakes, just get abaddon with an army of regular chaos marines with bolters. Forge fiends are great too.

Judging by the limited information you have provided, your opponent picked some horrible options. Flyrants with twin linked devourers are widely the standard for even friendly tyranids lists. We don't have characters, so you can't challenge. The red terror doesn't exist anymore, not a thing. Raveners suck.
Sounds like your opponent didn't know the rules, and was playing an old edition. The Hive Tyrant is a character. So is the Prime.
The Red Terror is not only an option for Raveners, but is also a character.
Raveners actually don't suck. If you have a good number they can rend things into the ground and take a good amount of wounds if they're in cover.
I will say that Devourers should always be the standard however.

Just saying. This edition has made things a bit hard for nid players. I'll tell you, overwatch is an absolute killer for gaunts and stealers. Pack a chaos army with flamers (wall of death) its a nightmare. As a SM player, get ultramarines or salamanders. Salamanders reroll flamer wounds while rerolling failed armour saves to flame. Ultramarines with Combat doctrine (we all know how that goes. Raveners are good, but that 5+ save is disgusting. They really shouldnt be that squishy but oh well.

All of the above is correct. Thanks jifel for saving me the trouble.
