Can't find the existing Kabuki Models thread, but the Legio Praetoriana (not-Custodes) are now up for pre-order. Slightly disappointed the price has gone up from listed as 18 euro for 4 to 40 euro for 5 (or 70 for 10), but they're still awesome-looking models:

I'm surprised that nobody's posted about these sooner. They've been showing them off on their Facebook page for the last couple weeks. They do indeed look good. I like them a lot more than the Not-Custodes that Scibor put out. I just wish they were a bit cheaper.

I usually love everything Kabuki puts out, but something about these guys just doesn't look right. I can't quite put my finger on it but I think it's something to do with the legs.

It may just be the picture. I would like to see more pictures showing close ups and different angles.

3 or 4 years ago I would have been all over these. Too bad Black Library pulled a Shelley Long and ruined the Heresy.

@bobotheinquisitor not quite sure what the Shelley long reference is?

These are probably the best 3rd party versions available, I just can't help think the FW versions won't be far off and probably better. Makes it difficult to take a punt on these ones.

Scibor makes some good ones, too, and they don't cost much more than these from Kabuki.

I agree, though, that the Forgeworld versions we'll eventually see (at least a year away, though, I'm guessing) will probably knock it out of the park.

Haven't read the books, what did they do to ruin it?

She was an up-and-coming actress in the 80's who overvalued her brand, make exorbitant demands, and ragequit when she wasn't treated like a premium product. Then everyone discovered that they liked Kirstie Alley better, and that put the last nail in the coffin of Shelley Long's career. It reminds me of the rise and fall of Black Library and how I just can't care about Custodes or Thunder Warriors or Pre-Heresy anythings anymore. BL killed their brand for me before Kabuki could cash in on it.

Haven't read the books

Exactly.

They dragged out the series, pumped it full of filler to stretch it out and then jacked up the prices by making every other HH story a hardback exclusive novella. The series went from consistent NYT bestsellers to books that are only notable for how much they cost the few poor saps who still buy them.

Ouch. That's the genius of GW, I guess. Finding ways to stop making money in new and innovative ways.

Yes I think I prefer the Scibor miniatures, although these are very nice also.

I wonder what it is with the price of Polish-produced miniatures, and why it tends to be at the top end of the scale? Not just Kabuki, but some of the other companies (MaS etc. although Maxmini aren't too bad). I suppose these might be priced comparatively to GW stuff as they know people will pay that much for them, but the pricing tends to extend to terrain and other non-GW related lines.

Just a guess, but maybe it's the fact that Scibor/Kabuki/Maxmini/Kromlech all use resin might have something to do with it. Also, they tend to be pretty small operations, so need to keep prices up to pay tax/costs and still make a profit to keep them in business.
