40k I have only played around 5 games all against my friend who runs tau. I am hoping that with this list I can cross the board quickly keeping his troops under fire during my whole footslog. Honestly thinking of starting with everything on the board especially if I go first simply because when I deep striked the raveners one of the last times I played they got murdered before I got to use them at all.

That's my list I'm planning on running next week and am hoping for some success against a tau player. I only have a limited budget but here is what else I have gotten for my tyranids in the form of other models that I actually own. So any changes that would be suggested if it came from this list would be great. Or honestly and suggestions will be thought of as long as you can back it up with some strategy. I was also thinking of getting some genestealers because of my lack of synapse in this list. Also I understand that taking only one tervigon can sometimes be frowned upon

Some of this is "just me", and includes units you don't own. (So think of them as suggested future purchases

) I'd toss the Hive Guard, and buy 3 Zoeys. (two Broods, 1 of x2, 1 solo) It gives you some fairly durable Synapse, and two rolls on the Powers of the Hive Mind! Table.
I'd drop the Toxic sacs off the Hormies and spend on more Troops. I'd buy a 30x brood of Termigants, and turn the Tervigon into a Troops choice. That jumps your Troops to a respectable 4 slots, with the ability to spawn more in game.
If you want to Deepstrike the Raveners, they should be in a big Brood, spreading them out lets them get defeated in detail (as you have found out

)
If you can find points a second Carnifex would be a good addition. My favorite for small games is a Tyranofex. Against Tau, it should be a giant bullet magnet. That way the rest of your army can manuver for the kill
You are also fatally short on Synapse. Zoeys will help, and you might want to look at Warriors as well. They are not well liked, but I see them as valued additions to the team. Good luck!
