Who the heck is gonna call 'em with the new name? It's IG for most of the players.

The GW literally renamed one of their iconic armies of the 40K a "space military", and they expect us to call it like that?
I'm sorry, but I can't imagine a guy who says it out loud with a serious tone.

The also named their most iconic and best selling army "Star-Obtainers"

High Gothic / Faux Latin is pretty dumb like that.

A Guardsman is a Guardsman no matter what it says on the codex.

You mean the Adeptus Astartes? Adeptus means "obtained" in the sense of obtained some skill or ability... so the Adeptus part isn't that stupid.

"Astartes" I don't think means anything? It's just a made up word through and through. Googling turns up a Greek god connected to fertility, sexuality and war.

Good point. I always interpreted it to be Faux-Latin for stars / space, but a Mesopotamian Goddess of War works as well.

Astartes isn't a Greek goddess though; never heard of her. Turns out she's the Greek name for Ishtar.

So...it really means "Skilled Babylonian Goddesses of War"

Or WarBabbies for short.

IG, Iggies, and Guard. It will never change.

Do you think the newer players will call it AM, or do you think they'll refer to it as IG to fit in?

Actually, he means Astarte, the Syrian and Babylonian Goddess of Love and Fertility. Only later Egypt adopted the cult and added the war aspect.
So Space Marines are the skilled Sex Goddesses

Ha!! There hasnt been a new player in my area for about 5 years. Yet If they do start showing up they will probably call them Astra whatever until we correct them.
