I was reading through the 'which army do you hate to play against' thread created by Alphabet, and there was just so much gosh darn negativity! So, tell me Dakka, which army do you enjoy playing against the most?

Mine is Orks, because when Orks play other Orks, there is just so much unpredictable Orkyness that you love every minute of it

Orks, so many things deployed its like fighting rorkes drifft at times, + some of the things that fail are funny, first blood to failed rocket pack :-)

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

An army that is well formed in a sense of heavy narrative and fluffiness, which bears tons of possibilities and loads of fun.

So, in that sense, I love to play against almost any army... except Tau. They don't count, they're the tournament army, and I can't get any fun out of them by playing against them... and not even playing WITH them.

A month back, I had this magnificient match against an Ork player, versus my Space Marines. We experienced a campaign from my Chapter's fluff where it gets its arse handed over on a silver platter by Orks (a blight in our history!).
Basically, he was allowed to use ANYTHING he had, including Escalation stuff, so I had a fight of my life against a throng of greenskin tides, including a Stompa and a Stormblade (a list worth many thousand points).
I had a list of around 2500 points, maximum amount of tacticals, devastators, a Land Raider, scouts, and vindicators, holding the line as long as possible.
Orks gained victory points for each 12" moved with superheavies, and regained completely lost units/squads as reserves that automatically enter the field in the next turn. I gained victory points for completely annihilating squads/units and 1 VP per hull point damage caused to the enemy superheavies.

The match was epic, it had everything, including the coolest and biggest terrain of the gaming store. It attracted a little audience over time, that looked in awe what my Astartes were experiencing; a bad day.

It ended up as I wished; the Orks rolled over like there was no tomorrow. He won, by the fluff, and I won... technically (by points). I managed to take his Stormblade out with lascannon fire, and a few blobs of boyz before getting hammered by StrD big blast concentration.

I think it would be hard to argue for any other army being more fun to play against than orks. Orks are by far the most fun army to play against because they are the "fun" army. Most ork players embrace this and hence forth ork players seem to be the ones who are more about having a fun game than winning the game. It is not for lack of trying to win orks always expect to win!

Stikk bommas are special among ork society for one reason - They know when you pull the pin out of a stikk bomb you throw the bomb not the pin!

Orks of course ! I really, really enjoy playing against them. Not to mention most ork players tend to be nicer and less über-competitive than, say... Tay players.

I also enjoy playing against SoB. Seeing good ol' metal minis is always nice, and they are tactically interesting force.

Necrons. They keep getting back up, so I can shoot them again and again!

Alternatively I do love playing against an ork mob, because it fairly accurately represents what happens when you try to charge headfirst into a wall of superior firepower.

Any army, really. I usually don't play deathstar or gimmick oriented lists, so I actively seek out players playing stuff like Seer Councils, Beastpacks, Wraithspam, Screamer Star, etc.

I find it really fun to be the underdog and constantly learn whatever new trick I need to win and learn more for next time!

Weirdly enough, Tau. It was the first army I ever played against, and I'll always build my army with a little bit of bias towards killing them.

My favorite has to be Orks. Like the OP, I play orks as well and I can attest to his assertion that Orks vs Orks is a matchup with lots of potential for crazy. Last game I had versus another heavily mechanized ork army degenerated into a hilarious demolition derby in which we almost end up tabling each other. Onlookers flocked to our table, and lots of laughs were had.

Second best? Imperial... oh, ok. Astra Militarum: We both have scores of guys, guns, transports and Av14, but our playstyles can't be more different. Orks vs Guard produces very even matches where one must fight the temptation of both attempting to crush the other with sheer brute force and castling in your deployment zone: Gunlines don't tend to hold for long under Ork assaults and IG ordnance. These battles tend to be tense knifefights fought by immense armies. I just love them.

Wow, that's probably one of the rudest things I've ever seen someone say on this forum (minus that one time where I saw someone spewing blatant racism). My army "doesn't count"? Are you serious?

The funny thing is I could sub in my Tau army for your Space Marines in that scenario you described and probably have just as much fun as you did. Not only that but it would be a lot easier to "forge a narrative" since I'm partial to the Farsight Enclaves and he already has a rather long history fighting Orks. But no, my "tournament army" doesn't count, you can never have a sense of narrative or "fluffiness" when playing with/against Tau.

If I'm playing a non-MEQ army? Dark Eldar. They're fast and killy but oh-so-squishy. That said I almost never beat them when playing my CSM's.

Also, Orks. Orks are always fun to play against. Even if you lose you usually kill so much stuff you don't care

I like playing against well-painted, non-bike marines.

For some reason it's really fun to see a skilled player use them the right way as you can get the feeling that "that's how they'd roll if they were real, that's the Codex Astartes speaking through his tactics right there!" if you know what I mean.

That and horde Tyranids. Feels fluffy!

Tbh my favourite is imperial guard and csm. Imperial guard on marine warfare is just so much fun and when chaos and loyalists butt heads like a pair of angry bulls it's just too much fun. Guys are getting mauled in cc, tanks are blowing up, pieplates are flying. And as long as your on even ground it's a laugh riot the whole way through.

One of my fav moments I've had was a low point derp match with a blob guard army. They dakkad my assault marines bubble wrapping my hq and then my hq entered combat and won. I watched as an entire blob guard ran screaming for their lives from a chaplain like they had seen a ghost. Was very lulz
